Red Sox have signed Yairo Munoz, but it's not your run-of-the-mill minor-league signing. Lots of unanswered questions about his bizarre departure from Cardinals camp.

Dude walked out on Cards during ST.

I don't know anything about the guy or the situation, but it doesn't sound like the kind of player we want on our team.

Reminds me of when Bartolo Colon disappeared on us.

This team had Urbina, Canseco and many other aholes.

Plays right into us re-signing Mookie, which is what I've been expecting all along

If I'm not mistaken, if there is no season, the luxury tax penalty will not reset for the Sox.

If they signed Mookie, they would likely have a hard time resetting for a few years.

Depends. We lose some salary.

There will be a season.

I already threw out the Mookie poster I had in my dorm room, and I don't want to also throw out my Mookie t-shirt. I'm a little biased. I'll admit it

I still don't think the Sox are going to throw that much money at Mookie while trying to reset.

We have big pitching needs. BIG.

From a fan standpoint, I think most of us love Mookie and would love to have seen him play his entire career with the Red Sox.

From a business standpoint, re-signing him would be a huge mistake, IMO.

I am wondering what effect there would be on the market for free agents if the season is canceled. Owners would lose a lot of money. Free agents would be a year older and a year removed from baseball. It seems that their market would go down, though who knows?

I can't see JD opting out.

It depends.

His salary does drop by about $4mill after this season. If they play actual baseball and he still has it, he’s walking away from 2 years and $38.7 mill. He might be able to top that in free agency...

I don't disagree with that.

I was thinking more in terms of what would happen if there is no season at all. Players won't have the chance to earn their next contracts.

I agree. Almost certainly signing Mookie would require a very long term contract at big bucks. Lets hope we have learned a lesson and try walking a diffrerent path to resurgence.

By the way, the long term saga of my neice's son-in-law ended well. After 12 days on a ventilator he was removed and on Easter Sunday he was able to talk to his wife and children. He is still weak but was discharged to the rehab unit. The Doctors and nurses lined up to applaud his long fight as he was moved to rehab. Good things do happen.

Well then even if we don’t bring back Mookie, we should send the Dodgers a Thank You note...

That is good news, and great steps toward a recovery.

As for the next free agency class, I just don't think the MLB biz will recover from whatever season is played, if any, to go back to the way things were. Kajillion dollar long-term sports contracts could soon join wedding receptions in banquet halls and cruise vacations in the ranks of nostalgia...

... especially, with no definitive treatments nor vaccine threatening the 2021 season. Hate to say it, but the timetables that scientists and medical experts are citing right now put next year in doubt -- when we should all be prepared for more partial openings and intermittent shutdowns in sports seasons, school years, etc. etc.

I've been wondering about the progress of your niece's son-in-law, so I'm glad you gave us an update, but more importantly, I'm glad to hear that he is recovering well. That's terrific news to have him off the ventilator, finally! Hopefully, he will get to go home soon. And yes, amidst all the bad news that we've been surrounded with, there are many good things happening as well. :)

We should. I kind of feel bad for the Dodgers. LOL

I am thinking that Mookie is not going to get the type of contract that he was looking for.

Perhaps he even goes for a 1 year deal for 2021, then looks for that mega contract after next year.

I've been wondering what had happened, but was too worried to ask. Delighted for you and the family. Wonderful news. :)

Yeah agreed, Kimmi. I think Mookie (and all free agents) will be looking at a depressed market next year.

It will make for interesting viewing.

True. We are in unfamiliar waters, no doubt.

Hard to know the lasting effect on the economy itself.

That seems like it would be the case, but who knows what will happen? Interesting times ahead, indeed.

How are you doing?

I hope a Mookie isn’t too mad at his mom for telling him to walk away from $200 million...
