MLB found that Cora had no knowledge of any 2018 wrong doing. Why should he get more punishment than Hinch or Luhnow?

MLB's findings are so weak. Watkins vehemently denied doing any in game sign stealing. A few players said they suspected or had indications that the revised signals came from in game video. That is not even good circumstantial evidence! Wouldn't even rise to the level of probable cause in court and that is a low standard of evidentiary proof. Losing a 2020 second round pick is too much. They basically got punished for the 2017 Apple watch incident and because fans and players were upset by Houston's light punishment.

The source is a player on the 2018 team, so my bet is he did it. Especially since the sources for the Astros were players on the team too.

 

The other confounding issue for the Red Sox is they were fined and warned in 2017 about using electronic devices in the dugout. As a repeat offender, the punishment could be pretty extreme.

Listen, it is entirely legal for the runner on second to figure this out on his own and convey it to batters by a lean or hand gesture. That has been part of the game for a century. But getting the sign sequence spoon fed to you at second by digital means is expressly prohibited. The sox didn't do it as blatantly as the Astros did. It is pretty easy to hear the bangs on the garbage can prior to breaking balls on replay. This is damning evidence especially when you consider the players admitting it. Now, the evidence won't be as easily picked through. This will rely on testimony and confession, although Cora's involvement in Houston will be taken into consideration and the fact that the sox were warned in 2017 will be considered as well. The punishment for the sox should actually be worse than what the Astros get.
