Holy smoke, is this guy patient.

It's something I'm greatly enjoying. I think it's obvious Dodgers and Padres want Betts. Sweat them out.

As I had hoped, if this had to happen, Bloom is going to guarantee a haul. Reports are starting to include names that some people laughed at all winter "for just one year" of Mookie Betts.

They're only rumors -- even coming from the media -- but if Bloom was going to just do a salary dump, Mookie would've been gone already.

A bidding war has upped the ante. Good for us.

I was one who said "just one year," and there is no way we get the 3 guys you and others mentioned. Maybe one of the 3 and a side piece or two, but some of the outlandish suggestions remain just as outlandish.

If the Red Sox are shopping Mookie Betts, its's obvious the Sox want to slip under the luxury tax threshold. Perhaps the Dodgers and Padres are "sweating out" the Red Sox.

And vice versa. It's the nature of negotiations.

I suspect offers have been exchanged since November. Chaim Bloom apparently has been patient as the offers have gotten better, worse or stayed the same. We outsiders probably will never know.

Why do you continually post that we don't know what's going on behind the scenes when we discuss things? Is it some vein attempt to feel superior? Mostly everyone knows we don't have all the information at hand, but this is a discussion board, where people pass the time by playing out scenarios and discussing possibilities. We do so knowing we don't have access to information the GM's that run our clubs do. And so we make guesses and summations, based on reports and assumptions, knowing it has no effect on anything other than the discussion at hand.

It's a strange way to pass the time I grant you, but far less odd than consistently going to a forum to tell people they don't know enough when discussing fantasy propositions.

I don't know about tthat. It worked fine for Socrates (well, maybe until tthe end.)

I agree. Whether he intends it or not, Harmony tends to come across that way.

Socrates speculated about Red Sox trades?

It is if you know that you know nothing.

You don't know what you don't know. Sometimes you don't know what you do know. And other times you only know it when you see it.

I used know a guy named Socrates who owned a pizzeria back in my home town in Massachusetts who was a big Sox fan.

I bet he wouldn't have pulled that same s*** Swilhart's Ghost did yesterday.

If we know nothing, isn't that at least something?

No.

But if you know that you know nothing, then it is something...

Or maybe he did, and that would explain the whole hemlock episode.

"So, Soc, you're saying the deal is done based on some speculative tweets from fourth party sources? Well, then, I propose a toast."

I too enjoy passing time by commenting on trade proposals but I humbly acknowledge that I have no insider information.

I agree...I think if we were going to get ripped off here, it would have happened before now. Bloom is clearly not inclined to give Betts away and seems to be putting the screws to the Dodgers and Padres.

Eventually someone is going to blink...I hope it isn't us, but if it is, I put the blame squarely on John Henry for not only forcing his new baseball ops chief to dump payroll, but torpedoing his leverage by announcing to the world ahead of time that he was going to do so (whatever walking back of that statement may have taken place afterwards).

For an exceptionally smart man, that felt like an exceptionally dumb thing to do.
