There is plenty of evidence that Chavis could be an excellent first baseman. Can he learn to wait?

(QAIT WAIT WAIT, QUICK QUICL QUICK) I believe that 390 ft home runs count the sane as he 450 footers do.

I finally traded Michael Chavis in my fantasy league and for the time being am stuck with Rougned Odor -- reportedly baseball's worst hitter* -- at second base as I await the returns of Jose Altuve and Dee Gordon from the injured list.

I look forward to following Chavis and Odor in the upcoming four-games series between the Red Sox and Texas Rangers.

The worst stst on the man's sheet is 19 WALKS and 63 K's. I am in Ft Myers, and watch the Sox-Rays games on Fox south, Both announcers reeatedly commented on the overly long swings. He needs a tutor, not a notebook

Well said.

My guess is he has been working with numerous people as he rose up the farm chain, and this has always been his big issue.

I'm not sure it is an issue that can be solved, but it will be very hard for him to make it without improving on these numbers.

Many guys K too much, but they also walk a lot or bash more HRs than Chavis.

If you look at his career MiLB numbers, there hasn't been much of a change at all. 30.7 k rate in MiLB, 32.8 in MLB.

They knew who he was.

Exactly, and I'm sure this has been a big focus of his development over the years.

I doubt a ML coach or player is going to change him. He is what he is. Maybe he can improve the K rate a little and improve his BB% , BA or power, but he can't continue like he has over his last 47 PAs

22 Ks in 45 ABs

2 BBs

.146 BA

.191 OBP

.222 SLG

.414 OPS

Last 69 PAs:

31 Ks/ 4 BB (including 1 IBB)

.188/.246/.234/.481

47 and 69 PA sample sizes are not all that big, but how much longer do we stick with this?

Another 47?

Another 69?

With Holt, Nunez & Hernandez doing pretty well, of late, I'm not sure we go that long.

I'm hopeful he turns it around, soon, and he has gone 3 of his last 11 with a 2B and a BB, so maybe he's begun the adjustment, however he has 6 Ks in his last 12 PAs.

If MCHammer would just learn to bunt, all would be well. It would slow that bat down and compact the swing, lol

Chavis is exactly where he should be.

Started out hot, but lack of contact has lead to K's and drops in his BA, OB% and OPS%

Well, yes. Sort of the point...

Nope. There was no point, and no reason to post, other than to bait.

I was not happy with Chavis being called up as i am very much an anti PeD guy. when he was hitting those 450' bombs it was fun to watch. but when i think about it...that's what it felt like 1998 during the McGwire v Sosa HR race. now i feel icky.....

It was fun while is lasted, but he really needs to figure things out in the minors before they permanently scar him and his psyche.

I still have not been able to fully embrace Chavis. I have to give him credit for being better defensively than I thought he would be though.

He's a natural athlete, anda naural first baseman. He need to learn some of the nuances of playing first base. but that will come, and easily.

At the plate it's the same thing. Sometimes he waits too long, and some times he's too quick. But so what? They all have to learn. Anyone who can hook s ball, then have it straughten out after traveleing 39 ft, does not need to see 3A pitching.

We have the best L-R potential 3/4 spots that sgould blossom in another year or two into something special

His OPS is not bad, let him play. Nothing wrong with him.

Top notch pitching can make anyone look bad. He just has to gain more experience seeing this is his first season. He did use ped's to gain strength, but every young player deserves a second chance, and provided he keeps his nose clean I am all for him getting a long look in the majors.

Here's how selected sample sizes can make someone look bad or good.

Player A:

.626 in his last 62 PAs, including a 48 PA stretch of .453 hitting

.970 prior to May 20th

.638 after May 20th

.820 for 2019

Player B:

.350 in his first 62 PAs (same sample size as player A's most recent sample size)

.443 prior to May 20th

1.114 after May 20th

.688 for 2019

Its clear who you are talking about. When the pitchers find a hole it might take some guys longer to figure things out.
