Yankees starter Luis Severino is slated to undergo an MRI and further medical examination, manager Aaron Boone tells reporters including George A. King III of the New York Post (via Twitter). Severino has been on the injured list since the start of the season for inflammation in his rotator cuff.

Severino’s rehab was “stalled” over the past week, as Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News puts it (Twitter link), with Severino not yet feeling up to mound work. The lack of progress was evidently worrying enough that Dr. Christopher Ahmad — a noted surgeon and the Yankees’ head physician — will take a closer look.

Exactly. Ottavino gets beaten by an infield single. Sometimes that just happens. But to give up a game tying 2 run double to Robinson Chirinos is really bad when you’re a shutdown reliever like Britton. In the end, it’s just more of the same with us vs the Astros. We struggle to beat them, even when we get runs.

Dellin supposedly faced live batters yesterday. Hopefully he's close to a comeback. Britton sucked but what can ya do, even the best relievers give up runs occasionally. Unless this kind of outing becomes his norm, I expect him to be a force in the BP this year. Ottavino was good but was the victim of a couple of well placed groundballs. It's still a shame to lose a game like this against Verlander when we handed a lead to our "legendary" bullpen.

Yet it doesn’t excuse the fact that our starters handed a lead to our pen. Yesterday was a pen day with JL going 3, but after Tarpley and Cessa, we handed a 1 run lead to the pen in the 7th and blew it again. It’ll eventually even out, but this is garbage twice in a row

Yet lost every playoff game there in 2017

It’s the wild card game and it absolutely is a playoff game

No, it's not.

If the Sox wind up in the WC this year and lose, it doesn't count as the playoffs.

The Wild Card series should be at least a best of three. Its dumb that a 162 game season can come down to a 1 game playoff.

I absolutely agree. I’d make it a 3 game series with the first game being a home game in WC2 ballpark and games 2 and 3 being a DHer in WC1’s ballpark

interesting idea but i always feel like it is very very hard to sweep a doubleheader. this setup might actually favor WC2.

I've said it before, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous system.

The new Wild Card setup was another of Bud Selig's 'brainstorms' to generate more fan interest AKA more dollars.

It probably worked in those respects, but it's rinky-dink.

There absolutely was something wrong with the WC setup. What we found was home field advantage in baseball isn’t as big a deal as it is in football or basketball and the WC has almost an equal shot at making the WS compared to the division winners. I like what they do now, although a single game is too small to eliminate a playoff team, IMO. There has to be a bonus to winning your division. I’d rather see the wild card team have to win 2 to advance and then you’ve burned through their 2 or 3 starters for game 1 of the next series

it really should be best of 3. how about the league give WC1 the option - host game 1 and road for DHer or road game 1 and host DHer....

they would have 1 hour after the end of the final out of final game of season to declare.

ESPN could host "the decsion" ala king james...

There has to be a bonus to winning your division.

That's where I disagree. I see no reason why winning a crappy division should be rewarded any more than finishing second in a strong division. It's totally arbitrary and luck-driven.

thats a good point. the only way to make it fair is to have completely balanced schedule.

Hey, I’m okay with leveling the playing field, but if we do that, why have divisions? I’d be fine with top 4 make the playoffs. The entire reason why that will never happen is the rivalries. Yanks-Sox, Cubs-Cardinals, Dodgers-Giants will always bring in huge money. Decreasing those games will drop MLB’s profits, so it’ll never happen. In the interim, if winning your division matters, as it should even in a s*** division in this setup, then you have to have an incentive when you win it beyond an equal footing with a club who didn’t win theirs

Glad to get out of Houston. Altuve ate our lunch. They pretty much outclassed us in all facets of the game, but hopefully we'll be a little healthier next time we face off. Now we can get back to beating up (or squeaking by) s***** teams the rest of this month.

On a positive note, Joe Harvey looked pretty solid in his debut.
