lol. not bad.

but i mean if you have to go all the way back to the 20th century that is maybe...sorta...kind of a different thing than going all the way back to..... the past 3 seasons....

NYY have won 5 in the last 30/40 years. but your overall point has merit.

Incorrect. The Yanks have won 5 in both the last 30 and 40 years.

Not to mention last century started out pretty good for the sox too and we all know how that worked out..........

If John Henry starts dumping an entire foundation worth of players into NY to finance Arsenal football or auto racing or another trophy wife, your point might have some validity.

But if Frazee had been more into baseball and held on to Ruth, Mays, Pennock, Jones, Bush, etc. the Yankee fans would not be clinging to 27 rings anytime soon...

And if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle...........

Not to mention the Ruth era team only won 4 WS, so they would be "clinging" to 23, still more than 2X's the sox.......

Yes, I forgot 1996. My bad.

It doesn't change the trend.

Besides, after this year, it's 5-5 over 40 years.

That's your opinion.

It will be hard to beat 108 games, but I think our team is as good or better than 2018's.

Eovaldi, Pearce, Thornburg, Sale, ERod, Brasier, Betts, Bogey, vaz and others for a full season.

That is why they play the games . We will find out soon enough . Right now it is hard for me to see how we are as good or better than last year .

Pedey back.

Devers due to bust out.

JBJ finding consistency.

Beni still on the upswing.

Yes, there are questions, but every teams has those.

Losing Kimbrel will be made up for by the above list, and DD will pick up a good RP'er mid year.

That is why they play the games . We will find out soon enough . Right now , I simply don't see how we are as good or better than last year . And I think that is a very pragmatic view .

Because in moonunit's "realistic" view, sox players only have upside..........

because of CK and Kelly?

sheesh. everyone but me and kimmi wanted kelly traded for a bag of balls or taken out back and shot last season. CK limped thru the postseason and if not for an unbelievable play by Beni may very well have been the goat (the bad goat, not the good goat) that cost us a parade.

erod is healthy. devers is slimmed down. we won the division by 8 games while coasting in september.

How about this system to compare teams season by season?

5 points for winning the World Series

4 points for winning the League Championship (lost the World Series)

3 points for winning the Division Series (lost the League Championship)

2 points for making it to the Division Series (but losing it) -OR- winning 100 games but not making the postseason at all

1 point for making it to the Wild Card game (but losing it) -OR- winning 95 games but not making the postseason at all

Not true.

I qualified my "optimistic" view.

I agreed, we may see declines from Betts, JD & Moreland.

I have agreed our pen is shaky and will likely need fixing in the summer.

Keep dreaming of the Yankees of old and their 27 rings. Me, I'm in the modern age.

Nah, I love the history and also look forward to the future. I certainly believe the Yanks will be challenging for a title for the foreseeable future......

Unless the Red Sox won those 4, which would give them 13. Keeping Hall of Famers Ruth and Pennock and the rest of that supporting staff does make that more possible.

In the meantime, your aunt can identify as your uncle...

I only kept it as possible.

And cut your Uncle Ruthie some slack. He means well, and he did give you that awesome chocolate bunny for Easter. Not the one filled with marshmallow; that one was from your weird Aunt Marvin. I’m talking about the Nestle Crunch one...

I've heard this one before and I must say, it's a classic LOL

I don't know how old you are, but I know I sure ain't gonna be around long enough to find out if this a real thing...

Since the topic at hand appears to be the pen, given the overall weakness of anybody but the top three teams in baseball, Red Sox, Yankees, Astros it is not entirely unreasonable that the Sox could well get through the regular season on what they have for a pen though I would recommend getting somebody with closing experience even if he is not great.

Once in the post season would it not be another case or could it not be another case of supplementing a relatively weak pen with a relatively strong rotation? I would question opinions like "the Sox proved everybody wrong about the strength of the their pen last year". Ehhhhh.....Not so much. But I do not see a good reason at this point to blow holes in what was a working formula last year save a guy that has actually closed in MLB for the regular season.

I'm still unsure as to why anyone would care about championships that occurred before you became a fan...

The unbridled enthusiasm is perfectly understandable considering the juggernaut the Sox were last season . But is it realistic ? The Sox lost their closer and also another high velocity arm from the bullpen. That is 128 innings and 44 saves to somehow make up . Next to nothing was done to compensate for these losses . Reason being , the owner has reached the limit of his willingness to spend on the team . And you really can't blame him for that . As far as expecting other players to improve on past performance , fine but that is something any team can say , and not something you can really count on . To me , although at least a wild card berth is almost a forgone conclusion, there is legitimate concern about winning the division again . And saying that we are better than last year is not based on solid ground. Vegas has now made the Yankees and Astros a slight favorite over the Sox . And let me remind you again that I am always the reasonably optimistic one . Some of those who are teeming with optimism now are usually the first ones to freak out when things go even slightly wrong .

so, yes, because of losing kelly & CK.

Some appreciate the history of the game.

Others think it was invented in 2004..........

Is that as long as it takes to prove or disprove this theory? I thought it was the rest of the damn century.
