If we dump a catcher somehow, we'll have Lin ready at AAA to come up if anyone but a catcher or 1Bman gets hurt, but we have very little, decent minor league depth after Lin.

C: Centeno, O Hernandez

1B: Travis, Ockimey (Chavis)

2B: Renda

SS: M Hernandez (starting season on DL--again!)/Chatham (AA)?

3B: Chavis (Dalbec AA)

OF: Travis? Brentz?

Let’s not pretend Lin is a star ready to bust out. His ceiling is Ed Jurak.

Still think the Sox could help their depth with some minor league deals, like Logan Forsythe, Carlos Gomez, and maybe beat Cincy to the punch for Iglesias.

Also don’t forget about Gorkys in the outfield. I’d think he’d be higher on the depth chart than Brentz...

Where did I prop up Lin other than to say he was "decent"?

I'd love to add Iggy.

My point was about how weak our everyday player minor league depth is, and trading or DFA'ing Swihart only weakens our ML depth.

Who the hell cares what Kraft does in his bedroom? If he is not married any more he has every right to seek companionship wherever he can find it and its pretty obnoxious of anyone to judge him for it. Even if he were married, thats not something that should concern any of us: it would be ONLY between him and his wife. To label him a "scumbag" for seeking companionship at age 77 - or at any other age for that matter- is the height of sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong.

My personal opinion of him is that he’s a scumbag. That’s not me sticking my nose in his business. It’s me expressing an opinion.

I just hope when I have his money (I don't see any reason why I won't, this being America and all), I will spring for more than a $79/hour hooker.

I didn't realize Bryce Brentz was back with us (as a non-roster invitee).

With our lack of extended OF depth, he might actually get to play some.

one of notin's favorites!

Yeah. Bryce Brentz.

Do we really need to rehash the Bryce Brentz “not a major leaguer/no really at 30 years old he’s still young enough to improve” argument? And do you want to take the same losing side again this year?

Let's avoid spending pages and pages on Brentz.

Hey I thought he was worthless a year ago. But hey, now it’s 214 PCL at bats later and this guy is ready for the cover art on “The Show 2020”...

Ah - looks like you boys are the ones giving life to Bryce Brentz. I was just trying to add a little humor. Don't be humorless guys. I'll continue to cheer for anyone in a Sox uniform.

Oh come on. I turned Bryce Brentz into a video game cover and asked you if you wanted the same losing side to the argument again this year? A bit over the top in the arrogance department for me, but clearly attempted humor.

Also, Bryce Brentz is not a major leaguer...

Hanley signs minor league deal with Guardians.

I saw that. Good for him

I do think it's time Double D went back into the pool and grabbed another minor league free agent signing or two.

And maybe - just maybe - signed a reliever to an MLB contract...

For the Sox , it has been the most idle , inactive post season since 2013 / 2014 . I am kind of disappointed, but still looking forward to opening day and hoping we can once again win the A.L. East .

On the surface, it does look pretty blase.

Replacing Pom with a full season from Eovaldi should be a big plus.

Replacing 2 months of HRam with 6 months of Pearce should give us a bump.

Replacing Kinsler with Pedey is the big wild card.

Better health could give us another boost, but it's not like we had more than our fair share last year.

You and I are usually on the same page. I think signing Eovaldi was a big freaking deal is you ask me.

Be careful about relying on last year's small samples for Nathan Eovaldi, Steve Pearce, Drew Pomeranz and Hanley Ramirez.

The 29-year-old Eovaldi has a career ERA+ of 96 in 850 innings while the 30-year-old Pomeranz has a career ERA+ of 110 in 710 innings.

The nearly 36-year-old Pearce has a career OPS+ of 111 in 737 games while the 35-year-old Ramirez has a career OPS+ of 124 in 1,652 games. If we rely on small samples, Pearce will be hard-pressed to match the .330/.400/.474/.874 line Ramirez posted in 110 plate appearances last March (12 PA) and April. Pearce never made more than 56 plate appearances in a month with the Red Sox.

Last year the Red Sox may have caught lightning in a bottle with Eovaldi and Pearce.

I know the history. I understand both could not repeat, but Pearce has gone 3-4 years of pretty good hitting (12th out of 40 1Bmen with 900+ PAs since 2016).

Eovaldi's history is severely hampered by injuries. To me, it's almost all about his health.I've been wrong before, but what he did for us in the playoffs transcends data and history.

Harm , It is funny how some will use small sample sizes when it suits their purpose. There is definitely a consistency gap . Will we get the Eovaldi and Pearce of the World Series heroics ? Or will we get pretty much what their career numbers would predict we should expect ? Stay tuned .

The small sample was offered precisely to mock its weakness.

The thing about Eovaldi is, he was a different pitcher last year. He added a cutter to his repertoire, and the results can be seen in the dramatic improvement in his K/BB, which was more than twice as good as his career mark.

His health is obviously a concern, but there is reason to think he was not lightning in a bottle. The Red Sox clearly thought so or they would not have guaranteed him $68 million.

Oh please notin, stop that. Even you are bright enough to know that I'm not arrogant. Wait - was that arrogant of me to say?

I know that . I was referring to those who normally reject the use of small sample sizes , but make an exception when it fits the narrative.

Half arrogant. I'll credit you with the "arro" part, but you have to earn the "gant" on your own...

Ok - I'll take the half. Even though it isn't in my dna, I will work harder in the future!
