At times, the 'Stros looked unbeatable, last year- as did the Yanks.

We're looking good, now, and I'm not worried.

Yep. Even with 108 wins, the best record, and home field, nobody gave us a shot against either one

We are a good team but we have been beating on the sisters of the poor. Stros are a World Series contender.

the astros are our bitch.

we own them both.

the last time the yankees had the upper hand on us was 16 seasons ago. they have been our toilet paper ever since. celebrating on their infield is a given....

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people assume we are only as good as our last 10 games, 3 games or even one game, unless we are doing well, then there still are nay-sayers.

We started off 17-2 last year, and then the Yanks took over first place by May 9th. You'd have thought the sky was falling.

This year, we went 8.5 games behind the division. Now, we are just 3 back. We currently hold the second wild card slot, if the season ended today. Cleveland seems to be the stiffest competition for that last slot, and they lost Kluber.

It's a 162 game season. Every team looks good for a while- some much longer than others- and bad for a while- some much longer than others. I don't know why some people assume a team will only continue to repeat what they look like in their most recent sample size, despite countless examples that prove them wrong. Sure, every now and then, a blind squirrel finds a nut, but come on! This team is essentially the same as last year's team. No way losing Kimbrel turns us into a non-contender. Yes, teams return almost in full and have major swings in wins and losses, but it is rare, unless there are injuries or major aging issues. Our team is young and almost all in prime or near prime. Our oldest players have marginal roles or have capable back-ups.

We should not see a steep decline. We are making the playoffs- barring major injuries. When October comes, I like our team's experience, coaching, leadership, offense, defense, pitching, base-running and overall chances.

Our oldest players:

36 Steve Pearce (short platoon 1Bman with Chavis as back-up)

35 Pedroia (who counted on him anyways? Holt/Nunez/Chavis/Lin in reserve)

33 Moreland (barely past prime. Pearce & Chavis is reserve)

33 Price (currently on a cautionary IL, but has looked good for over a year)

32 Nunez (currently hobbled, but he's just a sub.)

Everyone else is 31 or younger!

We aren't declining. We could get even better.

It sure feels good, doesn't it?

For decades we were their bitch. We're getting close to 2 decades of reversed roles.

Gotta love it!

Not really. I am just stating the fact that we will play a contender soon.

dont take this personally - but are you really a Red Sox fan? you post in just about every GT so i think you are a Sox fan but based on the content of your actual posts it makes me doubt that.

Wait - Do you actually know any fans of a New England sports team who claim to be truly happy with their chosen team? In this country thems could be fightin words. You being Canadian of course can get away with saying that but we truly are never really happy about very much.

By remembering the last six or seven decades, perhaps?

Those were miserable decades, but we've had over 15 years of solid teams-- even the last place teams looked okay to start the year.

yup. we got kids in HS that only know Red Sox as the hammer and yankees as the nail....

the "suffering" is long since over.

Calling him a second baseman is an affront to second basemen past and present. He is playing there because there’s no other place to put him and his offense warrants a spot in the lineup. Once the league adjusts to him and his huge swing, and once the cavalry returns, my guess is you’ll see him slot in as a stalwart vs lefty pitching and a PHer or random 2b/3b/1b for rest purposes. His presence makes the Steve Pearce singing look rather stupid in retrospect and his presence may cost Pearce a spot

For 2020, it’s very simple. Chavis, right now, will be your starting 1b on opening day 2020. You can save the $13 mil and reinvest it elsewhere.

OR, he could make adjustments and continue to perform at the plate which would make it difficult to take him off 2nd base.

Where is the chart on this one Doc?:P

I got this from a Yankee Fan known as Fat Man:

Bumgarner to R-Sox

INF Chavis

With different combos

Possible 2B Panik going to Sawx also

Nope. Have not heard it. I wonder how this deal would effect the cap?

I say stand pat unless another starting pitcher goes on an extended dl stint.

Evo should be back, right?

Bumgarner may be over the hill, but he'd still be a nice get. I'm not sure about going over the max line for him.

i love how all yankees fans cant type Red Sox or Sox....its always Sawx. its a dead giveaway on trolls....

I would do this trade in a heartbeat if JH is willing to pay the tax.

Maybe they can get a job at the WH as a spell-checker.

Evo is already throwing on flat ground.

Worth pointing out, like every player with a partial no-trade list, Bumgarner has included the Red Sox...

I thought we were not going to Panik this early ? Overall, this deal sounds way too soon, and what would it cost in players and luxury tax?

Chavis for Bumgarner would be great for the Giants, idiocy by DD. Chavis has a better future, is under team control for a long time and therefore costs way less, and is less likely to get a serious injury. Oh, and he so far has been just what the doctor ordered for the Sox offense. Bumgarner will be just another arm who may or may not be able to handle lineups that include DH's instead of pitchers.

In 2013 that other GM gave up Iglesias to get Peavy, but already had two SS's, one of whom is now a mainstay on the Sox. The Sox currently have no backup for Chavis at 2B, and please don't tell me Nunez is--or Holt for that matter.

not true....chicks dig long ball...

 Not true.

I would take a well-pitched, well-defended, 1-0 game any day of the week over a 11-10 slugfest.

Red Sox Notes‏ @SoxNotes 19m19 minutes ago

Red Sox since being swept by the Tigers in a doubleheader on Apr. 23:

.765 win % (13-4, T-1st in MLB)

121 runs scored (1st in MLB)

.283 AVG (1st in MLB)

.383 OBP (1st in MLB)

95 BB (1st in MLB)

2.74 ERA (1st in AL)

.190 opponent AVG (1st in MLB)

.586 opponent OPS (1st in MLB)

We have also had the best run differential in MLB at +69 since April 17th, per Bob Nightengale.

It's the other teams that should be worried.
