Admittedly, I don't follow the game as closely as I once did . I honestly never heard of this jabroni.

Nicely played, you got in both ham and egger and jabroni on this guy.

Now Nunez is on the IL and Chavez is coming up. Turns out with Pedroia, Holt and Nunez hurting the Sox were out of options. Don't know how Chavez will be used as Lin will no doubt play second. I expect Beni to be back tonight.

Chavis has 44 HRs (and 53 2B + 3B) in his last 682 ABs.

That's about one XBH every 7 ABs.

Here’s what I don’t get.

Cora said about Chavis at 2b “he still has some work to do there,” implying Chavis was not called up to fill the 2bboid.

So how is he going to get that work if he isn’t playing there? Why not call someone else up (Travis? Lovullo? Tobias? Sturgeon?) and let Chavis do whatever is required at 2b instead of sitting on the Boston bench waiting for pinch hitting opportunities?

Yuck. It's April 19.

I know, just responding to a previous post.

I still have the Sox penciled in for the playoffs, don't forget.

Calling Chavis up is clearly a panic move, as was calling up Devers a couple of years ago.

Devers was not ready to be called up and neither is Chavis.

Cora more or less said just yesterday that we would not see Chavis yet.

For a team that is 'not concerned' about the slow start, this reeks of desperation.

Where is Marco Hernandez anyway?

It's not "panic." Chavis' bat is ML ready, and we have Lin to play 2B.

Our offense is ice cold.

It's not the first time a team might have to play a poor defensive guy at a position in a pinch.

Yes, it's a panic move.

Just like it was with Devers.

That's not to say that Chavis can't help the team, but it's a panic move.

How was Devers "not ready" when he was called up? He hit .284 the first year up in almost 60 games. I know it's traditional to claim this, but I don't see what the evidence is.

Let's see Chavis play before deeming him ready/not ready.

I say let him start and bench Lin. A little baptism by fire never hurt anyone.

Ok maybe anyone who was baptized by fire got hurt. But that’s not the point...

Panic? We are down 3 infielders with injuries. If one of our infielders twists something who goes into replace them. They had to bring him up. There was no choice. He will go down next week when Pedey or Holt come back.

Panic move? You mean like......designating Swihart in favor of fatass?

That’s a good point too..

Then there is JBJ with over 12 % of the season gone he is hitting 138 with a 315 OPS. Would it be a panic to look for a replacement for him?

It sure would be.

JBJ always has a .315 OPS in mid-April. But sometime in the June/July timeframe, he will briefly morph Mickey Mantle. Quit acting like you haven’t seen this show before...

Sorry, I should have clarified. Not ready defensively.

I have not seen him play.

I'm going by what Cora and the scouting reports say.

His bat might be ready, but he is not ready defensively.

According to Cora, Chavis isn't going to play any 2B. That is going to be Lin's job.

Chavis was called up to play 3B/1B.

LOL I was actually thinking, as I was typing that post, that I should say that I didn't even pencil it in, I penned it in.

I'm not much of a pencil user. :)

Fair point.
