Price tweeted out that he holds all the cards now. EEI is assuming he opts out or gets dealt.

I seriously doubt he opts out. No way he gets 4yrs $124 mil on the open market. If the Sox deal him, they’ll eat some money, but should get something for him. Interesting doings

No. Even with his outstanding postseason, no GM is going to give him more money and years with his history of elbow trouble.

I think fans view postseason stats very differently than most GMs, and especially stats from one postseason for starting pitchers...

I agree. I doubt a few starts did much at all to change his "value."

He stays in Boston, at least for a year or two more. We may see a tax rest in a year or two, and trading him then might make more sense, but Price will be in Boston for 2019. Book it.

The weird thought occurred to me last night that it had to be the first World Series game featuring 2 starters who both had opt-outs after the season. :P :D

No way he's option out. He's not getting that money from anyone else. I like what he has done for the team but if he wants to opt out, have at her. Will make the red sox payroll easier to work with moving forward

And price made that reference holding the cards because of his recent post season success. He was referring to the reporters and doubters. He now holds the card as he proved them wrong and they can't use that against him. He was not referring to his current salary / contract situation

His comments about holding all the cards was in relation to him getting the "no win in the Post Season" off his back. he said "You guys have always had that card to play against me, now I hold all the cards."

I hope he does opt out though. I dearly hope he opts out, despite his brilliance in the playoffs. He won't get better than this and will decline in the next three years, possibly quite steeply.

He won't, however.

thanks Harmony.

if he doesn't opt out - i will never have another bad thing to say about Price's contract. when signed i hated it but i have always said that if Price helps us get just 1 parade the contract will be worth it. the contract is worth it.

thank you Mr. Price.

Yup, he's still a tool, but he's not the first tool to play for the Sox and he wont be the last.

Hell, the Sox are owned by a couple of tools. ;)

Yup...Price's "I hold the cards" comment has nothing to do with contracts. It had everything to do with media abuse which he focuses on far too much. Just go out and pitch David. That is all anybody cares about. If you mouth off while NOT pitching to expectation in this town, thats on you dude. The Sox offered Price monster money over what anybody else offered to come here and he took the money to play in a town where that was going to have obvious consequences. I don't at all blame Price for taking the money. But don't tell me you had your eyes closed David. That would be rank BS.

That is all water over the dam now unless................

While WS-MVP is not a really great award, Price will also have the support of fans in Boston that think he should have gotten that award over Pearce or that there should have been co-WS-MVP's.

In a week, nobody will care about the WS MVP award.

David Price can say anything he wants about the media and their treatment of him today and forever and anyone who says differently is a cop

Price is not opting out - that is a lot of money. When i saw him getting misty eyed talking about the value of being a teammate, he has the right to enjoy this. He hasn't been the most cuddly person media-wise, but you see how willing he was to do anything to win, and how much his arm was able to bounce back. It was great to see.

Correct...he is not opting out. Why in the name of God would he?

I mean the Red Sox ideally hoped that Price would be a #1-caliber starter for 3 years then they could say goodbye to each other while he got one more #1 starter payday somewhere of his choice.

That said, I feel about Price the way I feel about Lester ... even if he is not an ace anymore, I fully expect him (assuming health) to be a solid useful pitcher for another 2-3 seasons. His mechanics and command support that.

Price came here for two reasons, for money and to be on a team with a chance to win it all. He got both and since much of the core group will be back next season he has no reason to leave.

MVP: Price, Eovaldi, Kelly, Pearce... I would have split the award 4 ways, and given another award to the whole post-season pitching staff. But, I was surprised Price wasn't the winner, esp since the camera kept focusing on him just before the announcement.

I guess given the length and cost of Price's contract, I would prefer he opt out, but if he doesn't, I wish him superior health and success over the next 3-4 years.

Who knows, he could be our ace next year? Sale's shoulder seems to be really f***ed up from what I've heard

IMO we're going to be hearing a lot about that shoulder in the upcoming weeks and not much of it will be good.

I'm certainly not saying that his career is over but I think we'll learn more about the "rest" he got during August & September and why he didn't get more innings in the post-season.

I only mentioned this one other time on the board and for the life of me now I cannot remember what thread I put it in (probably game 4 game thread) but not only was Eo's performance in Game 3 heroic within the confines of Game 3 but he totally spared the Sox pen in that game. Yes he was going to be unavailable until God knows when after that, but virtually everybody else WAS available because of what Eo did in Game 3.

Look what happened to dingdong Dave Roberts (great base runner but no manager to my mind). He goes on to rule out some of his pitchers the very night of Game 3 in the post game presser! "He's out....He's....out....Oh yea and he's out too" AND he was not kidding!

Cora after game 3: "Everybody is available for Game 4.....Eo is ready to go" Now Eo was likely not available having spared the Sox pen in Game 3. But virtually everybody else was.

Off topic, on all scores Roberts was flat goofy. The way he used his pitchers was totally nuts in game. Who knows what his plan pre-game was but I can't put much stock in that. Looked totally goofy and he handled the press end of it and the edge he handed Cora in the process, AGAIN TOTALLY GOOFY!

He didn't spare the pen. The only guy left in the pen at that point was Pomeranz.
