Price in Boston in 480 IP in 3 years:

39 W

19 L

.672 W%

3.74 ERA

And this is with losing almost a whole year to injury. I'll take it.

he got us a parade. IMO his contract is worth it no matter where the final numbers end up.

But he has been pretty darn good during his tenure, and people have been rooting for an opt out since day 1. I never understood the logic.

but if he did opt out that would be a win-win, no?. he got us a parade...and if he opts out we are out from under $31MM x 4 as he heads thru mid 30's.

but again, he doesnt need to throw another pitch and im good with the contract. that's how much a parade means to me.

I disagree. If he is worth more than his current contract, then the Red Sox hold an undervalued asset. Why would we want to lose an undervalued asset? If he is not worth his current contract, then he will not opt out. There is just no economic logic to hoping that he opts out.

David Price has posted 8.8 fWAR, valued at $59.9 million, in his three Boston seasons while being paid $90 million. If he does not opt out, the lefthander has four years and $127 million remaining on his contract.

I question whether a 33-year-old Price would do better on the open market.

According to Alex Spe

ier and WEEI, via Twitter, Price is not opting out.

no surprise there.

I've known he wouldn't opt out since he had his injury troubles last year. Price wasn't going to do better than this contract unless he stayed completely healthy and effective which mostly through no fault of his own, he did not. To me this whole thread has been a nonissue from day 1

Are you trying to suggest we're wasting time here? :D

Not sure why you waste your time with us peons.

Come on stop that! You think that there are people posting here who aren't wasting their time? I am I understand that for sure but it is kind of fun some of the time. lol

There must be a few people out there - anyone who thinks that he might opt out this contract - who don't realize that David Price is an intelligent man.

This.

Pitchers don't often come up as clutch as he did in 3 straight games in the playoffs not to mention pitching out of the bullpen.

I really never thought he would opt out in order to try to get a better contract. I thought there was a good possibility of him opting out if he was truly unhappy playing for Boston. Having pitched the way he did in the postseason and winning back the fans, there was no way he was opting out.

have we heard this before - With respect to David Price (God bless him for what he has done), it is all about the $. End of story. There is no way anyone was going to pay him what What Boston is paying him. I'm sure that he is happy that fans seem to love him now but seriously, it is all about the $ with him. I still like him a lot though.

It's all about the $ with every single person in the world. I'm sure cp, you were no different when you were getting reviewed at work and wanted to be paid fairly. Why should Price opt to take less than what the market will bear for him?

@redsoxstats

How Price has matched up with the top 2 starters on the market this winter, 2016-2018.

35 28 3.77 3.78 7.3 2.7 Keuchel

That doesn't make Price a bad person. Makes him intelligent. Like I said, I still like him, but I don't think that he is coming back to hang with us fans and the Boston media. He shouldn't have opted out and obviously he didn't. I'll bet on the fact that he wasn't going to get abetter offer foramen else. I'm glad he is coming back. As for me - teacher, pay scale, didn't make much money, had fun.
