Pearce was an excellent choice and I’m glad to see some props go to a guy with a pretty undistinguished career...

Pearce ripped the heart out of Dodgers, in Game 4. The he put a topper by hitting a 2 Run HR off Kershaw, before Price took the Mound, with a 3-1 series lead. Like I said if series was tied 2-2, and Price had all the pressure, to flip the series, then yes, MVP for Price. Pearce for me, MVP.

I believe I read somewhere Houston Astros passed out each player share of $387K to 76 or so individuals. That's pretty good pay day for guys like Brasier. I'm happy for them. Merry Christmas.

Awards & trucks are just part of the noise. I can actually see Pearce as one of the few guys on the team that could probably get some use out of that Chevy. I’m fine with it. Price got his bragging rights back, silenced the haters, that’s better than any award or truck, and good for him too. Edited by Emp9

Absolutely.

The World Series MVP award is a joke, really.

It's hard enough selecting the correct MVP for a 162 game season. Trying to do it for a 5 game series just gets silly.

Somebody gets it. So what you going to do? Just try to make points, why certain players deserve it. Bumgarner a few years ago, it would have been a shame if there was no MVP for the World Series.

Benitendi's defence in particular was off the charts this post season. That game ending catch against Houston will live long in the memory...

Mookie robbed a HR (should’ve robbed two if it weren’t for that fan), threw a strike to 2B to nab a runner... Beni made at least 3 great to unbelievable and crucial catches. JBJ made plays. One sticks out for me was him running all the way to damn near 2B to rob a hit. He’s the glue that holds it all together and makes tough catches look easy, to a fault. Our Out Field shined this post season and I’m glad they got the opportunity to show what they can do on the big stage.

Well, there has to be a better choice to be a bad call. Maybe there was a pitcher who dominated more than JBJ's 9 RBIs, almost all of which put us a head near the end of 3 games.

9 RBIs was a third of all the runs we scored.

Price pitched 2 games in the ALCS not 3 and had a decent, but not great 3.38 ERA-- 32 outs out of 44 batters faced.

E-O pitched in 2 games (7.1 IP) with a 2.45 ERA-- 22 outs out of 31 batters faced.

Again, I don't see a pitcher as deserving as Price was in the WS.

Recap:

JBJ clears the bases loaded with a dbl to put us up 5-4 in game 2. (We were down 1 game to none.)

Down 5-4 in game 4, JBJ hit a 2 run job to put us up 1

Game 5, tie game, he hits a 3 run job to clinch the win.

I never said it was all about PAs vs batters faced. I said that was the deciding factor (assuming everything else was kind of even).

Devers hit the 3-run homer in game 5, not JBJ. And they weren't tied, they were leading 1-0 at the time.

It’s a fun debate, don’t get me wrong. But they could’ve awarded the WS MVP to Pomeranz for NOT pitching, I’d been fine with it. That’s how irrelevant it is to me.

Geez I guess the Governor thinks its a good year to be all in with the Red Sox. He was pounded today at the rally....just crushed before 12 noon.

"WOOOO-HOOOOOO".

OK Governor!

I still have most of the games on my DVR list. I froze them all at the best moments and went back' date=' again, to enjoy them last night. My favorite moment of the entire playoff run was JBJ's grand slam. I've seen that a whole bunch of times. [b']"Jackie Bradley Jr.! A knockout punch here in the 8th!" [/b]was the call and it's awesome.

I still have the games on my DVR as well. I will go back over the winter, when I'm really going through baseball withdrawal, and relive the magic. :)

Eovaldi’s performance was truly inspiring. After that game (Muncy’s walk off) I still felt 70% ok & confident about the next game later that day. I’m mean, if a 7 hr & 20 min 18 inning game is what it’s going to take to beat these Red Sox? Have at it. Of course losing a game like that for most teams, there’s always a chance that that could wind up being some sort of turning point in the series. This team just recovers quickly, all year. They play ‘til the end. 2 strikes. 2 outs. All year. If the game isn’t over yet, I like our chances. When I heard that Cora held a club house meeting of some sorts to congratulate Eovaldi after the loss and the team applauded him and his outstanding effort, my confidence level went back to 100%.

As much as losing those close games hurts, it is actually a much better sign to lose a close game than it is to lose a blowout. As I've said many times, a one run loss or win comes down to random factors more than it comes down to skill. Losing that game was crushing, but not in the sense of the overall outcome of the series. I never thought we would sweep any of the series to begin with, so I still really liked our chances after that game.

So true about Bumgarner and the MVP award.

And Orel Hershiser in 1988 when he almost single-handedly defeated the Bash Brothers. Or was it the Steroid Siblings? Or were they the ones who went by “We Are P-E-D”?

Anyway, Hershiser was about as dominant as any player ever...

Yeah I was watching some of the games again last night and I came to realize that winning 4-1 with the only loss taking 18 innings is about as close to a sweep as you can get. This really was a special season, best in Sox history so I guess this has to be considered the best team they've ever had.

Certainly the best team in comparison to their competition. I'm not so sure that if you could somehow pit the various World Series Sox teams together that the 2018 edition would consistently win.

I'd put them as the #2 seed of our 4-teams ...

2004 I'd put #1 ... better starting pitching, the most complete lineup of the bunch

#2 - 2018

2007 #3

2013 #4

The 04 team managed to get down 0-3 vs the Yankees. This team won more games and, in truth, the outcome of all of the playoff series was never in doubt. They were more dominant than the 04 team, by far. I think the 04 team was more fun to watch-coming back from three games down v the Yankees.....hard to beat that.

04 had a better offensive lineup, but defense is important in the playoffs. I'd take the 18 playoff rotation and pen over the 04 rotation and pen (Pedro was on the backend, Lowe was nothing special).

Both 04 and 18 went 11-3 in the postseason.

The only losses for the 04 team came to set up the greatest comeback ever.

Also the 04 had the lead after every single inning in the World Series except the 5th (or 6th?) inning of game 1, when the game was tied. The only reason that series was ever in doubt was those of us still fearing 1986...

The 07 team also went 11-3.

The 13 team was 11-5.

Combined totals 44-14. A winning % of .759.

Not bad.

The defense in 04 was not great granted. But the bullpen was at least as good and the rotation was stronger. Backend Pedro had 5.5 WAR, 4th in the American league! Lowe was wildly inconsistent, but coming off of a Cy Young caliber season and obviously flat brilliant in the playoff run. It would be a fun series.

I would offer that the 2004 Angels > 2018 Yankees and the 2018 Astros vs 2004 Yankees is fairly close. The 2018 Dodgers were a bit better than the 2004 Cardinals (or a least the Chris Carpenter-less one we faced)

The 2007 team had the most dominant end-game bridge with Okajima to Papelbon. That said all 4 teams had good bullpens. Uehara was clearly the best closer of the bunch - though Foulke's crazy flexibility gave him specific special value outside of a traditional closer's expectations.
