OK quick trivia question - before Kinsler, what was the name of the last Sox second baseman to make a postseason crucial error before this one.

I’m guessing Pedroia. I never minded too much if he did though. He always seemed to make up for any fielding mistake with his bat later in the same game.

Didn’t Todd Walker have a big error? If not him I’m guessing Bellhorn? I really can’t think of any big ones Pedroia made but maybe I’m drawing a blank.

Kinsler has had an excellent career. His career WAR is about the same as Pedroia's. And he had some good postseason numbers coming into this year. Last night was just one of those disasters similar to ones that have befallen others before him like Jackie Smith and Bill Buckner.

Comparing Ian Kinsler and Dustin Pedroia:

I saw Kinsler play for the Clinton LumberKings in 2004 when the 22-year-old slashed .402/.465/.692/1.157 over 255 plate appearances in the Class A Midwest League:

The good veteran had a bad night on Friday.

Lol. Ok gale. Sorry...I missed all your posts during the GT in the wee hours of the morning...

The game thread is not for everybody. Definitely not for me. But that's okay . If it helps some fans enjoy the game more , then that is fine. I stayed up and watched every inning.

His error changed the entire momentum of that series and the Red Sox went down after that.

You guys got it.

White Sox were effin monsters that year - and given me a fun way to needle Cubs fans in 2016 who whined about how long it's been since Chicago has had a winner.

I had fun needling Cubs’ fans in 2001 when Arizona won it all. “Their fans had to wait four long years for a title.” And “the last time the Cubs won the World Series, Arizona wasn’t even a state.” (This was actually true in 2001.)

But I live among these Cub fan freaks...

Yeah, complaining non stop in game thread is the real way to be a fan.

Nice to see Moreland prove this clown wrong.

All year we had to listen to Yankee clown fans tell us how rotten our 5 to 9 hitters are. Well, watch and weep Skankee fans!

That is true, a bad night coming at an inopportune time. I don't think he will live in infamy over it. Reset, next play.

A footnote.

The answer to a trivia question.

The guy did stabilize the 2B position for a month or so.

This. This team was just too good to let that define them.. and it was an absolute ridiculous play that

infuriated me at the time. It looked like he overran the ball, got his legs twisted and flung the ball about five yards wide.

I don't understand how a major league player throws a baseball that wide of the mark.

It's a nasty error which lead to a bad loss in the longest World Series game ever played.

Is it on Durham's or Buckner's level?? Not even in the same building.

Or Tony Fernandez, whose error on a routine grounder in the 11th inning of game 7 of the 1997 World Series is always overlooked...

2 thing about Kinsler that I didn't understand, he hit .191 against Lefties this year, and only 1 HR in 25 games at Fenway. 92 at bats. He's getting old, hitting .191 to against Power Pitchers. Move on, from him.

Oh yes.. terrible play. I think he kinda short armed the ball. An error in extra innings of a game seven.. yikes.

Good luck getting to sleep after a play like that.

And the other Alex Gonzalez...

..and for all his Babe Ruth style heroics at the plate.. Daniel Murphy made two errors for the Mets in two straight World Series games vs the Royals.. The Mets had them on the ropes too..

For all the talk about Durham and Buckner... Murphy's two World Series errors may be the worst of all. It's just awkward because he was a beast at the plate throughout that entire post season.

I don't think he gets a lot of heat for that. Cub fans blamed Steve Bartman.

And yes.. Steve did play a role in that disastrous inning.

I was at Dodger Stadium in game 3 and that error by Kinsler in the 13th inning was something you can't put in words —beyond frustrating; mentally and physically I was done LOL!. We spent 9-10 hours at Dodger Stadium, considering that we arrived like 2-3 hours earlier, not to mention we had to walk like 3 miles or something to get there and another 3 miles to get back to the airbnb place we were staying since the uber service just collapsed in the zone considering the demand, plain crazy. We finished devastated that day, I literaly couldn't feel my legs LOL!

When Kinsler blew it up with that throw, after 5-6 hours there, my wife looked at me with anger because she wanted to leave mostly because that day was her birthday and we planned to go dinning after the game, plus we went with my 2 YO little boy and the weather didn't help –it was little cold and windy for us. In the end we stayed there all the game and while it was really frustrating it was a great experience.
