We have seen that Cora can be a creative fellow. Mookie at second is not entirely out of the question.

There's creative and then there's asking for trouble.

The Sox are having enough defensive issues at 3rd, without adding a rusty second baseman.

Bradley sits, Mookie moves to CF.

All I know if we face the Dodgers, JD hits Kershaw pretty good, 5-11, with 2 HRS. 3 Lefties for the Dodgers, going to be interesting on the Match-ups, throughout series. Whether home or away. Edited by OH FOY!

I'd like to see JD get some reps at 1B during spring training next year. I think that's easier than asking Betts to play 2B.

Should we really be sitting JBJ 3 games in a row the way he's been swinging it?

3 hits in 5 games. Pump the brakes a little bit. I'd rather have JDM and Betts in the roster than JBJ. MAYBE sit Beni?

I was most certainly not advocating for JDM or Mookie to sit.

While he did connect on two huge HRs, JBJ is hitting .184 in the post season.

JD has hit two out and is hitting .318. Given the choice between the two, I'll take JD all day.

There was no suggestion to sit JD.

If it was a great idea, Cora would have done this in the regular season.

i mean sort of true. we never saw Sale, Porcello, or Evo pitch (relief) in the 8th during the regular season either.

and you know what....kinsler looked good in his AB's yesterday so maybe his offense isnt quite buried just yet. but i still think putting Mook at 2b would work. he still takes grounders in the IF quite often.

what do i think will really happen?

i think he will rotate JBj & Beni out of the lineup.

Betts & JD will start every game.

with a lead, JD will be pulled for defense.

I trust Cora more than I trust myself or any of you other dingbats on here. He's shown over and over again that he's able to deftly manage not only a full season but the playoffs too.

I don't know if they have done any work with him during the season ... but it would make much more sense for the lineup to play him at 1B. But the most likely move is to sub him for Bradley, especially if there is a lefthander on the mound.

This is one of the reasons that the AL team has a (very slight) edge in the World Series over an NL team. The AL's pinch hitter in an NL ball park is better than the NL team's DH in an AL park.

My guess is Cora sits JBJ 2 games and Beni 1 vs a lefty.

I seriously doubt they ask Mookie to play 2B after not using him there for ages.

They should have had JD learn some 1B in ST'ing.

If AGon can play RF, JD should be able to play 1B.

I'd be tempted to play Betts at 2nd. He played there when I watched them play the Yanks. He didn't look out of place at all. Otherwise it's likely to be JBJ for two, Beni for one.

I forgot about that game.

Maybe we try it.

at LA

1. Betts 2B

2. Beni LF

3. JD RF

4. Bogey SS

5. Devers 3B

6. Pearce-Moreland 1B

7. JBJ CF

8. Vaz-Leon C

9. pitcher

I hate the idea of Betts at 2nd.

4 reasons:

1) The Altuve interference play in Game 4

2) The Kemp play in Game 4 (I acknowledge that at that point of the game Betts would probably go to RF to replace JDM anyway).

3) The catch on Bregman in Game 5

JDM comes no where near to making ANY of those plays.

And the biggest reason I don't want Mookie at 2nd:

4) The Machado factor if it's the Dodgers. He's already ended/significantly affected one Sox second sackers career; I do not want him adverseky affecting a guy who's on a path to being one of the best Sox ever.

Does all this outweigh the bat of...

JBJ vs Kinsler/Nunez/Holt?

Posted

My thought is that Mookie and JBJ are either gold glove or close to it in the two toughest OF positions, so right away I like keeping them exactly where they have been.

Beni's post-season OPS is .625 to JBJ's .853--big edge to JBJ. Moreover, JBJ's August and September OPS's were .826 and .827 vs, Beni's .771 and .667.

So JBJ has a significant edge on offense and defense. No contest. Beni sits 3 games.

Mookie at 2b weakens two positions on defense--2B and RF. And, if LA is in the WS, you can bet Machado ("the machete") will go after his knees, ankles, whatever. Ty Cobb reborn.
