Espinal was one of our better Prospects, this a Trade that we will see how it looks about 3 years from now. DD essentially has Traded away 2 of our Best Prospects at the SS position in 2 years. Dubon, and Espinal.

One for a Reliever that is struggling in the Minors, and a Rental.

Either DFA or a deal already worked out ? Seems to me Pearce ,Brandon Phillips,Nuney are more than enough now ? What happens to Holt ? Swihart ?

They will demote Tzu Wei-Lin..

Saw an interesting tidbit this morning: as soon as he appears in a game, Pearce will have played for all 5 AL East teams

Only other player to do so was Kelly Johnson...

Soxprospects.com ranked Espinal 19th in a weak farm system and said he profiled as a future utility infielder

He was 23 years old and still in A-ball, granted due to a late start from playing JuCo ball. But I really doubt the Sox miss him...

Perfect Game has him rated higher than Soxprospects, haven't been on that site in years. Spend some money, this is a better site. Dubon was rated #9 on Sox Prospects, I guess, Perfect Game had him rated at 2. Edited by OH FOY!

I believe the SOX will continue the season with Holt/Nunez at 2nd.

IMO this would be a big mistake. both of these players are part timers at best now. IMO.

Even then, is he still likely more than a future utility infielder? Not that UIF's are unimportant, but certainly they are replaceable and ca be acquired multiple ways quickly.

If he is the next Carlos Asuaje, was it a bad deal?

Agreed.

DD spent $8M on Nunez as insurance against Pedey.

He's not goingto spend more on insurance against Nunez.

it was a bad move by DD. nunez 2b defense is terrible. if he is stubborn and stands pat on 2b it may very well cost us a parade.

I see Espinal at 15th on Soxprospects' most recent rankings. He's raised his stock a lot this season, and has been one of the few legitimate prospects delivering positive results consistently, but I wouldn't bet on him being someone we'll miss terribly.

Pearce has 2B experience with 240 innings at the position and a 0.1 UZR/150. Think he gets time there?

Do the Sox even have a prospect we would miss terribly if he was traded?

I'd hate to see Holt leave.

Why would Holt be leaving? Holt is going nowhere.

If anyone is leaving, it will be Swihart.

DD already got all the big fish he could afford.

I'm nearly certain he won't do anything as bold as you are suggesting.

I think Dombrowski will add a BP arm, and that will be it.

Pearce is a nice little pick up.

Good job by Dave.

It's a good add, but not a great one.

My only issue is Pearce has been injured a lot the past couple years.

I said before that you needed to elongate your lineup. Doesn’t mean you have to have killers at every spot, just guys capable of OPS’ing .750 who aren’t essentially an auto out. This is a good pickup

Pearce is one of those mediocre players who annoyingly plays a lot better against the Yankees.

Career: .255/.322/.443/.775

Career vs Yankees: .281/.376/.521/.897 (194 PAs)

Shrewd move Boston.

Another platoon bat - along with Brandon Phillips. Now, there is evidence that the Red Sox issues vs lefties is more dumb luck and small sample size than anything ... but either way, some small moves to try to provide some backup is a good idea.

I think our lineup has already been lengthened lately simply through improvement from the guys we have - Devers, Bradley, Vazquez/Leon, and even Nunez have all hit a bit better lately, and this looks like a completely different lineup when the bottom of the order is pulling its weight. Obviously there's all kinds of SSS at play there, but I think there's reason to hope that some or all of those guys could hit better in the second half than they did in the first.

None of that, of course, diminishes the value of having a guy with some pop who hits lefties coming off the bench, whichis why I like the Pearce move as well.

I'm not sure how this really elongates our lineup. Pearce wasn't picked up to become a starter and permanently replace anyone. At least I don't think he was. I agree that he makes our team better because he makes our bench better.

Besides, have you noticed how well the bottom of our lineup is hitting recently?

it is good Bradley's results have started to catch up to how he has been hitting it. He has hit the ball harder and in the air more this year but the results have only recently started to come on.

Agree. It's nice to see that Bradley's hits are finally starting to fall in. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Devers and Bradley are also starting to elongate.
