I unconditionally love Xander Bogaerts. f*** Wolverine, Xander is the only real Xmen in my book. f*** DMX, Xander is the only X gonna give it to me. X marks the spot? More like Xander marked the monster with a double.

I am not religious, but last night was a dark time for me today. I was sad about the injury, so I started a bonfire in my backyard and dabbled into some witchcraft, I burned and sacrificed all the baseball cards of former Red Sox shortstops. Stephen Drew, Jed Lowrie, Mike Aviles, Marco Scutaro, Nomar Garciaparra, Alex Gonzalez, Orlando Cabrera, Yamaico Navarro, Julio Lugo, Jose Iglesias, Edgar Renteria and John Valentin were all sacrificed. I felt guilty and went to church. I waited till exactly 2 AM to pray for Xander (he wears #2) and I think I had some help.

According to Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston, Xander Bogaerts (ankle) was undergoing treatment Monday to determine if a trip to the disabled list is necessary.

It's at least encouraging that there's some debate about whether he'll need a stint on the disabled list, but there's nothing official yet. Bogaerts injured his left ankle Sunday when he slid while trying to track down an errant throw to third base. He's already undergone tests, so the Red Sox should provide an update soon. Nice try Stephencurry, but the situation cleary needs an animal sacrifice of some kind. Re-Read the handbook for Christ sake. Sigh. Now someone has to make it right. I can shuffle around my schedule but this undoubtedly ruins my afternoon plans.

You must be from The Church of the Divine Potty Mouths! In my church the only time it is proper to "drop the F bomb" is when preaching a sermon involving the demonic doings of the Steinbrenners and their family of fallen angels. Can I get an amen from the congregation?

He cracked a bone and will only miss ten days? I will believe it when I see it. Hopefully this doesn't turn in to a Swihart or Greg Bird situation.

What are the thoughts on Nunez to SS, Betts to 2nd, Beni to RF and Swihart to LF? A lot of moving parts but it's about time to see what Swihart can bring on an everyday basis.

No. That will weaken the team even more.

Bring up Lin and use a time share with Holt at short.

That's too much to do that doesn't have to be done. Just let Lin & Nunez fight it out for the SS position and leave everything else intact.

I'd like to get Swihart some meaningful time too but not at the expense of playing musical chairs with our fielders and disrupting one of the best outfields in baseball.

you were asking for thoughts, right? :)

Ten to fourteen days sounds a little optimistic. I just hope it doesn't linger on and on.

They are bringing Lin up as he is the best defensive shortstop currently in the system. Lin is not much of a hitter, so the other guys are going to have to pick it up for the next couple of weeks.

Yup.

Makes sense.

In the mean time our SS defense should be fun to watch.

Although his pairing with the hack Nunez at 2nd is far from ideal.

I just puked a little bit in my mouth

I say amputate the foot, shoot him up, and send him back out there!

You don't even need to amputate. Just shoot him up

[h=2]Red Sox Place Xander Bogaerts On Disabled List[/h]By Steve Adams | April 9, 2018 at 3:59pm CDT

The Red Sox announced that they’ve placed shortstop Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day disabled list due to a “small crack in the talus bone in his left ankle.” Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston first reported that the Sox were going to place Bogaerts on the DL with a bone injury in his foot, adding that Bogaerts is in a walking boot (all Twitterlinks).

While any kind of broken bone is worrying, it seems this is rather a minor injury. Indeed, the Sox’ announcement indicates optimism that Bogaerts can return in 10 to 14 days. They’ve recalled infielder Tzu-Wei Lin from Triple-A Pawtucket in the meantime.

Nevertheless, it’s unfortunate to see Bogaerts face an obstacle after he had turned in a strong opening run to the 2018 campaign, with a .368/.400/.711 slash over his first forty plate appearances. Last season was a bit of a down year at the plate for Bogaerts, who is still just 25 years of age. He’s already earning a healthy $7.05MM salary this year and could command a big payday in his final season of arbitration eligibility if he can return in relatively short order and continue to be productive with the bat.

I have never heard of or experienced a broken bone mending in 10-14 days. Maybe Jacko can enlighten us all about this magic!

The f***ing thing is swollen and hurts like a f*** , I am sure. All breaks do this. Obviously displaced fractures are much more worser!

I expect Bogey will be back around the first of June. But Unlike some here I don't pretend that my opinion is factual and the final word.

The injury actually ended up being a little worse than I thought. I figured maybe a sprained ankle, he'd go on the 10 days but a cracked bone and as much as two weeks? Glad he's not out with an acl or something, but that still sucks, esp with the Yankems coming in. Watch Stanton start getting hot now, I'd bet a dollar on it....

A "small crack" is a euphemism for a "non-displaced fracture." In the ankle, wouldn't 6-8 weeks be a better guess than 10-14 days? (Had he been able to walk off the field under his own power, I might be more optimistic.)

I am not a doctor, but the inability to leave the field under his own power was probably due to the pain from the trauma. If the bone is not part of a joint and the crack is small and non-displaced, the key will be to get the swelling down and to manage the pain. The trainers may be able to tape the area to protect it from further damage. Who knows. We will have to wait and see. It sucks to lose our hottest bat when we are about to face the Yankees. Of course, there is no such thing as a hitter on a hot streak.

Maybe it's just a hairline fracture. Those can heal quicker than 6-8 weeks, but 10-14 days does seem overly optimistic.

I just think the 10-14 days is more of the FO blowing their smoke. It does seem like they've often been wrong with their estimations, maybe so they don't show their hand to other teams. Or maybe to pacify the fans. Naw... they wouldn't do that!!
