I saw an interview with some '04 Sox player (I forget who at the moment) who said that Kevin Millar picked up the nickname of "Red Light" because he seemed to have an innate ability to know when a tv camera was headed his way. Hanley seemed (to me) to be the same way. Every time something good happened and they showed the Sox dugout, there was Hanley, hogging the view with a full frontal grin. It got tiresome.

But that just means you didn’t like what he did in the dugout. While you have you right to an opinion of him, that doesn’t mean anyone in the clubhouse shared it...

Correct. And it doesn't mean they didn't share it either.

And like I said earlier, some might very well have.

I think Hanley’s release was for much simpler reasons. He wasn’t playing good enough baseball to merit his 2019 option...

Any other opinion is flat out wrong.

Now that is a firm opinion. lol - It's a good thing none of us on here are opinionated. Just a joke - I'm pretty sure my years of posting here tell me that most of us are.

Opinions are like *******s. I have an opinion and everyone else on here is an *******.

And I agree that it was the primary reason.

It wasn't my intention to imply in my previous post that the primary reason for releasing Hanley was because he was camera hogging.

Wait hey wait a minute - I like that one! Did you come of with that change yourself? That gave me my daily chuckle and I will drink to that shortly! My personal post of the day - a gold star to you! Humor is ok

Awesome moment for Nunez.

Very happy for him. :)

I had just said to my girlfriend a second before the commentator uttered a similar line "I love watching Nunez bat, he loves to try and hit a bad ball" then...

The Sox do have the highest payroll in the majors, but we also have over $40 million tied up in players that are no longer with the club. When commentators talk about our payroll they forget that fact.

Not to mention the fact that they have all of that money tied up in a guy who can't pitch in October - Is too old to be productive going forward - has fingers that tingle in cold wet weather - doesn't like talking to the media - and must be a bad teammate because he hasn't publicly apologized to Eck.

LOL LOL LOL

Sorry I just couldn't help myself. But what the hell, I'm one of the guys who has tried to be supportive of him and not so much with Hanly Ramirez (nice guy who just wants to spend time with his family).

I still think Price is a jerk and I have not forgiven him for the Eck thing. But lately I'm in a more forgiving mood.

This^

I've moved from despise to simple dislike.

LAD have the third highest payroll. They aren't the sisters of the poor.

I’ve noticed that too. It’s very deceiving and glosses over the reality that’s on the field. It implies we somehow bought this team which is borderline offensive to anyone that’s been even remotely paying attention the last half decade.

To be fair, the fact that the Sox are a high payroll team is why they can absorb bad contracts and still field a competitive team.

I still believe MLB should have a spending minimum, as well as a luxury tax threshold.

There are too many "small market teams" that are pocketing TV contract money.

I don't disagree with this. And perhaps we should table this topic until the off-season. But I do find it funny that the talk all season long was about so many teams tanking it and now the media is gonna cryptically rag on the Red Sox payroll? Come on now. Which is it? You can’t have it both ways. And like MVP noted, LAD are no strangers to a high payroll or the highest payroll in the land in recent years either. If there could ever be a wash as far as payroll is concerned between two teams in a World Series, this is the year.

Another damn good idea! A spending minimum.

Talking heads have to talk about something and payroll disparities are guaranteed to elicit a response.

A big part of the reason the Sox have the highest payroll is because perennial big spenders LA and NYY basically took last off-season off to reset luxury tax for this off-season...

The owners are all very well heeled. Some are just more willing to put money into the team than others. It doesn't guarantee success , but it certainly helps. People complained for years about the Yankees buying championships. But Steinbrenner was not the wealthiest owner , far from it. But he wanted to win more than some of the others. Now people are crying about the Sox spending. Much of it is just envy and jealousy. Just like fans who moan about how much the players are making. Get over it.

It helped that George was taking in a lot of money in gate, concessions and memorabilia. He didn't need to spend much of his own money on FAs.

I've always felt the gate receipts should be split 50-50 with the visiting team. It would give every team an incentive to be good, so fans will want to watch them in away parks, too.

I'm not sure about splitting TV money, but it seems strange that people watch two teams on TV, but only one team gets paid for it. (I know away teams televise the games, too.)

The attendance , concession and merchandise money kind of goes hand in hand with winning. They can both feed off each other.

Fun fact: Red Sox 2018 payroll is still $30 Mil shy of Dodgers 2017 payroll.

Pretty amazing how the Dodgers were able to keep Jansen and Turner and still get below the tax limit.

They shed a lot of dead money.

How much of that did they get from the Sox?
