E-Rod is bailing Cora out of some of his decisions last night that cost Eovaldi a start.

Cora's decisions have been brilliant until he got to LA. He seems completely unprepared for the NL style games.

Cora probably made his worst mistake as a manager letting E-Rod face Puig.

But then Dave Roberts said 'I'll see you that mistake and raise you one, by bringing in the horrible Ryan Madson in a key situation again!'

Puig was hitting .209 against Lefties this year, that's only reason I think E-Rod was still in. 34 K's in 139 AB's. With only 4 HRS. Edited by OH FOY!

When you have an aggressive manager, you have to accept some bad with all the good. I'll take being up 3 games to 1 at this point.

No question. I love having Cora as our manager.

Cora has managed like a veteran for most of the year. He was the perfect hire for this team.

Cora’s worst mistakes were about half a dozen moves in game 3, including pitching to Puig with first open and Barnes on deck in game 3...

given Puig's splits - it was a calculated risk, but a reasonable one. Rodriguez was terrific - and could very well have escaped trouble if Vasquez just took the forceout and ate the ball. While I could see getting Barnes in to face Puig, it was not an obvious decision.

The game going 750 innings cost Eovaldi a start ... and yet, he might very well be ready to go tonight.

Really, one of the best testaments to Cora's communication ability is how the guys have continually openly volunteered to step a little bit out of their routines and comfort zones to help the team. Price and Eovaldi have been particularly noteworthy, but I have no doubt Porcello and Sale will be ready to take the call tonight.

Madison can be tough, but he seems to be completely out of gas at this point. Probably could say that about many of our guys too. Running on adrenaline. The finish line is near.

Interesting call putting Price in there tonight. What a turnaround it would be for Price if he pitched us into the WS and then pitched us the WS win.

WE know Cora will go for the throat here if possible - I fully expect Eovaldi or Sale to be available for the right situation ... flags fly forever, and the guys have just been great about stepping out of their comfort zones for this

Yup. I think if we have a lead tonight Sale will come in. It would be a risk, but I could definitely see it happening. It might be asking too much of Eovaldi.

I think this is completely in the hands of the players - if Eovaldi does not feel up to it, he won't be available. But Eovaldi, like Price - has shown a remarkable ability to bounce back. Given what a take and rake team the Dodgers are, it will be hard for Price to get deep in this game even if he is pitching well.

I am not one to throw compliments at managers. If you have been on this site for a few years, you know that. Even when we win, I don't hold them in high esteem, but this guy Cora is a special manager. His handling of the pitching staff (except for opening day LOL!!) has been great. The way that he used his starters in relief was something that no other Red Sox manager would have had the guts to do. Even if they had the guts, none of them could have gotten the starters to buy in. There is a lot of ego being a starter, and he had them anxious to pitch out of the pen. Just outstanding!!!

One of my favorite posts. You never seemed too much of a "I love management" kind of guy. i agree with you obviously. Seeing those starters enthusiastically being out in that bullpen gave me a great sense of calm. An all hands on deck approach when it was needed the most.

He makes his decisions based on a raft of information and then backs those calls. He's intelligent, insightful, humble and personable. The perfect personality to manager a team of superstars.

And he doesn’t throw his players under the bus, like Dave Roberts did to Rich Hill...

Yeah, I loved his comments when he said "You guys dug me out of a hole tonight" after he left E-Rod face one more batter. He took responsibility for that. That must feel so good to E-Rod.

Thank you Mr. Cora!

you sir, shall never ever pay for a beer in Boston again.

He's a middle of the road first year Red Sox manager by the standards since 2004 :)

And downright useless if you read any of the game threads.

The last 4 Red Sox first year managers either won the World Series or were named Bobby Valentine. It's a really funny quirk.
