While many big contracts fail from the start, most hurt towards the end of the deals. The JD contract was not long. It was a great deal for us and probably for JD as well.

I think every team that signs a UFA to a long deal accept the back end will hurt - it is whether the front end can make the overall thing a net plus. With Martinez it is a clear yes.

The difference is the JD deal was NOT longterm.

Which is why you cannot make this the norm.

Which, in turn, is why you need a strong farm system.

JD was unlucky that there was only one big payroll suitor. The Sox were bidding against themselves. Most other years he'd have banked way more guaranteed dollars. We lucked out.

Good point. We'll see what happens when he opts out. He'll be two years older.

We have had a run on hamstring injuries. Maybe Devers will be back from his while Swihart is on the Dl with one and now Kinsler may have strained his stealing second. We are getting unlucky with these injuries.

Great game by Porcello. I hope this quiets the doubters for a while.

Great to see we added a new Yankee killer in Pearce.

Great to see Moreland get a couple hits.

Sweep these clowns!

Red Sox medical staff is a JOKE. Red Sox trainers are the punchline...

Can we blame them for Kinsler's hammy too, even though he just got here?

I was thinking exactly what the announcers said' date=' towards the end it felt like a no-hitter. That was one of the best pitching performances I've seen in a while.[/quote']

It was very Greg Maddux. This team is incredible. There’s just one thing I need to see now, which is David Price pitch well against the Yankees.

It was better than a lot of no-hitters. 86 pitches and only 18 balls is insane.

I'm thinking no way we re-sign Porcello in two years. We need his $20M elsewhere.

Then he does this!

No worries Kimmi....all of our top 10 prospect guys are either hurt or suspended. Our farm is in tact.

Agreed. They weren’t barreling a lot up either. JBj had to track a couple of long fly outs but other than that it was weaksauce contact...

How did they mess up his hammy in a few days, is the question.

I can only speculate a couple of things but there could be many reasons.

He was superb last night.

I was a little annoyed id picked the wrong game to see what with Sale due to play Thursday's game and then what actually happened in that game, but last night was perfect. Was an honour watching that pitching performance.

Atmosphere was insane.

We can sweep these. They are there for the taking. Just need Price...

I loved Porcello's reaction after the last out was made.

Nice! I forgot about you being at that game!

That is the exact type of game that I would love to see in person.

Hopefully Price was taking notes. LOL

Me too. It's another example of the "fire & desire" I thought we were lacking last year.

This team is so much fun to watch!

I don't think I've ever seen Porcello get amped up like that was what I was thinking at the time. If I have, I don't remember it.
