Most all the guesses (opinions) that Cora would leave stem from the thought that JH wasn't going to spend on a manager in the $7-$8 million range ( now he has) and AC was going to test the FA market for more money, and maybe a powerhouse team, see LADodgers , when Roberts is fired for failing to win the WS. The opinions on AC leaving were reasonably fact based.

Yes, by our standards, the opinions were well founded.

I had my doubts, too. It wasn't so much about the $7M/yr as it was about Cora's disgust over management's unwillingness to spend on improving the roster he had to use. He has voiced his displeasure and discomfort, several times over the last few years.

I always thought JH & Co. wanted to keep Cora: it was more about Cora knowing many teams would want him and pay him to be "their guy."

Sounds about right. Now they have Cora for 3 more years, but the other part is still up in the air. I mean, just as you said, Paxton is at least as good as Chris Sale, but one arm isn't enough.

It's no secret, I am a huge Cora fan. I'm glad we locked him up.

And there's no one else to call on.

I'd add Luetge to the 40 and give him a shot. He has a .649 OPSA, which is the best with Woo, right now.

I'd take him over...

.693 Shugart (55 IP)

.706 Guerrero (39)

.718 Gambrell (84)

I might give a shout out to Penrod (.718 in 11 IP AAA and .558 in 36 IP at AA)

Is there any word or hope for a Martin or Slaten return?

CBS has these earliest dates:

8/2 Slaten

8/9 Martin

8/23 Hendriks

We can't wait: trade for arms, NOW!
