personally, i was only willing to trade JBj for Giancarlo.

With DD only wanting one bat, I see no reason to move JBJ. You only move JBJ to get a LF and a 1B/DH. It looks like they only want a 1B/DH guy now since they are still stuck with Hanley. Thanks Ben.

That's not true at all.

It's called 'Mandatory Arrest Policy'. I'm sure it ultimately comes down to the assessment of the police officers at the scene.

It will be interesting to see if the Sox re-visit the Abreu talks - and from a value perspective, he is the best option for 1B. And yes, I could see an argument for dealing Chavis and stuff for him.

Think I'd rather go after Ozuna if we're trading prospects.

MA doesn't have a Mandatory Arrest Policy unless there is probably cause that a restraining order has been broken. The officers aren't required to arrest someone just because you called 911.

TN also doesn't have a Mandatory Arrest Policy. It's up to officer discretion.

Given the prospect price, I'd imagine Abreu is lower ... but contractually we are thinking similarly, somebody with arbitration control etc. Ozuna has his 2 arb years coming up and makes $3.5M now. The skinflint Yeah Jeets ownership doesn't have to fire sale him yet.

It doesn't have to go by state. It could go by the law enforcement agency itself. And their policies may differ.

You may remember that I have a pretty big "man crush" on JBJ and always have. I never wanted to trade him but if he was going to have to go the only one I'd be willing to give him up for would have been Stanton.

Again going back to what I heard last night, Tim Neverett said that JBJ is "the most boring outfielder in baseball". He'll make a few spectacular catches but when a ball is hit even into the gap he's always there waiting for the ball to come down and make the catch. Boring. But in a good way.

He did make that one spectacular catch in the triangle this year.

I've always said that JBJ makes catches on balls that would be spectacular if anyone else made them, and gets to balls that nobody else would.

WAR not withstanding - and my feelings about defensive WAR have been documented ad nauseum, I know it's difficult to rank defense but I see JBJ as one of the three best CF's in the AL (I don't see many NL games), and #1 could be any one of the three including JBJ.

Since the other two aren't available I like JBJ in CF for the Sox.

For multiple reasons, our Infield defense isn't spectacular (except at catcher). But our Outfield defense is. Which, to me, is even more reason to keep the status quo with the OF. At least we have that going for us.

He's one of my favorite Sox players. I'm a huge fan of defense, especially up the middle.

IMO, I think UZR/150 does not reflect his true ranking (6th in the last 3 years at +4.9). He's 5th in DRS at +24.

Kiermaier, Pillar, Hamilton and Cain are above him. I have not seen them enough to know who is better.

I think that's the case with most of us. There aren't enough hours in the day to watch the Sox AND every other team and I've already admitted to my 'man crush' on JBJ.

That's why I'll defer to you and revise my thinking to say that "Since the other four aren't available I like JBJ in CF for the Sox". :)

Personally, I haven't seen anyone better than JBJ, but I'm okay with calling him top 5.

No I don't have a link as I have other, more pressing things to do than make a huge issue out of this s***.

I read the same stuff in a few places. I am sure you can find it.

Then perhaps you should refrain from spreading misinformation.

I looked and found nothing.

It's difficult because I've seen Kiermieyer and Pillar make some very good catches but I don't get to see them every day. The thing that JBJ does that I've never seen anyone else do is turn his back on the ball, run to 'the spot' and be waiting for the ball when it comes down. That alone tells me that he may cover more ground in CF than any of the other four.

Or maybe he's just lazy and sprints to 'the spot' so he can take a little break before the ball comes down. :D

Don't be a sanctimonious preacher. The statement issued by the family describes it as a verbal argument.

Even if Spudboy's statement wasn't 100.00% accurate, he certainly wasn't trying to 'spread misinformation'.

This is a baseball message board and a lot of mistakes are made...expecting perfectly reliable information here wouldn't be very bright.

I heart JBj.

that said...pillar made 2 catches last year that i just couldnt believe.

We just need to find a DH or 1B and slide Hanley to the open spot. Next hurdle is finding replacement for Xander or extending him. I don't think we're as desperate as we're making it out to be. My guess is Dustin won't last another 4 years but 2B should be a position easily filled. And I wouldn't give up quite easily on Sam Travis. Sometimes it takes two full years to recover from his type of injury.

It's time for someone from our farm system to step into our rotation. E Rod basically was a gift from the Orioles. I'd like to see the Sox extend Pom right after spring training.

I think Kimmi would approve.

Nice summary.

Maybe HRam does not vest.

I think Pom is a higher priority extension than Bogey.

Re-signing or replacing Sale will be tough AND expensive. He alone will eat up the loss of Pablo's contract.

At least that's Steven Wright's version, according to his attorney. Has anyone seen a police report on the incident?

I trust the system will strive to uncover the truth.

Well what did you really expect his attorney to say?

"Steven punched his wife in the mouth so hard that her teeth bounced across the kitchen floor like Chicklets"?

As you said, something closer to the truth will eventually be uncovered.

That would be malpractice as he would be convicting his client. It would be advisable for him to preface his remarks with a statement such as “Steven denies that” — then he could follow that up with anything such as “he hit his wife so hard that he knocked her into next week.”

Oh boy - I'll say it again though , with our current ownership, I would be very surprised if Wright returns to the Red Sox.

I've been a huge Steven Wright fan since we traded for him back in oh-twelve. (I'm an ex-knuckleballer myself... in softball.) This is so sad.

He has the second most seniority on the team next to Pedey.

I won't be surprised, if he's traded, but he deserves due process.

I agree with you entirely but it just doesn't work that way these days. He will be tried in the court of public opinion. That will be good enough for this ownership.

I don't disagree, and even if his wife denies anything happened, there will always be the doubt that she is protecting him (and possibly herself from further abuse or loss).

There's little chance he's back no matter what happens next.
