And I could see the Yankees acquiring him and having him put up 15 wins.

I think he plays somewhere. GMs saw his first half two seasons ago and will give him a look.

Dombrowski need to find two starters and maybe a relief arm or two and somehow add some offense.

Maybe make quiet moves and go in on Harper next year.

15 wins after the league suspends him for 30 games?

Suspend a player for 30 games with no priors for arguing with his wife?

I bet the charges are dropped. He did not hit anyone.

Whatever.

At this point, how can the public be certain that Steven Wright did not hit anyone?

Boston Herald columnist Michael Silverman suggests the Red Sox sign J.D. Martinez and Eric Hosmer:

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2017/12/silverman_red_sox_need_to_sign_both_eric_hosmer_jd_martinez

I am all for JD Martinez, but I am not sure I like Hosmer enough to pay him that money, he's been alternating between a 4.0ish WAR and 1.0ish WAR the past 4 years. I don't know what player were getting with him.

Arguments get you a disorderly. You don’t get a charge of assault without doing something physical. Prevention of a 911 call is probably the hint. Maybe he didn’t strike her, but maybe he took the phone from her or broke her phone when she said she was going to call 911. Either way, that is usually taken seriously. My guess is she doesn’t cooperate and the charges are dropped. He probably gets a 15 game suspension for being a dope.

In this day and age? I would be really surprised if he is back in Boston.

By using the same logic that says that we use in knowing that he was arrested for "domestic assault" - We saw it online! Has anyone disputed his claim that the alleged assault was nothing more than verbal?

The arrest was for domestic assault and prevention of a 911 call. That entails a little more than just yelling. Like I said, he may not have touched her, but he may have blocked her access to a phone or broken her phone. You also don’t know what was said. Either way, let the process sort itself out. My guess is she’ll drop the charges and he’ll get a nominal suspension from the MLB

My point is that from media accounts the public cannot be certain that Steven Wright did or did not hit his wife.

Police reportedly had probable cause to arrest Wright for domestic assault, which in many jurisdictions requires physical contact. The accused occasionally denies the allegations, sometimes with good reason and sometimes without good reason.

The system should sort out the facts ... or not.

Red Sox Make Jackie Bradley Jr. Available In Trade Talks

By Jeff Todd | December 11, 2017 at 8:32am CDT

The Red Sox are advising rival organizations that they’ll consider dealing away center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). That stance, he notes, is tied to the team’s efforts to add a power bat — presumably, one that would occupy a corner outfield spot and bump Andrew Benintendi into center.

Makes me think signing JD is just around the corner.

No no no - don't misunderstand me and make a statement like that. That is not what I was implying at all.

She was scared enough to want to dial 911. He did something to prevent that call. That's all that really needs to be said.

They can be interested all they want. The question is, who are they giving up? You don’t have the parts in the minors to make this deal happen. You’re going to have to part with something painful

Maybe a three-way trade involving JBJ, but again, I'd rather sign JD and Santana, and if we are going to trade JBJ, get a pitcher for him.

Agreed, assuming all of this is accurate.

What an awful thing to happen- just at a time when we were really counting on Steven. I hope his wife is okay.

Also hope that his kids didn't witness anything. :(

Bradley & Bogaerts & minor league talent to the Orioles for Machado. Or get a third team involved if the Orioles don't want Bradley (they have A.Jones, of course). The Orioles need SP. Yeah, I know, this is a crazy idea--little chance of happening. But this is the kind of guy you should target in a Bradley trade.

My fear: Dombrowski will trade Bradley in a deal for J.Abreu. That would be beyond stupid, but typical of Dombrowski. It would be beyond stupid because the Red Sox can easily find a starting 1b in free agency.

If not for Machado, I would prefer trading Bradley for a rotation upgrade and then use free agency to address 1b and LF (moving Benintendi to CF). I agree with this:

I don't have confidence in Dombrowski, however. I think he is fixated on Abreu and will cave in to the White Sox's asking price. He has caved in every single time and so why not this time as well.

Machado is only signed for one more year. That doesn't make any sense to me.

What has DD actually caved for? He brought in Kimbrel and Sale. Both of those guys have been outstanding.

Trading anything for machado makes little sense, unless he agrees to an extension as part of the deal.

We have the T.Shaw deal, too, Dombrowski basically gave him away for free. As far as the Sale trade goes, I agree with the Fangraphs guy: Dombrowski overpaid. I think Kopech will soon be a dominant ace in the major leagues and Moncada could be a 30-30 guy at second base (with a lot of strikeouts). It just so happens that the Red Sox need a starting 2b and need power. It just so happens that Sale showed some troubling signs last year when he declined in the final month of the season and was a complete disaster in October. Sale was excellent for most of the season, but he wasn't excellent when it mattered most.

True, Machado is only signed for one more season, but that is why he can be acquired--the Orioles are only trading away one season of value (plus the draft picks). If he had three more years on his contract, the Red Sox wouldn't have a chance to acquire him. The Red Sox are big market. I think you acquire him if you can and then worry about signing him later. The Red Sox can sign him long term, that should be the least of their worries.

Shaw and others were not "given away for free."

We got Thornburg in return. His injury was unfortunate but not foreseeable.

His 2.0 WAR in 2016 was the 12th best among all MLB RP'ers. (Kimbrel was 31st at 1.2) Thornburg also had a better xFIP than Kimbel in 2016. His 0.94 WHIP was 14th best in MLN.
