I don't disagree, and even if his wife denies anything happened, there will always be the doubt that she is protecting him (and possibly herself from further abuse or loss).

There's little chance he's back no matter what happens next.

And to play Devil's Advocate, that may be why he didn't want the 911 call to happen, and things escalated from there.

To me, if someone feels threatened enough to want to call 9-1-1 and the person they are afraid of is preventing them from calling, it's almost as bad kidnapping or imprisoning someone, even if physical force is not used.

911 calls are recorded (even though some calls are cut short). I suspect law enforcement responded to something, whether it was a 911 call, a neighbor complaining about noise, suspicious activity while on patrol, or another circumstance.

I hope the investigation arrives at the truth.

If 911 is dialed by accident and person hangs up, they will call back and check on the situation. The protocol is to ask questions and stay on the line long enough to discern whether there is an emergency situation. If she dialed 911 and he hung up and they called back and no one answered, I think they might send a squad car to the location.

That's actually a pretty solid guess, I think. He may have been freaking out at the prospect that a 911 call would cost him his job with the Red Sox. With good cause, as we can see.

None of which exonerates him in the least if what he did constituted an assault, needless to say.

Cubs sign Drew Smyly to $10M/2 with $7M in incentives.

Cubs sign Brandon Morrow to $21M/2 including $3M buyout to 3rd year option.

How many of you would agree to this?

Sign JD Martinez

Trade JBJ for Danny Salazar (CLE wants a lefty bat and both players have 3 arbs left)

Then sign a 1Bman like Morrison and trade Wright for a lefty RP'er.

Didn't know that JD Martinez only hit 8 HRS last year pulling the ball. Most his HRS were to Right and Right Center Field. Fit for Fenway?

I see 18 HRs to the left of the exact CF point and 5 right down the RF line near the Pesky Pole.

No thanks. I like signing Martinez as much as any option we have but I don't want to weaken the biggest strength the Sox have in their outfield.

I also think you're being optimistic if you think any team (other than the Yankees) is now going to bite on Wright this winter.

Where I live, if your 3 year old dials 911 and hangs up, the police come to your house. Not that I know this first hand or anything. ..

We need an Oakland Raiders in baseball.

No chance you can trade Wright for anything. If they are trading JBJ, they need to sign a good glove 1b like Santana.

I'd rather just plop JD at DH and have him only play LF part time. Salazar is a good pitcher, but that's a lateral move at best.

I'd rather keep JBJ as well, but Salazar could be a gem. I'd say he is better than "good".

From 2015-2017 Salazar places....in the AL (400+ IP):

3rd in K/9 (10.6)

12th in WAR (7.8) despite finishing 33rd in IP (a concern area)

10th in xFIP (3.50)

14th in ERA- (89)

17th in ERA (3.79)

15th in WHIP (1.25)

One could argue that being in the top 15 in the AL makes you an "ace".

Hard to be an ace if you've only thrown over 140 innings once in your MLB career.

Pineda gets $2M in 2018 and $8M in 2019- sounds like the Twins are setting up for a 2019 trade.

Maybe. Essentially this is a 1 year/$8M deal with the Twins paying Pineda $2M to rehab.

Yes, that's the...

"concern area"

Yup that's the concern area for me. He's only projected to have 120 innings. At least JBJ can lace them up everyday.

I don't want to trade JBJ, but if we do, I'd prefer Salazar (and sign a 1Bman) over Abreu.

I would hold my nose and agree.

Anybody have any high hopes for 22 year old Ockimey making a splash in late 2018 or 2019?

Josh has 32 HRs in 859 ABs over the last 2 years.

If we sign JD, is signing a 1 year 1Bman a better idea than locking up Santana or Hosmer to 4+ years?i

If you sign JD, you want 1B to be open ... because Martinez is basically a potted plan anywhere else on the diamond. My hopes would be for Chavis ultimately ... I have doubts he can stay at 2B, though the Red Sox are right to at least try it.

Not really. Poor bat tool.
