You have to think something's wrong. You don't DFA 27 HRs and an .815 OPS unless there's more to the story.

What was his arb cost?

Maybe they found out something vile about him. Maybe he is a pedo.

You should try reading some posts on this thread, particularly the ones by cp176...

;)

that would be a waste of time -

Then why DFA him mid-deal?

I think they found no takers but clearly didn't want to pay $6mill-ish for his second half sub-.700 OPS...

Rays are tanking ....how about Archer for an Autographed Papi photo ?

Good one LOL

July 2-4, 2018 - write these dates down on your calendar.

Rays at Marlins for a 3 game series!

What's the over-under on the attendance for these games, I wonder?

I know most or even all teams are facing the same roster crunch, but I'm wondering if there could be a taker out there that would take an out of options player for one with options, even if it's a slight step down for us or a prospect with a higher ceiling, but he might be far away from the bigs. Another option might be to trade 2 out of options players for one. Something like...

Brentz & Johnson for a better 6th starter than Johnson

Swihart & Johnson for a better 6th starter

Brentz or Swihart and Hembree for a better RP'er than Hembree.

Marrero & Brentz for a utility player with an option

It's possible, but I think it would be difficult.

As you mentioned, other teams would be in similar roster crunches.

They designated Corey Dickerson for assignment? is there something wrong with him? That is shocking.

It's a salary dump. The Rays apparently can't afford his $5.95 mil salary. Crazy.

Posted
If he has some awful disease or condition, I would expect Dickerson himself to have a press conference or something. He certainly wouldn't have to, but that would be pretty unprecedented.

It is Tampa, so money is certainly a big part of the problem. ..

It's the Rays. They are going all Marlins on us.

It's a move to shed payroll, nothing else. I think people are reading too much into it.

Eric Hosmer reportedly has agreed to an eight-year contract with the San Diego Padres:

Crazy.

It looks like the Padres caved and upped their previous offer by one year.

Memo to Dave: Stay strong, my man.

It looks like Price is planning on sticking it out through his entire contract.

He also thinks that JD will eventually sign with the Sox.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Olney on @weei says he's talked to people in Nashville and there is no way Price is opting out even with a great year because of his elbow. Says he's come to accept that this winter and he is focused on making the next 5 years in Boston go well.

Also says he fully expects JD Martinez to end up in camp with the Sox eventually.

Says he expects once Boras signals to the Red Sox it's time to push a deal across the finish line the Sox will raise their offer a bit to get it done.

Price is saying the right things this spring. It's encouraging.

One small clarification - I think it's Olney who made those comments about JDM signing with us, not Price.

Dickerson is Left Handed, too bad. Good Player. Numbers so-so against LH Pitchers. Price would be an idiot if he Opts out into that FA Market next year, especially, if Kershaw Opts out. Never get 30 million, never. Edited by OH FOY!

And btw, I think all 29 other teams have submitted the waiver claim.

I've read no report that Corey Dickerson has been placed on waivers.

Dickerson reportedly has been designated for assignment, meaning the Rays have seven days to trade Dickerson, restore him to the Rays roster and place him on waivers.

Eric Hosmer reportedly has agreed to an eight-year contract with the San Diego Padres:

8yrs the first 5yrs at 20 mill per.the next three at 13 mill with a five mill signing bonus for 8 yrs 144 mill.

in early january he turned down a reported 7yr 147 mill deal from the royals....why? " im sure he's trying to get the best deal for clients"

boras doesnt seem to have done that here.

I think the Hosmer deal actually helps the Sox in regards to signing JD. He signed for $20 a year with an opt out after year 5 and is over 2 years younger than JD and has been more durable. Yes JD will fetch more as he should, however if using Hosmer as a comp. I don't think he is worth WAY more. I think $25 a year over 5 years seems like it will be the TOP he will fetch. I think he signs for $23 for 5 years $115mil.

Maybe the 147 mill number wasn't accurate.

Yeah, basically Hosmer signed for $100M and 5 years or $20M per year. And he can't lose either way. If he's still productive then he can get out of 3 years at $13M OR if he's a bust, he gets to collect $13M sitting on the bench for 3 years. I'm pretty sure that's what Boras sold Hosmer on.

Hosmer will be traded in year 2 to either us or someone with a more hitter friendly park ...SD is Siberia for Hosmers bat .Hosmer will be playing for a terrible team and want out after this year ...stupid choice by both agent and player and team for fit. Edited by Natick to NC

No one will want that contract.

Ben Taylor is DFA'd to make room for Nunez.

A name no one considered.

With all the Sox infield depth, one has to wonder what blackmail does Deven Marrero have on Dombrowski. ...

I was hoping the SD signing would stop your Hoze-love rant.

When will this stop?

Yeah, Taylor might have been 5th or 6th on my time for DFA list. Maybe this shows just how close the bottom of out roster is to each other in value.

Maybe our next signing is going to be a RP'er.

MAYBEOU, r next signing is going to be a RP'er.

Unless it's a fairly big impact reliever (Holland?), it might not be worth it as it will only add to and not solve roster crunch issues...

Yeah it's my last post about Hosmer until he inevitably comes here....only after SD eating half his contract .

Hosmer isn't coming here. Ever been to San Diego? Trust me; he's staying put for 8 years. ....

Yup front load the crap out of it with 3rd year opt out .....many may hate the this but gets it done 27 27 27 opt out clause 25 24 ....total value. 130 gets a damn good power hitter on Ortiz level for 3 years with escalating salaries after next year .....this deal will be looking very good .What we need is 40 plus HR for 3 Maybe 116 to 120 RBi with a 270 ish BA ....keep the man happy with playing LF a few times a month but never RF at Fenway ....need to protect this player from himself ....he's the bat that will Replace Ortiz .
