fister will deseredly get a lot of praise for last nights great start but i also wanted to give a shout out for our quiet man, Jackie Bradley Junior.

JBJ is a quiet guy but I see him as having immense pride in his work which has allowed him to develop into one of the best all-time outfielders the Sox have ever had. He is paid $3.6 million this year and is with the team until 2021 and is eligible for Arbitration for the rest of his contract. He is still only reaching the peak of his career and through his efforts he continues to improve himself. He is a sneaky good athlete who makes tough plays look easy and makes nearly impossible plays fairly often. Like last night, he was giving his all when he injured his thumb. I hope it won't be too bad as we will need him back in the fold.

I have been around for most of the great Red Sox center fielders (except for Tris Speaker) and have never seen anyone better defensively. The great ones, Fred Lynn, Dom Dimaggio, Jimmy Piersall, Coco Crisp, Jacoby Ellsbury and of course Tris Speaker were never better defensively. Hard to compare offensively, since they played in different eras but overall, JBJ ranks up there among the top 5 all time. I hope we can keep him in a Sox uniform for his entire career.

Very well said.

It's hard, for some, to handle the long slumps he's had in his career, but when the season is done, he ends up with pretty consistently good offensive numbers to go along with his exceptional defense.

Last 3 year's OPS

.832 2015

.835 2016

.775 2017

I'm not sure any other Sox player has been within .060 in each of the last 3 years.

Inconsistent but consistent offensively.

Always great defensively.

JBJ is bigger priority for me than Xander. I like him better than Beni. Betts is the only one ahead of him. Obviously Devers too but he won't be arbitration eligible until 2021.

I'm not counting ERod, Beni & Devers (all with 4 or more yrs of control)...

Top Priority Extensions or re-signs:

1. Betts/Sale tied

3. JBJ

4. Bogey/Pom tied (yeah, I said it)

6. Kimbrel

News Flash... (No mention of possibly adding Brentz)

Red Sox Designate Steve Selsky, Could Be On Verge Of Acquiring Outfielder

By Steve Adams | August 23, 2017 at 5:18pm CDT

The Red Sox will designate first baseman/outfielder Steve Selsky, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). Rosenthal adds that the Red Sox may be on the verge of a trade, but president of baseball ops Dave Dombrowski refused comment on the matter.

Notably, the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo tweeted recently that the Sox “appear” to be on the verge of adding someone via trade or waiver claim, so Selsky’s DFA would clear a 40-man roster spot to facilitate such a move. Rosenthal tweets that the move is “likely” for an outfielder.

Selsky, 28, received just nine plate appearances with the Red Sox this offseason and has struggled through Triple-A as well. Despite a strong track record at that level in the Reds organization prior to the 2017 season, Selsky has posted a disappointing .215/.270/.360 batting line with 11 homers and 10 doubles through 322 plate appearances. That’s a far cry from the solid .280/.353/.469 that he slashed in Triple-A last year as well as the strong .314/.340/.471 line he posted through 54 PAs in his Major League debut with Cincinnati in 2016.

It looks like you just got Rajai Davis from the A's, JBJ injury might be more serious than initially reported

Is a .230 hitter what the Sox need right now? Not sure I see the point unless, as you suggest, that they think JBJ's injury is bad. I thought what was reported today was that there was no break or tear.

(OK. Just explained on NESN--FO had been looking at him for a couple of weeks.)

1) Speed

2) Defense

3) Can play all 3 outfield positions.....yeah so can Holt. but I'm close to Holt than to Davis

4) Offense has picked up since All Star break.

Maybe Brentz had something to say about by-passing him for the Davis trade:

2 HRs tonight!

Now has 30 on the year!

Gotta be frustrating for Brentz. I have to wonder if they talk to him at all about why things like this are happening.

If they did, he responded to disappointment very well.

I think that's kinda my point. If they told him not to give up and that he still fits in their plans it may have motivated him tonight.

Awesome win!

27 Ks in total tonight.

I was beginning to wonder about Nunez...

Pom with another gem, despite the 100+ pitches in just 5.1 IP.

We're hitting way more HRs now. Still way down in the league, but showing signs of reaching respectability with power.

Love wins like this- team effort all the way.

...or, if they said nothing, and he just heard the news and reacted accordingly.

Yep. Either is a possibility. That's why I was wondering if they'd spoken to him.

30 HRs.

The top Sox guy doesn't even have 20.

19 HRam

18 Beni

18 Betts

15 Moreland

14 JBJ

10 Nunez (2teams)

8 Devers

DD gets a lot of credit for signing Nunez. He continues to be a very dangerous guy who wins games for us. We need to keep him in the lineup when Pedey gets back.

Hanley on the other hand looked pathetic tonight. Hard to understand what gives with him. Kluber is good but Hanley was bad, no other way to sugar coat it.

I thought JF took Pom out at the right time. Pom had begun to have control issues with many balls missing high or very high. With a freesh BP and a narrow lead, the time to remove a starter is when he shows signs of weakening. Good job, setting up our hitters to continue to apply pressure to the Cleveland pitching staff. Holding Cleveland to 2 runs over two games is a major accomplishment.

DD traded for Nunez, but you're right.

Agreed. JF has done a very fine job with the staff, despite all the injuries.

He was a fine pitching coach a while back.

I like the general roster but would find it difficult to leave Nunez on the bench. He's a servicable fielder and also one of the teams best hitters if not the best. I struggle with the idea of Hanley playing over Nunez.

As far as RP's, your takinng a leap of faith on Smith. Maybe he will work out but we have to see some evidence to put him in. He has the talent if he is right Price is an unknown at this point as well. If he was healthy then okay but that remains a big if. Would he pitch in relief? We don't really need 5 starting pitchers in the Playoffs. I don't think Barnes is a good choice, and now he is on the DL I would leave him off. Hembree might be okay so will there be one of our younger guys on the 40 man who could fill the job.?
