So Devers will 'develop' by sitting on the bench? If he doesn't start, they need to send him back. But in truth, after seeing more detail about the players treatment of Eck, and seeing how some of my once favorite players were involved, for the first time in over 60 years of following the RS, I woke up glad to discover that they had lost last night, and I hope Price gets shelled tomorrow.

I get that he adds depth, and he should probably start at third. But why pump up Devers, promote him, then replace him during his debut?

Unless I can see something different that makes sense, i really just see it as a move to give us something coming off the bench that could help us offensively. I also think that Bogaerts recent injuries probably helped to lead to the making of this move.

After Devers runs his stats to 0-fer and strands a couple more runners in scoring position today, they'll send him back down.

Nunez is replacing Marrero, that's all. I thought they already indicated Devers was going to start out getting most of his AB's against RHP.

yep....I don't get the confusion. Instead of Holt/Marrero platoon, now its Devers/Nunez. Most starters are right handed. Devers will get plenty of looks. Nunez may not be any good as some have suggested but he's better than Marrero.

Doesn't confuse me at all. He provides us with an upgrade over Holt, Marrero, and Lin. He is a utility player.

He develops by taking fielding reps before the game and being around MLB guys. His bat is there. The only development he needs is more work at 3B. You get more reps during practice than during a game.

Ya they said this last night during the game the Red Sox got him. He is a very talented player. At this rate I will do anything to change it up. We are headed nowhere fast with this offense. Will be interesting to see what he can produce for us. This second half is an absolute mess.

This exactly.

The guy is 20 years old and although looked pretty calm and relaxed last night it will do him some good to practice and develop with this team. Starting Nunez is definitely the right call. With how awful this team has looked since the All Star break it's no surprise there has been some trades and shakeups. Start Nunez and see what happens. He produced well for San Fran.

I hope Management don't take the platoon route with Devers, let him face Lefties. He needs as much time for him to catch up to the speed of the Majors. Mentally. If he is not going to play every day, send him down. Every day precious for a 20 year old. Edited by OH FOY!

Eduardo Nuñez plays amazing defense in whatever position he is placed. Red Sox are getting a great guy and player

Debatable...

Pedro needs to put down the crack pipe.

Way better than Marrero or Holt. He'll probably play 3B against lefties, and can pinch run late in games.

Way better?

I'm not opposed to this move, but I would say it's a marginal upgrade.

I don't love it, but Anderson probably isn't a huge loss and nobody seems to know anything about the other guy.

Hard to believe this is the only thing coming. It sounds like we'll still probably add a reliever, but a 1B type bat like Alonzo could really help this offense, too.

The Sox supposedly have $5.6 mil left to spend without going over the luxury cap. I'm guessing we'll be getting a reliever.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Sox said Bogey's hand is no good and he needs some rest, and Nunez fills in for him

Agreed. Bogaerts needs a breather. He is not right. I think a 10 day DL stint would do him some good.

These are exactly the same things people were saying when Benintendi was called up. Devers is just going to be eased into things a little as Benintendi was.

Panic move.

I don't see it happening, but if the Sox send Devers back down right away, that would be the stupidest series of decisions ever.

Nunez is not being added to the roster until Friday, BTW.

Good Trade, gave up very little for him. Anderson, is so-so, and any 17 year old who's been in the DSL for 2 years, anybody's guess.

Devers isn't going to be sent down, Kimmi. Nunez is replacing Marrero, don't you think?

Yes, that would be my guess. As I said, I don't see Devers being sent down, just that it would be very stupid if he were.

My guess is that Nunez will give spell Bogaerts more than he does Devers for the time being.

Imagine in 75 if the Sox eased Lynn in just because he's facing Lefties. Let him play. Too much babying, only way you learn. He can hit Lefties. Benni made a lot of fundamental mistakes since he's been up. You need playing time. Bench doesn't help.

For me simple if you have to be eased into the Majors, you shouldn't be here. Cup of Coffee I understand.

I'm just saying let's not jump to conclusions on how Devers will be used. I'm sure they'd like nothing better than for him to be playing every day and raking much sooner than later.

Which in my opinion is a bit unfortunate. I don't think there is any problems with the pitching on this team. Every game we have had since the All Star break has been winnable if our offense produces. But such as life.

They said from the start that Devers will play vs RHPs. I don't think acquiring Nunez changes that.

I think i might be the only poster who likes this trade:o

I like it. I'd also like to see us get a big bat 1Bman, as long as we don't have to part with Devers, Mata or Groome.

I didn't get the impression DD was "pumping up" Devers. I thought he was trying to lower people's expectations.

I have no problem with the trade. I think it's a good depth/insurance move, which I'm always a fan of. :) But I don't think it's much of an upgrade over what we already have.

Yeah i don't think DD is done yet. ( Is Justin Bour a possibilty? Or is that a bridge too far? ). I sure hope DD isn't showcasing Devers. That would be madness.
