When you lose fifty hands at a black jack table, it's time to move to another table.

I've been very supportive of DD but this is f***ING NUTS.

I hope we get shut out from now on. Things changed when we brought in Devers and Nunez. Sorry DD. You will be holding your dick waiting for Young, Xander and Betts to come out of slump.

BA and HRs.

Here are the HRs trends by some of our best hitters.

Betts: 5> 18> 31> 18

HRam: 13> 19> 30> 22

JBJ: 10> 26> 14

Bogey: 7> 21> 8

Pedey 12> 15> 6

For these 5 hitters our HRs from 2016 to 2017 went from...

123 to 68.

We're on pace for about 75-80.

The Sox are playing like an exhausted team with little belief in themselves. Beni was 0-7 last night. Bradley didn't hit. Guys who you wouldn't expect to disappear seem to be doing just that. The pitching against them wasn't that good. So what can be done? Beats me at this point.

I don't get it either. We have the youngest Sox team in years and years. No hitter is over 33. We shouldn't be looking tired, but I agree we do.

Good thing we called up all those players from AAA. We needed them all last night.

I do not know if they are tired but I know several are playing injured. Pedroia, Hanley, bogey, Bradley, etc.

True, but every team plays with and through injuries.

Now Beni is 0-18 since Sept 3rd and benefitted from a sit down for a day or two just recently. Can't blame it on nightlife as every night the Sox play late. Maybe we need to sit him again and get him back to where he was.

It makes me curious why one our youngest teams in memory needs so much rest.

Some call it rest, others call it sitting a rookie who's slumping.

Fair enough.

I still think the modern player is babied too much.

There are more games these days and there is more travel involved. Maybe all of this accumulates during the season and wears on the guys physically and on their minds as well. It helps to have positive vibes in the clubhouse. Teams like Cleveland and the Diamondbacks seem to have overcome the same number of games and the same amount of travel and are prospering. Maybe they have a better clubhouse attitude or maybe they are just more talented.

I've only followed baseball from the late 60's and the 162 game schedule was present then.

We've had a lot of days off since the all star game, and the allstar break is longer than ever.

I can see needing to gibe Pedey a break, but not 22-24 year olds.

I get the sitting for slump argument, but these youngsters should not look or be tired.

Meh. All this talk of looking tired to me is in the eye of the beholder. To me losing feeds on itself. Lousy hitting feeds on itself. All you need are a couple of nice wins to return to the right frame of mind and look energetic as all get out.

Today, Sep 7, the Sox have two terrific wins under their belts. The 19 inning jobber took a lot effort by a lot of players. Our former main man Betts had two crucial doubles that led to all 3 runs. ERod had a quality start--surprise, surprise--and the bullpen was incredible. In the 11th inning JBJ saved the game with a throw for the ages, nailing Bautista at the plate for a double play and out of the inning. In the 19th Betts doubled, and took it on himself to be aggressive on a soft fly to CF which conceivably could have been caught. Game over. Congrats to HanRAm for the single and rbi.

Last night Fister was Fister and JBJ had that great 3 run dinger to go with nice rbi's by Bogaerts, who tripled, and Devers, who had two solid hits. Devers and Bogaerts both also made nifty throws in I think the 2d inning. This sure didn't look like a bunch of disheartened losers to me. Heck, I'm seeing a pretty decent pulse and am very encouraged.

Rest today and 3 vs. the Rays this weekend, about which I'm feeling pretty good.

If the Sox go just 11-11 against a pretty favorable 22 game schedule, they have 90 wins, and they are 6-4 in their last 10.

The Guardians scare the heck out of me, but Kimmi insists anything can happen in the postseason. Job one is to get there, and right now that looks very likely. If we go 11-11, the Yankees have to go 16-8 just to tie, and they are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Hmmm...we're 4 games ahead, so if the Yankees pick up 5 games on us the rest of the way...no, I don't think that would be good.

Rap music? ... they still make that?... Where can I get it?

All it takes is two games and your mood flips 180 degrees.

Did you see how excited everyone was after JBJ's 3-run blast?

I didn't.

There's a thing called "google". I heard it helps you find things on the internets.

Naw. Still having trouble. Are you sure? All's I'm seeing is Hip-Hop still.

Heck, yes, it flips. That's why I keep applauding your steadfastness. I love over-reacting, including during games. Last night I unfairly hammered Farrell for challenging a call in the bottom of the 4th when it was raining, the game was in hand, and I was worried about getting it in the books, meaning getting 3 outs in the top of the 5th. Turns out Farrell did no such thing, so I said that on three separate posts.

No, I didn't see the players reactions to JBJ's dinger. Are you saying they didn't (much)?

Back to the two games. I love making a big deal of them precisely because I was so darn negative about the 10-4 loss and the Yankees series. My snivelling excuse is that it is in fact late in the season, every game counts, the Yankees looked like a freight train about to run us over, etc.

On one of these threads today I cited our actual position and that we only need to go 11-11 in the remaining games to make it very tough for the Yankees to catch us. In the same post I gave you due credit for maintaining something like that all along. Kimmi too. I just didn't see it until these two wins. Heck, last night I even saw Devers and Bogaerts make two nifty throws on close plays at first. Plus Bogie's triple and Devers two clean singles. Earth-shattering. I mean we're talking dogs and cats living together. I was just delighted to see a real pulse in this presumed cadaver (my presumption) called the Sox.

Hardly any rejoicing or energy at all after JB's HR.

It was like he was coming back to the dugout after a sac fly in a 10-0 game.

Could be you're right, but this was after a 19 inning, 6 hour monster of a game. Let's also not forget those two nifty throws, Devers 2 clean singles, and Bogaerts triple. Maybe the appearance of low energy is a good sign.

Speaking of low energy, have you noticed that lately Beni is totally disinterested in stealing bases, etc. Part of that is low OBP, of course, but he has been on first with 2b open--several times, I think. Not a nibble. he's learned his lesson. Better to take no risks at all than be branded a dumkopf. He would make Daniel Nava so proud--someone to carry on the tradition of risk-free baserunning.

I wouldn't have even brought it up. I didn't think it was any big deal. I've already made my point about my perception that we have been lacking "fire and desire".

I only brought up the team's reaction to JBJ's big HR as a response to this...

"...All you need are a couple of nice wins to return to the right frame of mind and look energetic as all get out. ...

...This sure didn't look like a bunch of disheartened losers to me. Heck, I'm seeing a pretty decent pulse ...

I'm not upset over the lack of energy, especially after the 19 inning night before, but I will respond to anyone trying to make it sound like this team is jacked-up with excitement.

Excitement doesn't win games, thankfully.

It's been a season long pattern, in my opinion.

What's been a season long pattern?

Lack of energy, excitement, or as I called it, "fire and desire". We look lackluster.

(Note: you don't need "fire" to win, but "desire" helps. I also realize that this has just been my own personal perception.)

This and the lack of fundamentals are my two major points against JF. I don't have any big beefs with his in-game decisions, and although his line-ups are not what I would create, we've scored about as much as we could expect with all but Vaz in serious decline from last year.

Is it a lack of fire or a lack of joy on this team. I think that most of the players have a lot of desire, but I really don't think they have a lot of joy. Losing Ortiz was not just losing a big bat, but losing it's soul in many ways. He was the heartbeat of the clubhouse. Maybe that is what we are seeing.
