At a minor league game, where I was attempting to explain the basics of the game to a non-fan, the first two plays: (1) catcher interference (2) baserunner called out when hit by batted ball.

I like a strong throw for a put-out at the plate. From the outfield.

I saw a strange play a couple of years ago. Johnny Ghomes caught a fly ball in left and ran in and tagged second for an unassisted DP.

That was odd.

Complete game shutout - an increasingly rare but still achievable feat.

I'm with you, and even more so, a perfect game. There is nothing better than a well-pitched, well-defended game. I enjoy it when a pitcher can make a batter's knees buckle or make a batter look silly with a great pitch. I could also go with the 10 strikeout game.

baserunner interference - batter getting hit by a thrown ball while going outside of the allowed baseline area while running to first base and actually being called out.

Look at my avitar and username and ask yourself what my favorite play could be. :-)

Yep. I love those "big arms". My favorite play is to see someone throw a strike from deep in the outfield to nail a runner coming home OR a SS throw a rocket from deep, deep in the hole to get a runner who was obviously going to get an infield hit.

In fact, I saw that late in the last ST game of the season here when a SS on the Nat's made a throw like that to nail a Sox player. I don't remember their names - by that time it was all low-minors guys in the game. I'd never heard of either one of them before and probably never will again but that SS had a great arm!

I look to something that I know I could never do. I'm not a pitcher whatsoever, so I'd say a no hitter/perfect game.

Great defense from the SS position has always held a big place in my heart.

Great defense - period. As I mentioned above, I love a well-pitched, well-defended game. Give me a pitcher's duel over a slugfest any day of the week. Chicks do not dig the long ball!

Walk-off HR.....by a pitcher. 1986 was the last time it happened.

Interestingly, 1986 was also the last time Halley's Comet was visible from Earth.

Coincidence? I think not!

Unassisted triple play. There have been even less of those than there have been perfect games.

The last one was in 2009. Don't hold your breath waiting for the next one. It happened exactly once between 1927 and 1992.

When was the last time a pitcher even came to bat in that situation? We've been in the era of pinch hitting for relief pitchers for as long as I can remember.

Unassisted triple play

Perfect game or no hitter

Inside the park HR

Yankees being beat by 20 runs

It's not rare, but I love a good pitcher's duel too. Everything on a knife edge, first one to blink loses. Way more drama than a slugfest.

I might change my answer to Yankees being beaten by 20 runs.

Ya! How did that not make the list of choices?

I voted 10+ strikeouts, although it would feel more impressive or rare if the option was for 15+. Not much beats watching a truly overpowering pitching performance for me. (Looking at you, Mr. Sale...)

I'm with you Jack.

Wasn't there a play where the ball was hit back to the pitcher, and he couldn't get the ball out of his glove, so he threw the glove and ball to first base? That was cool.

The exploding bird pitch is always cool.

But, I'd say stealing home is always super cool to watch.
