Even the chickens take a break from riding donkeys in the DR when their team is playing a game in the WBC.

Now that is natinal pride.

The MLB is our league. There's one Canadian team, otherwise, it's an American league. The national pride is more regional for us. The DR, Italy, the Netherlands, PR, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela etc don't have teams. They root for players and the one time they have a national team, they'll unite behind it. As an American, all I care about is that one of the guys on my team doesn't get hurt.

If after the playoffs you are going to have players s*** down for a month. If during the season you will have to shut games down for 3 weeks, so playoffs will go way into November. No perfect time.

UN?, it's an exhibition tournament with guys who aren't in full swing yet. I'd rather it be concurrent or after the playoffs.

I'll take my baseball whichever way I can get it.

I had no rooting interest in the game, but when Cruz hit that homerun it was like a game 7 of the World Series, cannot ask for a better game. Very exciting. Another great game today.

And then there was the USA versus Canada game. {yawn}

However, most of the games I've see have had a playoff atmosphere.

What is the protest going on between Venezuela and Mexico? I don't know all the tie breaker rules well enough.

There are some tie breaker games on tonight. Should be exciting.

Not sure the exact tie breaker rules, but I think it comes down to runs allowed per inning, originally they had Mexico with the tiebreaker, but I believe Venezuela protested that in the ninth inning in Mexicos game against Italy that they did not retire anybody so it did not count as an inning. Which gave Venezuela the tiebreaker over Mexico. Might not be the exact explanation, but close.

Thanks for the explanation. All I saw was a blurb about Mexico protesting and Adrian Gonzalez saying that he would not participate in the WBC anymore, which would be a shame to not play for that reason.

I don't think Venezuela protested - they thought they were out until someone told them in the locker room they were still in (insert Godfather III reference).

Mexico's protest was the wording of "partial inning" in the tie breaker rules. They were saying the 5 runs they served up to Italy should count as a partial inning, but as Fisk correctly states and all good scorers know, you have to retire someone to be credited with 1/3 inning pitched. Had they done that, they would be still in. But that's what you get for sending Oliver Freaking Perez out there in a 9th inning jam.

I have watched some games, and they have been fun. It's a shame that Mexico is out. The loss against Italy was heartbreaking. It cost us the pass to the next round.

IMO the tournament has improved. IMO RD and PR have the best teams.

Last time Canada did this bad was Jason Bay's 0-fer in the HR Derby.

Ya let's just say Baseball isn't exactly Canada's sport lol. They really should just stick to hockey haha

Thank you for the clarification.

I am glad that the Sox took the decision out of ERod's hands.

In last night's WBC game between Venezuela and the USA, Seattle starters Felix Hernandez and Drew Smyly combined for 9.2 innings, no earned runs, six hits (all singles), 11 strikeouts and no walks:

Small sample, but an encouraging small sample.

Watching the game now, even though I already know the outcome. Team USA just tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the 8th.

Good pitching by both King Felix and Smyly.
