Apparently, Thornburg was not damaged goods when we got him. He messed up on our winter instructions and hurt himself.

Considering DD's track record, I'm not sure I buy that.

One could maybe blame the DD administration for not making sure Thornburg understood what he was supposed to do.

At least Miley sucked after the Carson Smith trade, so it probably wasn't much of a loss, however, keeping Miley might have prevented the Espi-Pom deal.

Good point...

But I still think the Miley trade was the correct one. He was at best middle of the road starting pitcher. It is unbelievable that every pitcher we've acquired seem to have some injury issues.

Except you know who and I will just shut UP.

He would have been in the Sale trade. We'd still have Kopech probably, but I don't see him as a SP.

Abad is healthy, but it might not make much difference if he was or not..

Miley was actually our most consistent "wire-to-wire" starter in 2015. I had wished we'd have kept him, but I was fine with the trade, assuming Smith was healthy, of course.

Some guys have to step up is what it comes down to.

Some GM's just need to step up and make a good trade once in a while and not go for damaged goods is what it comes down to.

Yup.

We still have 4 years of control on Carson Smith.

That's what really tips the scales towards the likelihood of it being a good trade.

I had hoped Elias would be our 7th or 8th starter, but so far he's been a dud. (He's got 5 more years of team control though.)

He will be back in a few weeks to early to call Elias a dud. Had a bad year last year, but prior to that had been a serviceable 5th starter.

Agreed. That's why I said "so far".

I really liked the trade for Smith. Hopefully, he will come back in June and pitch lights out for us.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Theo land, Koji is pitching rather well.

Moon, I was actually referring to Sale.....I just didn't want to jinx him....now I've done it.

Yeah, I knew you were, but I thought I'd mention "the other" healthy one.

Sox up 6-0 after top half of 1st....Betts and Bradley jr both homers. Rutledge looks to have come out for a pinch hitter. Not sure if he's hurt going from 1st to 3rd.

This one is in the bag. Wright is pitching. I don't give him enough credit. He's good when he's got it going. No one really wants to screw up his swing hitting against him.

I have a feeling we'll see Kendrick early, like in April.

Wright gets out of bases loaded jam in bottom of second. Two walks.....usually his achilles heel. 3 clean innings now. 12 innings and no runs given up.

Wright went 4 innings and 41 pitches last time out. See where he ends up today.

Gee another good news....Rutledge with pulled hamstring....let's just not play anymore games.

Putting Rutledge on the DL would not hurt our team. It's one way to keep the depth and allow Marco a chance to shine at the big level.

Fantastic update. He seems to have a lot of nice movement. Plus the super scary slo-mo was entertaining.

I believe they talked about this appearance on their last podcast. Good stuff!

I'd be happy if he turned into Mark Buehrle. He seems to have a little more heat though.

I think he was only touching 91 with his fastball. This is great if he can locate it, but unless he develops more velocity, which is entirely possible at his age, he is going to have to pitch like Buehrle or Maddox to be effective. Lots of time to develop.....

He is still only 18 until August, I'm going to guess there will be some uptick with his velocity.

There's a difference between never showing 95 and having done so previously and this being his first outing. Understand, the sox brass will be VERY concerned if his velo settles out at 90-92. It won't. He'll get back to his velo capability
