He was running pregames during the series in Oakland. The thing is timing at the plate, he won't have any rehab games to take practice swings. But with 3 weeks left, he should have enough ABs to get back into it.

They are having him take some swings against Owens in a some what of an organized pick-up game at Fenway Park.. If all goes well, which is very likely, I think he could be back in the line up THURS/ FRI.....Tanaka is pitching Thursday for the Yankees so they could hold off until Friday.

i heart HanRam. i am happy he proved most wrong with his dedication and solid play at 1b.

his bat and carefree attitude are fantastic and very much remind me of our beloved Manny. keep on keeping them loose HanRam.

Farrell needs to realize that some guys can actually hit the same side pitcher. Benni has looked good vs LHP. Overall better than JBJ I think..the smart move would have been to PH Young for JBJ vs Layne making Girardi swith pitchers one batter earlier. lets face it, Aaron f***ing Hill strikes fear in exactly zero pitchers, LH or RH, which is why bLayne was left in to face Hill. Young would have forced Girardi to switch. then Benni is up so he would have to go to a lesser LHP since they already used their main LH guy Layne...I just dont understand why Farrell doesnt see this. Girardi schooled his ass last night...Farrell got lucky Young was barely HBP and Betences was off his game because those first two PH moves by Farrell were absolutely ass backwards! the guy is clueless how to manage a game.

Did you post this in every thread? I'll say it again here, Girardi could not have taken Layne out one batter earlier. He just came in and is required to face one batter.

Benni is back!!! Im sure he will get the bulk of ABs vs RHP and YOung will continue to torch LHP

I suggested on another thread that I think Betts needs a breather. I know this is crunch time, but we need him back in "form". It would also be a way to keep Young and Beni in the line-up for another day or two.

One play involving Beni occurred last night that drew comment from the announcer. With Beni on 2nd, the ball was hit in front of him to the SS. The announcer was saying Beni made a mistake by not taking third on the play. I still play softball at my advanced age and my understanding is that a player should not try to advance a base when the ball is hit in front of them, unless when forced to do so. No one was on first on the play, so I believe Beni made the right play by not trying to advance.

That was the same type play Beni got hurt on!

i think it was a closer call than Remy said. But with a little more experience, that read comes - the play was in front of him, but Gregorius was not in a position to get the ball and try to get him at 3rd. But the way the ball was hit, Benintendi could have easily been fooled. He thought the ball was hit deeper than it was. Remy is right here - but I don't blame Benintendi for the read.

That was exactly my thought at the time. That he may have been able to go to 3rd on that play, but I don't blame him for not trying.

it is one of those cases where Remy was right - but I don't think Benintendi was wrong - if that makes sense. That is a read you have to make right away - but the way the ball was hit, I don't blame Benintendi from being fooled.

And even if he wasn't fooled he'd be completely within his rights to say, "Oh no! I tried that once before and it didn't work out all that well! :( "

Young started tonight against a RH pitcher and generally didn't do much. I thought they would start Beni in those cases so maybe JF is bringing Beni in slowly because Young has looked so good of late (until tonight). Since Sabbathia will start one of the Yankee games, Beni will probably start the other.

Probably seeing how it reacted after playing a game. It would 't surprise me to see another play one sit one before they go to 2/3 etc. and then more full time duty if it's holding up. The last thing you want to do is lose him completely by overdoing it. Edited by illinoisredsox

I would like to get him as many reps as possible before the playoffs, but Young needs reps too, so they should give Betts a blow later in the week as long as we maintain our lead.

Beni had good at bats tonight and looks like a major leaguer. The double and the walk were good and the other at bats he hit the ball. Good composure for a kid that young in experience.

There is nothing about that kid's game that I don't like.

Beni needs to get some more abs. If that knee is ok he needs to be in there vs every RHP and i wouldnt be hesitant to keep him in vs LHP too...kids a ballplayer.

It's a difficult decision. We're in tough pennant race and trying to win every game, and while we'd like to rest either or both of JBJ and Mookie, their defense alone makes it tough to do. In last night's game both of them made plays that probably swung the outcome of the game.

100%. Win the division and they can have a couple days off prior to the ALDS starting. ;)

I trust they know what they are doing as far as How his knee is feeling. Like I said, IF that knee is good enough to not worry he should be in there.

Good thing is we have opened up a nice lead in the division and can afford to bring him back slowly just to be safe.

To me this lead is tenuous. Maybe I've been a Sox fan too long, but to me a 'nice lead' is a lead that's bigger than the number of games we're going to be playing against our next opponent. I want to know that we're going to leave every series and still be in first place. THAT is a nice lead. :)

I'm with you. I'm thinking OK, we can only be down by 1 game to the Orioles if we lose all 4. I can't help myself. Ugh.

There is a very strong incentive to win the division (like not trusting your season to 1 game) - so that has to be the goal.
