Considering the angst around here, who is the most at fault for the uninspiring start to the season?

You can choose multiple options if need be.

To me, the FO should have known that the rotation would be unreliable. I have to give them the most blame.

I agree. They get the blame -- almost all of it. Farrell gets the remainder. I answered the wrong question. The rotation is the reason for the poor start, but the FO gets the blame for the poor rotation.

I think Farrell will manage himself out of a job sooner than later.

1. Starting Pitching 75%

2. Starting Pitching 20%

3. Starting Pitching 5%

For all the hemming and hawing about Farrell (some deserved, and some I've done) they are on a 926 run pace, which would be 35 more runs than the Jays last year (and the Jays were the only team to score 770 runs). No starter has gotten through the 7th inning. The bullpen has not been good, yes - but they are being asked to lift way way too much right now. There have been struggles at catcher, but the defense has largely been pretty good - it would be hard to put much of the run prevention issues on them.

This is how I feel.

The poor performance of the rotation so far should not surprise anyone. Especially the FO since they sanctified it for two years.

I believe the blame for the slow start belongs to the slow start. Seriously, we are quite literally not even 2% into the season. It's still quite early to be throwing around blame. Price had one good start and one not-so-good one. Buchholz had one bad and one not-so-bad-could-have-been-worse. The Sox came up against a team that was already 5-0 going into the series. Maybe we'll have to revisit this conversation in late May or early June, but right now I am less concerned about this than I am about pretty much anything else.

We're over 4% into the season!!!

I'll mark you down as "other."

You're right of course. SSS does prevail - after all they have a homerun/flyball rate which is almost double that of the worst team last season. But how can the internet subsist without SSS based hot takes? Come on in!

Everyone just needs to R-E-L-A-X. We've got 154 games left after tonight.

But, if I had to say, I'd choose starting pitching.

Hopefully everybody realizes that it is a long season. I don't see this as being as much about panic as it is about just being stupid and believing that the same old refrain is going to produce different results. I am guilty of expecting more out of Buchholz and Kelly than they can give. To all of sudden think that buchholz would morph into a durable starter as well as being able to pitch like he has on rare occasions in his career and to believe all the crap about Kelly and his wonderful potential. When E-rod went down we lost our #2 and Kelly should be in the bullpen. Ultimately Dombrowski can and probably will do what needs to be done to get us the pieces needed to make this a very good starting rotation. The but is that there will be plenty of screaming when everybody's bright young star (pick one or two) gets traded. In his case it would be stupid to not make the necessary trades based on the fact that there are only so many positions on a baseball field.

Ultimately the only patience or panic that matters is in the front office. Fans can do whatever the hell they want. We're not the brightest bulbs, otherwise we wouldn't be investing half our time watching and yapping about a kid's game.

true - but it's still fun though isn't it. Personally , I never really grew up and I still don't want to.

Fun is what it's all about. It's great entertainment, and that's why the talent is making such outrageous money.

Way too early to throw blame around and way too early to panic.

Unfortunately, I think the FO is doing just that. The whole "sense of urgency" thing has translated into a lack of patience, aka "panic". Things may work out, but seriously, I don't know what they are thinking. They have me shaking my head right now.

CHERINGTONS FAULT

But really it's the starters mostly. I tend to forget our possibly 2nd best starter is on the DL right now, so it'll improve. Not gonna panic yet

If it's anyone's fault, it would be Dombrowski's. Or Henry's. Whoever is making the roster decisions, so my guess is Dombrowski with Henry's blessing. So yeah, both of them.

For better or worse, and even though a big part of the blame goes towards the top of the FO who you can be sure were the catalysts for the Panda deal, a lot of the blame for this roster being a clusterf*** goes to Ben. Rusney and the Lester/Lackey trades fall square on his shoulders as GM. Like with Pablo, stop making excuses for him.

Just as it was Ben's when he was in charge.
