I wish I could probe deeper into this issue, but I'm pooped.

Like Bartolo Colon after a workout, or like Uranus when it found out it was no longer a planet?

I'm gassed too, tomorrow I'll get knee deep into the issue.

Boooo you ruined it, it was Pluto that was declassified by the IAU.

I know I know, and it was reclassified too, but I needed a Uranus joke to keep the chain going.

"The media"? I saw McAdam and there was nothing eventful regarding Hanley other than some ribbing from Pedroia. Other than that, it's mostly been pieces about his dropping weight. Stick to being a doctor please.

Sorry Bud but I was thinking of starting a thread about how Pablo is being murdered by the media in the Boston area. Jacko is correct. Pablo f***ed up showing up to camp still looking porky and then making questionable comments in the locker room interview.

In Boston we get to see all the Sports report on the news, and all the Sports re-cap type shows every evening and late at night. Then there are the fabulously dim radio talk shows.

Without exception, they have all painted Pablo and to a slightly lesser degree Hanley in a very poor light.

It's getting next to brutal. But it has been predictable.

As an example, tonight on Comcast Sportsnet Hanley was being discussed. Lou Merloni said he watched Hanley "work" most of the day. He said Hanley has not taken early work or late work on 1st base play and has not done much other that hover around first catching throws from infielders. Not footwork, no positional practice, etc.

Merloni was incensed.

This is just one of about 7-8 such diatribes I saw today regarding the two suspects.

These two guys have really dug holes for themselves.

I think Hanley will continue to skate for the most part because we all know that he can be such an offensive weapon and that the DH spot awaits him.

Pablo is in real trouble. His image started to slide when he dissed the Giants and their players on his way out the door. Texting while taking a dump during a game was not such a pleasant image for him. He sucked major donkey dicks both at third and at the plate and somehow seems to think that "It's baseball". "Just ups and downs".

No you stupid fat f*** its Boston where you are one of the highest paid players and you have to cowboy up and produce.

He will have to have a "HUGE" season to come back from the beating of his image that he so richly deserves.

A lot lesser degree. And Pablo deserves the flak he's getting.

Without a doubt.

Hanley should be given a little slack, Pablo is just eating himself out of the league.

I'll bet you really wrecked 'em the first time you told that joke.

Merloni is a former big league infielder who played for the Red Sox. I think his evaluations should stand up compared to other media members since he actually wore the uniform and laced up the spikes

Except that he's a dingleberry.

He never had to evaluate players professionally

Anyways, back on track. Am I the only one who is completely unconcerned about Sandoval's weight?

It would have been nice if Pablo showed up to camp a little thinner, but the bottom line is going to be whether he performs or not. If he performs, no one will care that he's fat. He didn't perform last year, and so he is taking all kinds of criticism for being fat, despite the fact that he's been fat his entire career.

FTR, Dombrowski is not concerned. He has said that the team sent someone to check on him regularly throughout the offseason and that they were pleased with how hard Pablo worked. He apparently is about 20-25 pounds lighter than he was at the end of the season last year. The Sox will have him on a conditioning program throughout the season.

Dombrowski does not seem like the type to enable Pablo. If he says he's not concerned with Pablo's condition, then I believe that he's not concerned.

Dombrowski behind Sandoval "100 percent"

‘Not disappointed’ in Sandoval’s weight

Jason Mastrodonato Tuesday, February 23, 2016

FORT MYERS — Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski was still the general manager of the Detroit Tigers when the Sox signed Pablo Sandoval to a five-year, $95 million contract last winter, so his reputation hasn’t been on the line when it comes to Sandoval’s performance in Boston.

But Dombrowski is now standing up for Sandoval amid the controversy surrounding the third baseman’s weight when he reported to camp Sunday.

“I will tell you, I can 100 percent back him as far as the hard work he put in this wintertime, because he
really has done a good job in that regard,” Dombrowski told the Herald yesterday. “And he’s continued to be committed to doing that.”

Dombrowski is still trying to get the most out of the third baseman, which is why he administered what he called a “constant flow” of team officials visiting him throughout the offseason.

Even though the first round of photos taken of Sandoval from spring training aren’t doing the third baseman any favors, Dombrowski said the team is pleased with his physical shape.

“From our perspective, it’s more of a positive,” Dombrowski said. “If you were thinking he was going to be svelte, it’s not going to happen.

“He’s always been (heavy) like that. And he’s not the only player throughout his career in which that has happened. That’s just him. It’s one of those things where people look at an individual and if they’re performing well they look at it and they say, ‘Well, that’s just how he is.’ And if he’s not performing well they look at it and they blame the conditioning aspect of it. I’ve seen that with other players. I understand that’s how it works. But that’s pretty much going to be him.”

Sandoval is listed at 5-foot-11, 265 pounds on the Red Sox’ website. After posting the worst offensive numbers of his career while playing an unimpressive third base last season, his first with the Sox, the team asked him to come into camp in “better shape.”

Dombrowski thinks he has done that.

Sandoval took ground balls and made throws from third base yesterday for the first time this spring. Dombrowski has been happy with what he’s seen.

“In the drills he’s done, he’s moved really well,” Dombrowski said.

Dombrowski said Sandoval is also working with a nutritionist, but insisted he won’t be judged on his shape.

“He’s a player that’s been on the heavy side,” Dombrowski said. “I mean, that’s been his whole career. So that’s not unusual in his situation.

“For me, I’m not disappointed because all winter long we have monitored his workout situation. He’s worked out very hard this wintertime. Anyone who said he hasn’t done that, that wouldn’t be accurate. . . . He’s worked extremely hard, he’s just in one of those situations where he doesn’t have a sculpted shape. He never has.

“There’s a reason why they call him Panda.”

This is what the media does. No one should be surprised that they are running wild with Pablo and Hanley stories. While both players give us reason for concern, the media is making them both much bigger issues than they need to be, and the fans are eating it up. Good grief.

Bigger issues than they need to be? These guys were two of the worst position players in all of MLB last year, but paid like MVP candidates.

Even when he performed he was not elite, apart from in the playoffs. His weight, even when performing, is a hindrance, so add that to non-performance and of course he's gonna hear it.
