Cliff Lee is done. I wonder if that makes it more or less likely that Hamels gets traded.

Some were betting going after Lee, it was a terrible idea in the first place considering his age, contract attached to him and healthy concerns. As I said it was a looooooong shot. Regarding Hamels, it could be possible, but these days and as long as I know NY, Tor could be pushing and only God knows who else is in the mix.

I don't remember any of us advocating to acquire a non-healthy Lee.

In fact, I seem to recall that those among us who liked the idea stressed that Lee would have to be proven healthy in ST before a deal should be considered.

Whatever.

I think that he is toast and should consider retiring. Why bother with surgery just to come back at age 38?

That's the thing. Some were betting in taking that risk (health thing) which I found out temerario at the time.

Agree. It doesn't make sense to have a surgery at 38. He's done anyways.

I should clarify my last comment about Lee.

It is possible to have TJS and bounce back at 37-38 and provide production. I assume someone here will post a list of players who have done it.

I just think that at that age surgery and rehab would sound even more unappetizing. It's one thing to go through all that if a large chunk of your projected career remains in front of you ( as with players say, 19-30 or so ). It really has to suck at 36 or 37.

Lee should pack it in because that is what I would do! ;)

Lee has more or less said that this injury will mark the end of his career. I don't think he has plans on coming back.

What about managers and coaches choking under pressure? Grady Little, Pete Carroll?

I don't know about the managers choking under pressure, but I do know that managers do not win the close games for their teams. In other words, they can't be considered clutch. :D

Obviously a manager's moves in certain situations can lead to either a win or a loss. Whether their decisions are good or bad, all depends on your personal perspective. I will say that there are and have been some managers I would feel more confident with in game winning or game losing situations.

I have always felt that a manager's biggest impact on a team is with his off field contributions - how he handles the players, the clubhouse, and the media. I think that has more of an impact on the team's wins/losses than the in game decisions do. I'm not saying that a manager can't and hasn't made either a very bad or very good in game call that has affected the outcome of the game, but I think in the majority of the situations, most calls are rather straightforward.

My main point was really about giving a manager too much credit in one run wins or losses. The outcome of those games is more the result of randomness than anything the manager does.

Just wait till you check out the game threads, Kimmi. Almost every game there will be at least one move or non-move by Farrell that someone thinks is idiotic. :)

That's true, actually.

What has happened to Juggernuts?

I wish the two of you would make peace, seriously.

I'm at peace. I was just curious. Not a lot of sarcasm there either. Just a touch.

Or working, either or. Also, CP needs to get the sand out of his vagina, so we may need a very big shovel.

That's called escalation, man. I learned about it in marriage counseling.

Come on - I do miss him. The sand I've accumulated over the years ain't comin out with no shovel either. Didn't take much to get you back on here. You do a pullup yet?

He has been a source of entertainment for me all winter. And, it has been a long winter. I've been back home here in northern New England now just long enough to know that it isn't where I want to be at this time of year.

LOL, I imagine.

The "Games That 'Francoma' Has Cost the Team" threads were always a ton of laughs.

I will say that I think Farrell overused the sac bunt last year. We'll have to see if he continues down that path this season.

I think he's busy trying to quantify clutch or something or other.

You can't quantify what doesn't exist.

I've been busy with my Jets posts... ;-)

I'll pretend that I didn't read that you are a Jets fan. ;-)

But football season is over! It's time for some baseball!

Barring injury or trade, it looks more and more like Castillo is going to be the odd man out when the Sox break camp.

Probably the best thing in the long run. Getting more ABs at AAA. Betts is off to a good start and was going to win the CF job anyway.

It is early but it is starting to look like Mookie is the real deal. A very tough out. Also becoming an excellent fielder. If this is who he is, and I think it is, he won't be going anywhere. He will be in centerfield for Boston for a long time. Creates all kinds of issues. Good ones I guess.

It probably is the best thing in the long run. Before ST started, I was sure that Betts would be the one sent down, mainly because of Castillo's contract. Betts has made it very difficult for anyone not to want him leading off for the Sox. Plus Farrell is apparently in love with him. Castillo's injury isn't helping his cause either, not that it would likely have mattered either way.

I am really excited about Mookie, but I'm trying to keep my expectations in check. He's still very young and has a lot of learning to do at this level. Of course we all hope he lives up to the expectations, but remember we heard the same kind of hype regarding Bogaerts last season, and we quickly learned that Bogaerts is only human.
