  1. I'll enjoy baseball a hell of a lot of the Sox can take this series.
  2. Wonder if Kimbrell will be available after all the pitches he threw last night.
  3. Thanks, Spud, it has been a while.......
  4. Dang, flu making it's way around again?
  5. ...and there's always the drunken idiot trying to cross your stream.......
  6. I guess my only trepidation with this trade is the possibility that we'll be starting 4 left-handers in the rotation (Price, Sale, Pomerantz and E-Rod, assuming the last 2 beat out Wright). That would be somewhat unusual, no?
  7. I like the move. DD had no reason to keep Buch, he wasn't a DD 'guy' and he probably just said, 'Here is a guy who is inconsistent, injury-prone and doesn't battle when he doesn't have his A+ stuff - why exactly am I keeping him and his salary?'. Now we have 3 guys battling for 2 spots in the rotation - Wright, Pomeranz and Rodriguez. With Owens and Johnson in AAA for depth. Clay would probably fare better in the NL anyway, with zero expectations in Philly. But I do pity him for the fans there.... Dan D
  8. Talking about Mitch Moreland now, to be LH DH/1B.... I really like both deals DD has done - solid reliever to add to a really hard-throwing bullpen with Kelly, Smith and Kimbrel and a #1/2 starter.... Wow
  9. Was disappointed to see Holliday sign with Yankees. I thought he would have been a good fit. Could play a little first base, too, to give Hanley a break. Apparently they are still in on Encarnacion, and just heard on radio that Toronto may have pulled their offer for him - so maybe he comes cheap as the market seems to be drying up. But not in favor of a long-term deal for him. Would rather see them pick up someone on a short deal if possible because, frankly, the DH spot will be Hanley's in a year or two, I believe. Wonder where Joey Bats is in all of this?
  10. Overall, I'm satisfied with DD. Agree re: Chapman and Miller, no way we were going to get them. Re: Price, I'm willing to wait anther year before calling it a bust or mistake. I think some of what he went through was typical 'trying to live up to a huge contract in a new tough market and male everyone like you'. I think he will be better next year. And he didn't totally suck, he did pitch 230 innings and win 17 games, including 7 in a row in August and September.
  11. Are we interested? http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/06/08/kansas-city-royals-considering-trading-yordano-ventura
  12. Shulman is ok, but I can't stand Aaron Boone - and not just because of the homer. I just don't think he is any good. Book is still out on Mendoza, I do find it weird to hear a female talking about esoteric baseball topics. Can't wait until she has to talk about someone getting a groin pull or hit in the cojones....
  13. 2 separate issues here. One is that MLB has banned him from the game, which is fine. The other is the HOF rule that anyone on MLB's ineligible list, is therefore ineligible to be in the HOF. That should change. MLB can continue to ban him and I'm fine with that. But I think he belongs in the HOF. If only to see his wife at the induction ceremony..... https://usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/pete-rose-kiana-kim.jpg?w=1000 I haven't made up my mind on the PED guys yet, but do think that Mike Piazza should be in....
  14. Hopefully Vasquez can catch him a little better than Swihart.....
  15. Only at heart..... But I don't recall that scenario. It does seem typically Boggs, though. I have no issue with the Sox retiring his number and am frankly glad they are no longer wedded to their original criteria of the player having to have spent their entire career with the Sox. When you mention Boggs' name, you immediately identify him as a member of the Sox, no other team, and that's good enough for me.
  16. What's the issue with the Devil Rays cap? He's wearing a Sox cap in the HOF.....
  17. I think with Vasquez behind the plate, the Sox are very strong up the middle. Pedroia makes up for his (slightly) lessening range by positioning, a la Jeter for the last 5 years, while Bogaerts will only improve. Hard to believe he is still only 23.
  18. This reminds me of the boys in our Boy Scout troop and their review of the food at a particular summer camp - 'it's terrible and they don't give us enough!'
  19. Too early for me to tell, but I agree with this sentiment in terms of his approach. No screwing around. No dithering. Determine your needs and fill them. I like it.
  20. Miley definitely grew on me, especially last year when there was a definitely lack of toughness in the rotation. But Price sets the tone now, and hopefully his toughness and fire will rub off on guys like Clay, Porcello and Kelly. But the bullpen is looking pretty spiffy now, and to think that the Sox are mostly done before the winter meetings wrap up.... Now maybe just a cherry to put on top. I do like the roster that Pete Abraham posted on his FB page this am. https://www.facebook.com/peter.abraham.globe/?fref=nf
  21. Here is what I said back on Page 20 - Is Cueto an ace? I'm not sure..... I will say Price. Love to see the 'welcome' text from Big Papi on that one.....
  22. I'm not sure he's earned the right to decide where he pitches....! But personally, based on his 2H last year, where he went 8-1 with a 3.77 ERA, I'd rather see him start the year in the rotation, see if he can continue in that fashion.
  23. Hey, now.....
  24. Well, he's pretty much dominated in the AL East over the years. His .647 winning percentage against the Sox is the lowest against AL East teams - 6.50 vs Yankees, .667 vs Orioles and .889 vs Jays. And I don't recall the Ray as having crazy-good bullpens all those years - certainly not KC-like.
  25. Sox sign Price, 7/$217.....
