Pirates and DBacks are front runners for Brian Wilson. I hope the Sox get in on this. Wilson pitched for teams Thursday and i didnt see the Sox mentioned in watching that session. I hope they get in on him. Maybe this is an under the radar move from Ben.

If it's not for top prospects it be worth it. Having Lee let's them shop another SP this off season as well. It's a lot of money tho. At least it would be short term. I'm gonna have to see the names in the package going to Philly before I could totally jump on a deal for those two.

I will personally campaign for the "Cherington's Head on A Stick Bandwagon" if we give in to Philly's asking price for Lee. I'd be okay with taking on his money, it is only 3 years, but if Amaro expects significant talent in return, he can just go f*** himself as far as I'm concerned.

I think I'd be worried about the payroll going forward but as a whole I'd be ok with the deal. At most I'd give up would be someone like Ranaudo, paired with say Middlebrooks/Workman/Marrero/Brentz/Britton like prospects among which the Phillies can decide who they prefer. I wouldn't send all of those players, I just mean that level of prospect.

I'm sure most other members here would hate the deal though.

I think every seller's asking price is a "go f*** yourself" at this point. Who knows what the Thornton for Jacobs trade started as.

I can see a lot of backlash towards such a move but I think it would be preferable to giving up top prospects. I don't think I'd like having to pay all of the money like the Dodgers did when they bailed us out last year but I'd be willing to eat a large bit of it if it meant holding on to our top minor league talent. I think it's an easier decision when you consider that we'd only be paying Lee for 3 seasons.

I could live with that, I suppose. Those are some good names right there but losing them is insanely more preferable than seeing Garin, JBJ, Webster, or Xander in another uniform.

Yes and hopefully teams asking price will go way down in the next 48 hrs and a move gets made without moving the farm.

Rays just added Jesse Crain to their bullpen. Hes on his way back from the DL, teams in the divison are making moves and the Sox are staying put so far. But i think it will change.

Apparently ChiSox has decided to hold onto Peavy.

Sounds like a cry for attention and a pathetic attempt to justify their high prices imo.

Sad to see Crain go to the Rays, and the Braves get down. Hopefully there's a reliever left for us.

Part of me wants to believe that it's a ploy and the other half is reminding me never to underestimate the stupidity of MLB executives.

From MLBTradeRumors.com:

•An executive from a team interested in Peavy tells Joel Sherman of the New York Post that Peavy wants to be traded. While Peavy enjoys the White Sox, he knows they're rebuilding and wants to play for a contender (Twitter link).

•The Athletics have moved on from Peavy and will focus on other upgrades such as their bullpen and middle infield, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). The A's will dangle some of the players they would have offered for Peavy as they pursue other upgrades. Rosenthal adds that Chicago's desire to receive quality prospects and shed the remaining $20MM or so on Peavy's contract "remains a significant obstacle."

•The White Sox are telling interested parties that they're planning to keep Peavy and build around him, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. As Olney goes on to note, this could just be a ploy by the White Sox to increase their leverage in Peavy trade talks (Twitter links).[/QUOTE]

This is why i hate the CWS and they wont ever go anywhere.

I honestly believe he gets moved sometime tonite. They wanted to move him before his start tomorrow so tonite makes sense if he goes anywhere.

Reports on multiple teams give the impression that GMs don't want to pay the price, AND give the prospects. I'd say he still gets traded, but if they have to either pay another team to take him, or get middling prospects in return, why bother? It probably makes sense from their organization's standpoint.

Good for the CWS. Unless they are realistic about Peavy they can choke on him for all I care. Maybe the Sox could sneak in and get him for something reasonable instead of something ridiculous. I think the CWS statement is good news. Probably means teams are not willing to pay and are backing off leaving the WS to stew about just keeping him or getting realistic about the price.

Only thing I like about Peavy is that he would likely allow the Sox to move somebody to the pen taking care of one of the pen arms they need. Other than that, Peavy is a pass for me.

From MLBTR -

An NL executive that has recently spoken with Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News that he thinks Lee will be dealt (Twitter link). That executive chose Boston as the likely destination. Martino is careful to note that it's "informed speculation" on the executive's behalf, as opposed to something that Amaro came out and said directly.

Please oh please oh please oh please!!

If Kenny Williams was still the boss in Chicago I'd fully believe the latter.

We get it, you want Lee.

So I'm not allowed to update with new info from MLBTR?

Yes, but the "ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease" is not necessary. It's built into everything you post about Lee. :)

Anyone seen anything from a credible source on this yet? Like I said in the other thread all I've seen is tweets from a guy from some no name blog.
