... And even if Madson had failed for us, those 3.5 would have been symbolic given our long list of overpaid busts in the last 4 yrs.

I wonder if this is the kind of deal Brian Wilson will get.

What is more expensive for a closer-- 3.5 million, or 4 million and a cost controlled 30 HR, gold glove winning right fielder? Madson is only making 3 million above league minimum, that's definitely worth a risk for the Angels.

This.

Good question. I don't think so. My guess he's getting a lot more, reason why I think Angels made a good move with this contract.

Madson had some free will here. He did not want to go to Cincinnati because he knew they might revert back to Chapman as a closer. He surely realized Boston might opt to go with Bailey as closer. The Angels were the safest fit for him.

The argument against Fred's Red Sox loyalty should be pretty much over. He's said on many occasions that it took him a few years of jumping to different teams, and it finally stuck. Since he's been behind the Red Sox through 2011/2012, I believe that it will continue to stick... assuming that Ben stops napping:lol:

I really appreciate you Palodios for watching my back on this one. Nothing gets my Italian up more than someone questioning my devotion to the Red Sox. It was 12 years of it on last August 19th and I will die a Red Sox fan and be buried in a Red Sox casket. That has already been decided by my wife and me. Still I resent what SCM Gullibiliovich said because he proved to me to be a willing tool and naive flunky for a few scumbacks who tried to cause me trouble five years ago. And SCM is actually a police officer. Hard to believe a gullible person like that could be a law enforcement officer.

Anyway, thank you again Palodios and you too MVP for being my conscience. Now let's put this crap behind us and just concentrate on baseball. Do you thin Ben will finally wake up now.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I mean if we're looking for bullpen help, I think I'd rather take Wilson over Madson, if Wilson doesn't resign with the giants at least.

Well first off you never really know how a guy is going to come out of TJ. What Madson's numbers where may not matter all that much.

I know we are a pretty disgruntled group at the moment but just as it was when discussing Paps a year ago, there is much to fix before we start worrying about who is closing to the point of adding Madson to our list of grievances.

Lets not forget how far removed we are from where the Angels are today. At some number it might have been a nice flyer to take but really at the end of the day Madson is a distraction for us. Oh boy another bullpen guy....

However I do think it is the kind of deal the Sox have to be looking at...guys that are a risk but that can be had cheaply are a way different deal than guys that are a risk that the Sox pay a fortune for. So if we were talking about a starting pitcher with a good track record with some risk associated by way of surgery or some other element but that came cheaply I would be really pissed if the Sox missed that kind of opportunity. So insert that sort of starting pitcher where Madson just was and the Sox need to be all over that sort of deal.

We missed a couple of starting pitcher deals pretty much like that last year and regretted it. Did not jump at Oswalt and his back problems and that turned out to be the right move. I think there is a difference between a guy coming off surgery and a guy with a chronic problem that is serious, debilitating when it is in bloom and not going away.

A little advice, you need to get over whatever happened 5 years ago with you DodgerBlues and TalkSox. Also, a Sox casket is an incredible waste of money.

We agreed that I wouldn't question your fanhood if you stopped calling people polyannas. Unfortunately for you, I've counted two such instances since then. Nothing gets my English/French/Irish/Scottish/German up more than someone who can't keep up their end of a deal. Maybe I was just being a Gullibilovitch for thinking you'd control yourself. Anyway, spend less time posting about other people and your devotion to the Sox and maybe people would take you seriously.

I have nothing against you Fred, just chill out.

I'm guessing if they sign a post-op late inning guy it will be Wilson. He's a New England guy, will be ready a little later in the season(nice mid season add to the BP) and I think his whole deal would be entertaining to watch :D( I don't see SF tendering him a contract. So he will be a FA)

Yeah, that might be interesting. But as for being a New England guy...he lives in LA and has said he'd like to stay where it's nice and warm...and he wishes they all could be California girls.

If the Angels are really shopping Walden the Sox should check in. Not sure what they have to match up? Aceves and Salty(not even sure if they need a C?) for Walden +? idk.

Dude had a 11.1 K/9 last season. Bard, Walden, Bailey, Morales(if he's not starting) would be a solid back end IMO. Add in a Brian Wilson for mid season insurance and the BP would look promising.

That's true, but I think he would fit well into Boston as well. But I can't blame the guy for wanting to stay out West :D

The Royals are "calling everyone" in an attempt to trade both Luke Hochevar and Bruce Chen, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports (on Twitter). The team is accelerating its timetable to acquire rotation help and wants to free up money.

I'd take Hochevar as an add on in a Myers deal.

Detroit is rumored to be shopping Porcello. He's also someone that's worth a look. Not sure what Detroit is looking for.

Talk about being critical and negative, you are criticizing a persons choice of final arrangements based on economic grounds? I don't think he'll have much use for the money after he is dead.

Just to be clear a reference to polyannishness is not by itself a direct insult to anyone.

Seriously a700, I've posted like 5 actual baseball/Red Sox related posts in an effort to get the thread back to baseball, and you lead this morning with this?

Oh, I guess you missed the post criticizing someone's plans for final arrangements. Otherwise you would have directed your post to him... Right?

No just saying you could have ignored a stupid comment and got back to talking about the Sox. In the end its why we all come here right? :dunno:

Seriously man, when the conversation got to Red Sox casket it was time to move on and steer the thread back towards Red Sox off season topics.

Yep, and you should have pointed it out t the person who made it an issue. I can do this all day if you like.

I would not be surprised if Wilson got more money just to stay in SF. He is a crowd favorite out there. While I don't think that will have the kind of impact that it did with Ortiz back here, I still think SF will see value in what Wilson brings to the table beyond just the raw stats and will try to make it attractive for him to stay. Certainly all things taken into consideration stats and draw for the fans it should push what they offer well past what Madson got from the Angels.

No because I took my own advice and chose to ignore that topic and tried to get back on subject. You chose to come and, skim over the new posts and proceeded to go back off topic instead of discussing the baseball related topics that had been brought up. That was a choice you made.

^ This is taking your own advice. I don't see baseball in this post.
