I'd like to respond to this, but I know nothing about candy stores in Brooklyn. Can you really sell enough of that s*** to make a nice profit? I think most of the candy stores around where I live are just fronts for dope dealers.
 Yes, they were able to support their families and put their kids through college. This was before the days when there was Lotto.

Ben had a bundle of money, and just picked the low hanging available fruit. He was lucky Napoli had issues, so he doesn't have to pay him FA money for 3 years. Vic looks like he's become injury prone, and is a poor risk for 3 years at big money. The emergence of Nava and Bradley has changed the OF situation, and made Vic look expendable. You can argue about Dempster, but he isn't a $13 mil pitcher in this division at his age. A 4th or 5th starter. Plus there's a chance he will block a prospect. Gomes is a nice backup, though he's playing a lot less for the salary they paid him. Hanrahan and Bailey look like failures at this point.Hanrahan gone. Bard's career may be over. Once the top setup guy in the league.

Lackey has been an unexpected gift. Probably their top starter right now.

The one thing the FO does well is draft. They have exceptional players developing, but the roster is still filled with expensive veterans on the downside soaking up salary. The prospects need more opportunities.

What do you mean by low hanging fruit? There were a lot cheaper players available and a lot more expensive "sure-thing" players available. Cherington took the middle road and most of his moves have worked out well.

Based on where the Sox sit at the half way point you have to save most of the moves made by B.C. this past off season have turned out pretty well. Remember many thought this was going to be a bridge year for the Sox until the youth was ready to take over.

We thought that it was going to be a jumping off of a bridge year.

Yes, but no worse than the average GM. I have a very low opinion of GMs and field managers.

Let's forget about field managers for now. I'm genuinely curious as to why you have formed such a low opinion of GM's. I don't see any of them as great geniuses, but I don't see where most of them are dunces, either.

SoxSport, it really is amazing that you can dish out all that criticism to management and somehow glide obliviously past the fact that the team has the best record in the league after winning 69 games last year.

I find it equally amazing that you and a few others can pile on SoxSport for saying things you don't want to hear. Well jumping on him doesn't make what he said any less true. For instance, Dempster is NOT worth $13 million and may most likely block a pitching prospect in a year or so. Victorino IS injury prone and may be a sunk cost in two years. Bard IS done and those who disagree are whistling past the graveyard.

Also keep in mind that, yes, we are in first place, but we were also in first place on September 1, 2011 when he began our historic collapse predicted by someone too modest to say. We've played pretty well for a team with holes and problems but if they don't get fixed we could see a demise---maybe, maybe not.

I'm going to suggest to SoxSport that he puts his two or three antagonists on ignore. I've been told by two of my friends here that two posters still like to rip me but because I have them on ignore, no problem.

Well you can rest easy Bellhorn. The candy store of my and Ted's youth are no more. Most of these new candy stores tell groceries, sandwiches and bottled soft drinks. There are no more soda fountains anywhere in the city save for one that I know of.....The Lexington Candy Shop near 84th and Lexington. Hinch's on Fifth Avenue in the Bauy Ridge section of Brooklyn closed shop last year. I head there might be one at the Broadway merger in Brooklyn but I don't know for sure.

So Dempster isn't worth 13 million when he hasn't pitched half a season? Nonsense like this is why people pile on SoxSport, and in this case, you as well. The rest of this post is also nonsense.

It gets tiring when someone does nothing but whine about the team/FO with zero objective analysis. Obviously there have been some blunders (Hanrahan, Salty, Mortensen, etc) but come the f*** on, cut the crap.

The only reason you think the post is nonsense is because you don't agree with it, and you don't agree with it because it hits you in the ribs because you don't like to hear anything negative about the team, the front office or the manager. No, I don't think that right now Dempster was worth $1 million AND HE MAY BLOCK SOME YOUNG PITCHING PROSPECT BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT YEAR. You call it whining because of your ridiculous defense of everything and anything the front office does. For God's sake, have a mind of your own once in awhile. Do you really think it is nonsense when I say Bard is through? How about a $100.00 wager that he will never be a winning pitcher again for the Red Sox. That's what I believe; challenge me, take the bet. You most certainly won't.

Victorino is injury prone and could very well be a sunk cost in two years while he blocks Brentz, a good young RH hitting power hitter who happens to play right field. You mention some of the blunders, reluctantly I'm sure, but how about mentioning Melancon and now Bailey. How about letting Cody Ross walk and replacing him with John Gomes who is a weaker and inferior player and who currently riding the pine because he isn't playing worth s***. Tell you what, if you are hurt, angered or frustrated by what I write, do yourself a favor and put me on ignore. Then you can focus only on those who play the party line of see no evil, speak no evil and hear none uttered in your presence.

Jeez I really don't see how the Dempster deal looks bad in retrospect, at least not based on half a season. There was not much to choose from out there and if the Sox had gone big ticket and long on term with just about anybody we would likely be skewering them something royal even now.

I just think it is really difficult these days to find a guy that you are going to short pay that is going to be a solid part of your rotation. Dempster may not be more than that but he is that. It is only a two year deal as well. So there is the length of contract penalty to consider as well. Plus and lastly I don't think people are jumping on Soxsport and I don't think Soxsport is wrong either. Dempster is overpaid. So is every other starting pitcher that is not downright horrible. Heck even some that are downright horrible are overpaid.

I only saw him disagreeing with your point about Dempster. As do I. As I have mentioned to others before, stating something as fact does not make it fact. Dempster may very well be worth 13 million by the end of the season. He is pitching very well at the moment and I see no reason to believe he won't continue pitching well for the rest of the season. The problem UN and I and others have with you is not the fact that you constantly berate the FO and the management and other fans for every single tiny thing, it's that it's all you do. I cannot for the life of me remember a single positive post that didn't directly relate to a game that was being played at the time. The Sox have the best record in the American League after an embarrassing 2012 season that saw them finish well under .500. I get the sense that the Sox could go 161-1 and you would still log onto TS only to berate whatever player didn't get a hit in the one loss. Being realistic or critical of a team is one thing, but many people are well and truly sick of listening to absolutely nothing but ripping on the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are a great team right now, on pace for the postseason. By all means, criticize things if you feel you need to, but try something else once in a while.

And sex with Derek Jeter.

Imagine how many women would be jealous though. I wonder if the transitive property would apply and you can convince them that having sex with the guy who had sex with Jeter is like having sex with Jeter directly.

I hear sexual diseases have all kind of transitive properties.

It seems to me like Ital wants some Jeter weiner.

I tried very hard to word my thought without implying that I'd want to sleep with Jeter.

Although if it got me a piece of all the women he slept with....
