Even if I did overreact (I didn't), I didn't throw around any personal insults. I'd tell you to knock it off, but you'd just get offended most likely. :thumbdown:blink::(<_ src="//d1mqtyoopj0gsc.cloudfront.net/emoticons/default_cool.png" alt="B)">:lol:
You not over-reacted, but you misinterpreted too.

Maybe there will be another great discussion like the one about D.C.'s market. By the way, they went to the post season for the first time since the '30s and they finished 9th out of 16 teams in attendance. It looks like star players and winning didn't help all that much. The last place Rockies and the 101 loss Cubs had better attendance.

Geez... I remember that discussion... took like a week or something and some midnights

Nevertheless I liked Nats last season. Next season they will be a very exciting team IMO, mostly with a healthy Strasburg.

You guys need to go out dinner, order a nice bottle of wine or two. Maybe some champagne, if you have a little extra cash. Head back to a hotel, watch a nice movie and then throw a few into each other and get out the angst.

Sounds very romantic.

Now there's a good question.

Preface----The u is prqctically gone from my keyboard so please bear with me till I can get a new keyboard.

If we are comparing Cody Ross with Johnny Gomes, the cheap shot artist, it's Ross by a mile IMO. We may still sign Cody yet or he is asking more than our sddenly cheap skate ownership wants to pay---or maybe he is asking for too mch. The point is we got a replacement for a possible departing Red Sox player bt we didn't get a better one, we got a lesser one. You can't bild a winning team that way. And where are the pitchers we need?

The trick is to copy a u and paste it in when necessary.

Only if you bring that sexy P90X physique of yours and play doctor. I'll turn my head and cough for you sweet cheeks!

I am surprised and disappointed by the Gomes signing. I don't understand how he fits the design of the team. He is so one dimensional. He is a poor fielding right handed platoon player. And why was he signed for two years?

I don't think he is a replacement for Ross since he is a left fielder and would be a disaster in Fenway's right field.

I think the Sox set a value on the resigning of Cody Ross and he asked for more. Ross was brought into Boston as a platoon player and played a lot more then that because of all the injuries. I don't think he would be receptive to less playing time in a platoon situation. Gomes was brought in to platoon and has excepted that role. Gomes will give you the power that Ross did, but you probably lose a little with the glove (An Ross was no gold glover). Remember Ellsbury is in center and covers a lot of territory. With that said I think the Sox loss a little if Gomes was signed to replace Ross, but it might balance itself out if the Sox bring in up grades at 1B and the other outfield position.

Red Sox outfield: they have Gomes now to platoon with Nava in LF. In CF they have Ellsbury, Kalish backing up. RF is the only unclear spot, unless they have Kalish or maybe a platoon with Ross. Or maybe they succeed in getting Hamilton, who would play RF. I don't see any other FAs in the picture. It's either Ross or Hamilton, or just Kalish. I suspect they are making (or will make) a hard push for Hamilton. You wonder whether Cherington has enough moxie to get him. Hasn't shown much yet, though Gomes may have had other offers the Red Sox had to top.

If I could do it I would.....I am still only 35% computer literate. I think I will wait for the new keyboard. Thanks for the suggestion though.

True, but only if they do bring in a good 1B and another decent outfielder---and their names cannot be Loney and Victorino. They are both fading badly and Loney is an absol ute bum.

Loney will not get resigned. If we bring in Napoli to play 1B and split time with Jerry Sands, I think that could be a nice platoon. I know that they are both RH and that is not necessarily an ideal platoon, but I think that with Napoli being able to play C as well and Sands being able to play the corner OF positions that it will only help in terms of flexibility. The potential power at 1B would be a plus.

Gomes is a decent addition in the OF. If he even platoons with Kalish, that gives us a LHH and a RHH. That would not be a bad platoon in LF. I do agree that we need another decent OF. Even a platoon with Nava in LF might not be bad, especially with Nava being a switch hitter. We cannot just sign Gomes and call it an offseason in the OF. We need at least one more decent OF. I am still waiting to hear if we are going after Hamilton. I know we are kicking the tires with him, but there are mixed opinions about signing him. I am still not sure one way or another. I think that he would be a good addition to any team, but I do not want to sign him to a long-term contract. If we sign him to a two or three year deal, then I am probably not going to be a against it.

I said Gomes platoon with Nava in previous post. Nava is a switch hitter, but he hits much better from the left side against RHP, and played left field last year. Kalish is probably more the candidate to play RF since he's better defensively. Good hit/no field players have traditionally occupied LF in Fenway, beginning with Ted Williams. It's a matter of learning the caroms off the wall, and you don't need a strong arm like RF.

Good or bad, since he made the trade of Beckett, Gonzalez and Crawford to LA, this team has a significantly different look/clubhouse.

Today at least gives us some hope that BC is invested in changing the culture.

With some of the rumors floating around, this team may have a chance at being a little more than just competitive.

I told (some of) you guys, give him a chance.

At this very point in time I'm certainly looking at him in a little more positive light than I did previously. He's still got time to screw it up though too.

Ben le boob is just risk averse. I don't see him able to pull off any further moves at the winter meetings. The guy takes 45 minutes just to figure out what to order for breakfast at Denny's.

Worse yet, he takes 45 minute to decide whether or not to eat at Denny's.

I'd take longer than that. Every time I eat at Denny's I end up spending an equal amount of time on the shitter afterwards.

Do I detect an ounce or two of sarcasm there MVP? First of all, who the hell in their right mind would eat at Denny's in the first place? The food there is s*** for the birds and is usually undercooked or overcooked, unless the Denny's in your Eastern neighborhood is better that the crudpile ones we have out here in once again sunny So. Cal.

As for Cherries, I'm still not completely sold on him but he has at least opened my eyes and shown that he can pull the trigger on a deal, and the fact that he got us a very good one IMHO with Napoli augers well for future success on his part. His Victorino signing? Well, not so good IMHO/
