...and Tom Yawkey has been documented as committing genocide and atrocities on people? I hate when people condemn other people for things based on nothing other than public opinion. Maybe he had racist views. I wouldn't know' date=' and neither would you, but to equate a man who was loved and respected by the many people who did know him with a Hitler is absurd.[/quote']

Yeah, I have to agree with a700 here. Yawkey may have been a racist. Who wasn't back then? I'm sure some of my own great-grandparents and such were bigots. Sign of the times.

But Hitler is basically the go-to symbol for pure evil in every conversation. With good reason, obviously. I mean, he may have handed out food to kids during morning strolls and saved kittens from drowning or something, but in context that means almost nothing. No, scratch that, it means nothing. (Especially since the food was likely poisoned and he almost certainly saved those kittens for the purpose of hate-f***ing them to death later that evening). He was a very bad person. No one disputes that.

But Godwinning a thread on a sports message board and comparing your everyday early 20th century racist to a man who is the embodiment of the worst of humanity to the vast majority of the civilized world is just...well, not that intelligent. The only time analogizing your opponent's position with Hitler is appropriate is if their position includes some sort of genocide or mass war-making, which might honestly have some comparisions you can make.

To make a long post short (aw, s***, too late), even bringing up the name Hitler in this thread, especially given the subject matter, was inane.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled whiny argument.

I like a winning team. I don't know the people in the FO so I neither like or dislike them. If they give us a winning team to watch' date=' all is good for me. Is it a requirement to "like" the FO to post here?[/quote']

I was feigning confusion about your feelings on the FO, I guess maybe I was too...dry.

We all love a winning team. Sometimes though, you have to step back, look at the big picture. This team has been consistently contending and consistently great for a decade now. There are bumps, yeah, but there always are.

Hearing that Sox wanted to include language to protect themselves if Gonzalez shoulder was issue. Gonzalez convinced Sox he wanted to come

Gordon Edes

Sides agreed to keep talking on extension. He came in wanting 22-25 mill a year 8 years Luxury tax implications also a factor

You mean besides Branch Rickey?

Not to open this whole argument up again, but yeah, okay. Branch Rickey wasn't a racist. Neither were some other people. But as a whole, percentagewise, American culture was bascially racist and segregated. We all know this.

Look at it now. Everything is pretty integrated. There are prejudices, sure, but everyone is more or less equal. And yet, there are still KKK members (though the numbers are dwindling), there are still racist organizations. They are just a small demented fraction of the population.

Now reverse that. That was 1910.

I'd like to see more protection for teams laying out contracts, also a maximum put in place for no more than 5 years for hitters and 3 for pitchers. I want to go even further and do away with guaranteed contracts. Of course the players union will never go for it, but screw them.

Racism is still around today. It will never go away. It doesn't help that Blacks ave a stigma in the inner cities like Newark Camden and NYC that they are in gangs.

I know that you were being dry. :D More so than most fans here, I have a year to year outlook. I am thrilled to get this guy for 2011. I am just pointing out to those in the Theo fan club that we only have him for one year, and it was not cheap talent wise. I'm actually surprised that they are okay with the deal. I agree that there is a lot going on behind the scenes, and IMO AGon's agent is in a great position. The FO can't be happy with him having this kind of leverage. We shall see. As for me, 2011 is all I really care about right now, so this was a major move.

In the context of today's contracts, 6/150 isn't terrible since HorseFace got more than that.

When you hand out top prospects, you HAVE to be thinking years into the future. Nine times out of ten, anyway.

Yawkey was a bit more prejudiced than others of his day. Think Willie Mays would've looked good in a Sox uni?
This is the type of baseless opinion that bothers me. Yawkey never met Mays nor did he make a decision to not sign him. Yawkey's biggest documented personal failing was that he was a huge drunk. There are misconceptions about his southern roots etc,. when the fact is that he grew up on Park Avenue in NY in a very politically liberal atmosphere. His parents and other caretakers tragically died when he was a child. He was turned over to the care of his irresponsible alcoholic uncle who purchased the Detroit Tigers. Yawkey spent the rest of his young formative years in Detroit-- another place far from the south. His uncle croaked on him too, and he was looked after by Ty Cobb, of all people, until Cobb almost beat him to death in a drunken frenzy. People think they know a lot about Yawkey, but they don't, so they shouldn't offer opinions condemning him

To the kid who said I was smoking weed when I said Werth would get holiday money and that he won't even come close to 100 million, well.... how about now?

I was wrong, and i'm man enough to admit it. However, who would have thought someone would be that f***ing stupid?

On a side note, where are the FO bashers?

Oh GoBruiiiiiiiiiiiins!!!

Where are you?

This deal has to already be set and waiting till the beginning of the season. 6 years 150 is doable. Pretty much expected. The Sox have to be waiting to announce until after spring training due to luxury tax. They are not going to give up the top prospects and then lose this guy after one season. Not over one freaking year of contract time. Nothing would surprise me though. Not after today's circus act.

Nice grammar

It's not my "natural language". Next time I'll be more careful about my grammar. Sorry.

By the way, I'm not that hated guy. People actually know me for being almost blind for the things I love, including my baseball team.
