This deal has to already be set and waiting till the beginning of the season. 6 years 150 is doable. Pretty much expected. The Sox have to be waiting to announce until after spring training due to luxury tax. They are not going to give up the top prospects and then lose this guy after one season. Not over one freaking year of contract time. Nothing would surprise me though. Not after today's circus act.
It has been a circus? Yesterday, I never would have predicted the roller coaster events of today.

Hey, if people want to look at Tom Yawkey through rose-colored glasses, that's fine by me. I'm sure he was a wonderful person, that doesn't preclude the Sox from having a smidgen of racism in its history. When did they integrate again? Last? Ok, then if it wasn't racism behind these decisions it was clearly a case of horrible management. As with any "oganization" the tone is set from the top and comes straight from ownership. To blame the GMs solely is just silly and doesn't show much critical thinking.

Anyway, I don't want to bicker about something none of us could know for sure. I'm just glad the Agon situation is on the up and up.

I dont think anyone looks at him through "rose colored glasses".

There are a lot of rumors out there that Yawkey was a racist.

Jeez, just google it and you will see all types of examples and stories of it.

None of it is fact though and that is kind of a harsh accusation without hard fact.

Its a touchy subject many people are not comfortable talking about.

Racism in baseball was institutionalized. That is a fact. The Yankees were the second to last team to integrate. Does that make them bigger racists than the rest? You picked out one guy and said he was worse than the rest, when the fact is that the Red Sox were a small part of his fortune. He basically was an absentee owner throughout the 50's as he devoted his attentions to his other businesses and drinking. His drinking buddies (basically old ballplayers like Joe Cronin) were left with the keys to the team. Was he worse than the rest? You are no one to make that judgment. He certainly should not be mentioned in a sentence with Hitler.

It's a mob type mentality where the accused has no opportunity to refute horrible accusations. It makes me uncomfortable, because it makes me see how easily people are willing to jump on such terrible condemnations of people and believe them as fact and embellish and exaggerate the accusations. If people want to bring up Hitler, this is how the "blame it on the Jews [or substitute any other group] " mentality can take root.

Okay, back to the trade. I think the Jayson Werth deal kinda forced the sox hand here. Werth got a RIDICULOUS deal, something that should skyrocket AdGon's overall deal. I think this makes a 7th AND 8th yr pretty mandatory from the sox perspective. My guess is that the sox and AdGon reached an accord once their second tier power threat went to the Nats. My guess is that a Tex deal is in the works

So this kinda puts Beltre as a definite out here. Lets see how big of a change this is...

You lose...

Victor Martinez....302/.351/.493 .844OPS

Adrian Beltre........321/.365/.553 .919OPS

You add back in...

About 2 months of Kevin Youkilis, who was on pace for a career high OPS at .975

About 3 months of Dustin Pedroia, who was on pace for close to a career high OPS of .860

Presumably, a full season out of Jacoby Ellsbury

Presumably, a full season out of an aging Mike Cameron

Then, you add in Adrian Gonzalez, who had a .298/.393/.511 line, which essentially replaces Beltre. The question is, whether the crew above plus Salty starting is enough to offset the prime production of Martinez. It also entails that the sox players above return to prime production and stay healthy, which is far from a guarantee.

Regardless, the sox are gonna score some runs this yr. Their 1-5 is very strong with Ellsury-Pedroia-Gonzalez-Youkilis-Ortiz. The 2 biggest things that will dictate the strength of the sox offense will be health, and the play of JD Drew. If Drew bounces back to a .900OPS hitter, then the lineup is 1-6 deep with All Star caliber players. If he doesnt, then it leaves the back end of the order a bit weak

How about these options for RH bat.

Use in either LF and/or platoon at DH

Xavier Nady

Austin Kearns

Marcus Thames

Jermaine Dye

Magglio Ordonez

I really wanted them to take a flier on Pat Burrell. Signed for 1M dollars with SFG.

I know not much to work with, but now that AGON is here we dont necessarily need an impact player....just a steady RH bat.

Out of that group, I'd pick Maggs.

Kearns or Ordonez are interesting. The Guy on that list that is really intriguing is Nady. If he can get back to pre injury form. Nady could be a steal.

LOL Kearns. No!

haha. Dye didnt even play last year.

Pickings are slim.

I wonder what type of a deal Maggz would want.

Aging OF (36) coming off a contract he didnt really fulfill and he was injured last year.

I was wrong, and i'm man enough to admit it. However, who would have thought someone would be that f***ing stupid?

On a side note, where are the FO bashers?

Oh GoBruiiiiiiiiiiiins!!!

Where are you?

oh I figured the Tigers would of been that dumb. I didn't think the Nats would of went for him. I figured they'd be making a big splash but just in 2012 or 2013.

Youk could play the OF better than Nady. Nady is a hack in the field.

If they add Maggz, and he gives us what he gave the Tigers pre-injury.......losing out on Werth doesnt look so bad.

Hadn't Jermaine Dye been out of baseball for a bit? Is Josh Willingham available?

Guys, they're going to start Kalish in the outfield, or run Cameron out there until he gets hurt then call up Kalish. Either way, the answer is Kalish.

Willingham scares me. He could be Hermida-Part II the right handed sequel.

There is one former Indian we might look at.

Coco isn't a power hitter though. He does get on base and run, at least when he's healthy he can. If the pickings are that slim, work him in with Ellsbury and Cameron in CF/LF. He can hit a little, and is great defensively.

Was he racist? Probably. Should he be compared to Hitler? No. That was EnFuego's post, not mine. Hitler comparisons are overused and generally in poor taste (see Obama with Hitler stache).

Baseball racism was institutionalized, but it took the Sox way too long to move past it. Was it because of Yawkey, Cronin, or the racial disharmony in Boston at the time? We can't say for sure, but we can make an educated guess.

I dont know about that.

Would you be against Maggz in LF and Kalish getting more time in the minors?

Cameron should not be starting anywhere on this team.

Kalish is not the answer for the other big bat. He just isn't.
