They are announcing a ticket price increase for 2011 ;)

hahahaha loser.

I wonder if there is more to the deal then???

Myabe they will announce an extension???

Posted

The way the Red Sox behaved in this extended drama, you would think they were getting a cut for each post in Red Sox chat groups.

If you want to know what happened, just go back to Speier (WEEI). They have an extension, but will wait to announce it, presumably to save on the luxury tax.

I wonder, though, how Werth's sudden 7 year deal with Washington affected the Sox thinking.

Maybe they realized the times had caught up with them for 6 years deals.

 Good Lord Coco. No details but Adrian Gonzalez is a member of the Boston Red Sox!!!!

Haha I was at the BB&T Classic in DC and had shoddy internet.

It'll be hard for him to complain anymore, what with being permanently banned and all.

You're welcome, TalkSox.

Coco was unfulfilled promises. And hes already been here and was terrible.

Coco always delivers ;)

But yeah, pass on Coco. If we can't get Crawford (and we won't), then I'm all for Kalish and Cameron splitting time. Though if Kalish is getting 450 ABs this year, I don't know how I feel about Saltalamacchia also playing every day.

Anyway, time for the lineup as it stands now:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Gonzalez

Youkilis

Ortiz

Drew

Cameron/Kalish

Scutaro

Saltalamacchia

Edits?

If Cameron gets any extended time in the OF this year, I hope its in LF. Lets not screw with Jacoby any further. He has more value in CF anyway. His bat does not produce enough for a corner OF.

Guys' date=' they're going to start Kalish in the outfield, or run Cameron out there until he gets hurt then call up Kalish. Either way, the answer is Kalish.[/quote']

The starting OF will be Kalish-Ellsbury-Drew. Cameron will be a backup and DH against lefties. The Ellsbury experiment in LF is ancient history.

With Werth off the market, I'm thinking that Kallish is the Sox starting left fielder.

There is no way the Sox will sign (my guy) Crawford for 8 years.

I'm OK with it, though.

This is the type of baseless opinion that bothers me. Yawkey never met Mays nor did he make a decision to not sign him. Yawkey's biggest documented personal failing was that he was a huge drunk. There are misconceptions about his southern roots etc' date='. when the fact is that he grew up on Park Avenue in NY in a very politically liberal atmosphere. His parents and other caretakers tragically died when he was a child. He was turned over to the care of his irresponsible alcoholic uncle who purchased the Detroit Tigers. Yawkey spent the rest of his young formative years in Detroit-- another place far from the south. His uncle croaked on him too, and he was looked after by Ty Cobb, of all people, until Cobb almost beat him to death in a drunken frenzy. People think they know a lot about Yawkey, but they don't, so they shouldn't offer opinions condemning him[/quote']

Yeah, but he missed the boat on Mays. Because Mays was black. Yawkey was no liberal.

Not many Branch Rickeys in baseball in those days.

Agreed. No more screwing with Jacoby in LF.

I agree. The only problem is his posterior ribs.

So we lose VMart and Beltre and get one big bat (AGon) to replace those two bats.

Ive suggested Maggz.

I think if he gets a short deal and can provide just as much as Werth if hes healthy.

Posted
Not gonna lie' date=' I completely forgot about Lowrie. I agree, try to trade Scutaro, perhaps in a deal for a reliever.[/quote']

why? until lowrie can stay healthy its not realy smart to depend on him for a starting position

Just want to add, we all owe a vote of thanks--to Jayson Werth and the Washington Nationals--for increasing the national debt and getting the Red Sox off their asses.

I'm not sure how that affects his value. One would assume that both Ellsbury and Cameron produce the same regardless of position. If you also assume that Cameron and Ellsbury defend about as well as they have in the past, it would still make sense to put Cameron in CF and Ellsbury in LF. Just because Jacoby doesn't produce enough for a corner OF, does not mean that the Sox have another corner OF they can simply replace him with.

That doesn't mean that I want Cameron starting in CF necessarily, we should really see how he comes back from his injury, Kalish's value to the team, etc. If Kalish and Ellsbury are starting, Ells should be playing center 162 games, I don't think it's a great idea to constantly move him around. It just doesn't make sense to say "Jacoby doesn't produce enough for a corner OF spot, therefore he shouldn't play there" since this isn't a decision about signing free agents or trading players.

Keep Scutaro....start him.

Lowrie can get plenty of AB's if Scutaro is still on this team.

How about let them battle it out in spring training. Lowrie would be more flexible off the bench because he plays all infield positions. He should at least get the opportunity to compete for the starting spot though.

A .669 OPS, and middle of the line defensive catcher. Why does his name come up as much as it does?

he has been getting the chance , he just cant stay healthy

Thats fine, but give the edge to Scutaro regardless.

Lowrie is more versatile. He does not need to be the starter at any position for him to contribute and get AB's.

Lowrie is more valuable than Scutaro but this is a weird case where Lowrie might have more value off of the bench. If Scutaro is on the bench they might lose him for the year. Lowrie is more accustomed to coming off the bench and is probably more likely to accept the role.

No argument there. When healthy he does have a pretty good bat. More pop than most give him credit for. Plus a switch hitter makes that line-up card a little more flexible. I like what Scutaro brings also. Just think Lowrie brings more to the table when healthy. Key word being healthy of course.

Posted
The beauty of Lowrie is that after not playing for a year and a half.... he came up and crushed the ball when he came back. This is a guy that will not get rusty sitting on a bench, who can switch hit, and do everything you ask of him-- and that includes having the pop to replace corner infielder offense respectably. And because of the injuries, he knows he has to absolutely earn everything.

Source: No extension in place for AGon but parameters are. Deal will not be more than 7 years, not more than 22M per. #RedSox #Padres #MLB

I never believe anything that comes from Rosenthal.

That's right around what would be expected. No problem with that deal at all. That makes the trade worth giving up the top prospects.

In all fairness, he was the one who countered Heymann when he made the statement saying there would be no deal.
