I dont know about that.

Would you be against Maggz in LF and Kalish getting more time in the minors?

Cameron should not be starting anywhere on this team.

Eesh, I don't know about Ordonez. Something about him just triggers my "Don't Go There" alarms.

Almost all of the available options set off alarms with me haha.

Oh hell no. No Coco Crap please...

Why not? He's coming off a pretty danged decent year out west. If you can't get power, go for speed, and we know Coco can play here defensively. There's more positives to taking a look, especially if Coco's healthy, than there are drawbacks.

Was he racist? Probably. Should he be compared to Hitler? No. That was EnFuego's post, not mine. Hitler comparisons are overused and generally in poor taste (see Obama with Hitler stache).

Baseball racism was institutionalized, but it took the Sox way too long to move past it. Was it because of Yawkey, Cronin, or the racial disharmony in Boston at the time? We can't say for sure, but we can make an educated guess.

I don't think we should be guessing at things as serious as this type of condemnation. It took baseball way too long to integrate, but even the slowest teams to integrate did so faster than the rest of the country. A strong argument can be made that baseball was less racist than the rest of society.

Coco sets off more alarms to me than Maggz.

Maggz was a big time run producer.

Coco was unfulfilled promises. And hes already been here and was terrible.

If he wants to take a very small deal as a defensive replacement/pinch runner/ 5th OF, then maybe.

He was a huge disappointment here though.

Buzz meter today was off the charts.:lol::lol:

I wonder which ideas Tomase will steal from TalkSox for tomorrow's column.

I might be out of the loop, has he actually done this before?

Did anyone mention Shaun Marcum being traded to the Brewers here yet? Anyway the Brewers 2nd ranked prospect (Brett Lawrie) was in the deal. I think this may set up a further move later on.
by the Jays or the Brewers?

The Jays and Brewers I believe have been talking trade involving Ryan Braun. That may be what he is talking about. You're right about Nady's fielding. Not all that great. Was talking more about what his bat could bring. Let's keep Youk from Left field as well. The one game last season was enough. No more nightmares needed.

Yeah, I have to agree with a700 here. Yawkey may have been a racist. Who wasn't back then? I'm sure some of my own great-grandparents and such were bigots. Sign of the times.

But Hitler is basically the go-to symbol for pure evil in every conversation. With good reason, obviously. I mean, he may have handed out food to kids during morning strolls and saved kittens from drowning or something, but in context that means almost nothing. No, scratch that, it means nothing. (Especially since the food was likely poisoned and he almost certainly saved those kittens for the purpose of hate-f***ing them to death later that evening). He was a very bad person. No one disputes that.

But Godwinning a thread on a sports message board and comparing your everyday early 20th century racist to a man who is the embodiment of the worst of humanity to the vast majority of the civilized world is just...well, not that intelligent. The only time analogizing your opponent's position with Hitler is appropriate is if their position includes some sort of genocide or mass war-making, which might honestly have some comparisions you can make.

To make a long post short (aw, s***, too late), even bringing up the name Hitler in this thread, especially given the subject matter, was inane.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled whiny argument.

f***ing excellent post Derek.

What number do you think A-Gon will wear?

23 or 24.

The same 2 numbers he has worn before.

EDIT: Cameron wears 23.

Maybe 24.

Just got back in and didn't have access to my computer. Last I saw the deal was dead and now :)

I wonder how active Theo will be in discussing trades after this deal or whether he will stick with free agents. I may be a bit greedy, but I hope we continue to go after more players to improve the team.
