I'm quite certain they didn't overlook his injury history. -
I don't think so. Nothing was egregious. I think Duran should've gotten to the double, but it wasn't automatic. Contreras should've been able complete the pick-off play, but I think that's only maybe a 75-80% success rate. The usual pitcher mishap. And White not being familiar with Fenway Park on the triple. They could've made all four plays, but they were bad errors or anything.

I'm curious why you think it is not working. Bello & Miller allowed 1 ER in 5 innings, with a cool 6/0 K/W. In fact, in his bulk RP appearances (1st/2nd inning), he has allowed 3 ERs in 34.2 IPs, for an ERA of 0.78. I cannot imagine anything, in any sport, working better than what Bello is currently doing as a bulk reliever.

It's astonishing the change in philosophy from 2023 (3) to 33 & 18 in 25/26. It can't be normal variance. They have to be intentional favoring pitchers. Good question for the press. -
With that rotation, along with Raleigh, Naylor, JRod, Arizona, even Crawford and some rising prospect, and a closer, I thought they were automatic to win that division. Even with under-performance, I don't see how they aren't a .550+ team.

It seemed like a difficult game to lose. I think the As might've had one hard-hit shot. The first run was unearned. Soderstrom's triple is not a triple if Abreu is out there. Duran took a sloppy route to the double, and the RS failed to execute on the pick-off. But that's part of baseball. We had a fair number of wins where things just fell into our lap.

That might be a 2027 project, if then. But I see nothing wrong with Bello throwing 5 innings and 85 pitches, with Miller taking over for one inning. And if they do that in the reverse order, I fail to see any difference.

I'm curious what your alternative is? Personally, I like a hard-throwing opener over a soft-tosser. Who'd you have picked?

Illness. Believe it not, the RS (and everyone else) have binders of notes on every player.

It is supposed to be Miller as the opener. Maybe Bello has a bulk RP?

With 15 HRs in 312 ABs and only a .234 BABIP. If Duran regresses to a .300 BABIP, then he projects to 29 HRs and a .263 average. That'll work.

It's both worrisome and positive. It's real early, but we know Yorke hasn't worked out, and neither Teel nor Monty are causing me any regret, yet. But that's a lot of #1's to lose. -
If a player with an injured hand is hitting in early August, I assume he'll be back by late August, or early September. Fred is lurking; what does your medical background suggest?

If a Duran type of player is our biggest weakness, then I feel pretty good, He should put up good numbers if we restrict him to RH pitchers.

From 6/13-8/2, Slaten had the 4th best fWAR in baseball. 3rd best FIP.

Bennett lost it after the 3rd inning. I don't overrate one game, but he is 35 innings past last year. Or it could be nothing but the humidity. You can't even walk without sweating.

White was there because Abreu was injured. Nothing you can do. But Duran has never hit lefties. He's at .588 this yeah and .600 last year. White is not much of a solution, but has about a .745 over the past two years. When Abreu returns, a LF platoon of Duran/White, and a DH platoon of Yoshida/JJ, with regular PH appearances, is probably warranted.

Yoshida was on the bench because of JJ, who went 3-5 with 2 runs scored.

Jump was a top-40 prospect. Nothing surprising here.

Need to be careful with those one-game sample size.

He had 3 HRs in his previous 5 games. But it is likely, at this point, that he is not an option against lefty starters.

-0- HRs and 3 walks in 27 ABs. JJ has 4 HRs in 90 ABs with a 32/12 K/W. He's not a donut against lefties, but I'd start JJ against lefties and not think twice. Yoshida career OPS v lefties is .662 and JJ's OPS v lefties is .783.
