  1. Of course it is all speculation. None of us were there. You asked why I thought he was traded. My speculation is as good as anyone else's speculation.
  2. If Scott was there, and is spilling the beans, then how close was it? He either knows the number, or he doesn't. If he knew the number, I'm pretty sure he'd have mentioned it.
  3. From a source I think you're pretty likely to believe: Bellhorn04 Ownership drew the line at around $300 million and wouldn't budge from that, and then gave the go-ahead to trade him.
  4. From NBC: As a reminder, the Red Sox reportedly offered Betts a 10-year, $300 million deal.
  5. So? Mookie might have been looking at the same thing as me and thought the future was 5 year away. The fact that the team made the playoffs once in that 5-year period backs that up.
  6. No specifics. "He would've signed for less'? Less than what? How much was he offered? How much did he ask for? People that are at the table usually have more details.
  7. And that supports my idea that Betts wanted out. I think that too many fans think that Boston is the ultimate BB destination. That was true once upon a time (with NYY), but those days are long past. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the idea that Betts took a look at the same thing I (and many others) looked. A mediocre team, with an already expensive payroll, with no help coming from the farm, and decided he didn't want to spend a large part of his career watching the RS rebuild.
  8. I read most of the Scott quotes, but it didn't feel like a compelling argument. I expected to read something along the lines of 'the RS offered x, Betts wanted y, the RS countered with z, that they talked to the LAD, SDP, etc.' But there wasn't really much of that. Like the article implied, it feels like Scott is trying to establish his on-line credentials.
  9. Well, Jackson Merrill is hitting a robust .600 OPS and Judge has a .593 over his last 12 games, so maybe a 3-team trade can be arranged.
  10. Do both. I don't see an unproven Kyson being worth as much as 3.5 years of Schmitt. I think Bello will provide value. And it might be complicated enough that the SF fans won't object. With the usual disclaimer that the fans that hate Bello's contract will scream to high heavens that we traded away a future HOF.
  11. BTV is something to reference just for approximate values. It doesn't work well for RPs, prospects, or long-term contracts.
  12. I don't think we'd have had anything. There were three reasons why DD was replaced after 2019: 84-78 Highest payroll in baseball Worst farm in baseball None of those things were going to change any time soon.
  13. From EVERYTHING I heard, he took less from the Dodgers on a per-season basis.
  14. Same thing I always say. I think Mookie wanted to move on, and was professional enough to tell the FO to get whatever they could for him. For all I know, he might have told them to trade him to the Dodgers. I'd have no problem with that, and I'd respect him for saying so.
  15. I read a lot of opinions. A lot of fans recognize that Alonso, Bregman, Marte, Bichette, etc., were not the answer. They want an answer, but also understand that committing to bad l/t contracts is NOT the answer.
  16. That's not a real analogy, unless you are a uber-small market. A bad season for the RS is maybe 78 wins and in contention for a WC until the TDL.
  17. Outside of the need to win, no FO cares what the fans think. We still have fans that think Alonso, Bregman, and the Tolle+Mayer for Marte is the answer. And that's not 'use to', but I mean right now.
  18. Straight-up for Yoshida and we have a deal.
  19. Even after all these years, the only thing that matters is whether or not we were going to lose him. My guess is that he told the FO that he intended on leaving and to get what they could for him. Seems like a Betts thing to do. So the RS took his advice and moved him.
  20. 75 PC/5 is about normal. After the start he had, that's pretty good. Saves us from having to use the BP. I'll be real happy with a win, but I'd be even happier if we could get a couple more runs and spare our key guys.
  21. We are so lost in the ABS arena. Instead of asking so many vague questions, yielding so many vague answers, I'd love to hear a reporting ask what the RS overall strategy is for challenging strikes. Start with simple stuff, like, if there are 2 outs, no one on, and an 0-2 count, can a hitter challenge a strike call? Is there a basic framework? I haven't seen one. But just to start with, there is no reason to leave challenges on the table. If you get to the 8th with two challenges left, challenge if you have at least a 40% chance. 49 games * 2 challenges = 98 opps. 66 challenges - 30 overturns = 36 challenges burned. That means we left 62 challenges on the table. That seems almost impossible.
  22. 12 innings in the pros. 50 innings in the minors with 27 walks. There is nothing wrong with his stats, but nothing outstanding about them either.
  23. The relevancy might be that his injury gives us a window to bring in new talent, and/or replace him. Or perhaps start the transition of Mayer to SS, since it easier to find offense at 2B than SS.
  24. I thought it best to get it out of the way earlier in the day. And there was an abundance of low-hanging fruit on which I could focus.
