  1. Only because they happened to show it, the TB catcher was just switching out his communication device. All the pitches are called by the manager or the FO. There is an actual science to this.
  2. I assume that every manager gets input from the FO. If all a manager did was to start the top-9 OPS', I'm pretty sure I could do that.
  3. 15/5 K/W in 13 IPs against minor leaguers doesn't impress me that much. Currently we have only 4 SPs, including Bello. We got lucky with Bennett, but we can't go to the well too often. When Suarez returns, then we have 5. Only when Crochet returns will we have a decision to make.
  4. Thanks to the pressure applied by Moon.
  5. I've seen 10s of thousands of posts from Red Sox fans. Most were only semi-lucid from a BB perspective.
  6. Our Golden Age from 2004-2018, our OBP ranking among all 30 teams was 1st 7x, and 2nd 3x.In our worst two seasons out of that period, 2012 and 2014, we were 21st and 14th in OBP.
  7. Like everything else, it depends on how much defensive weakness you are willing to put up with in exchange for the offense.
  8. I intended on him playing 3B instead of Durbin.
  9. It seems like 5GG doesn't understand why Yoshida isn't in the starting lineup, and you don't understand why he is even on the team. Interesting times.
  10. I was happy he got traded, but I don't dislike the guy. It was always about him being a good, not great, DH at a premium price tag. There is no possible fit for him with the RS, even if we included Yoshida in the trade, but I'd take him back if they could figure it out. Just for fun, Devers + Eldridge + 'some' $$$ for Yoshida + Durbin + a good, non-premium prospect. All it would take is for Posey to acknowledge that maybe it wasn't a great move, and that maybe the SFG need to start looking forward to the future.
  11. I was hoping (before Monasterio) that Gasper would be our #26.
  12. My head officially hurt now.
  13. The option year was what I was referring to. Does that effectively give us another year, or is there a catch?
  14. As always, RS fans put way too much faith in small sample sizes. Devers has a .915 over his last 7 games, with a 7-game hitting streak. Players his age rarely derail,
  15. Red Sox fans take it as a matter of faith that, when a player goes 0-4, his career is over.
  16. He likely starts in RF for the Cubs when Suzuki moves on. Pretty sure he is off-limits.
  17. IRT the 'what-ifs', if a player is not traded, then he is not worth discussing. None of us know what the price was, or even what players might be involved. Neto's name was thrown around as if he was a realistic possibility. He wasn't. I liked Burns, Chandler and Seth Hernandez, but they were all almost certainly off the trading block.
  18. For the bottom half, maybe the bottom 20, I'd agree. But not for the big spenders. We should be in contention every year, our recent history notwithstanding. Some slight tweaking is fine, but a bad year for us should be .500. But in order to do that, even the RS can't afford to throw away too many contracts.
  19. The average MLB team is pretty average. But that's the wrong take-away from the LOB number.
