    I'll bite. Show me the quote where I said that about Casas. I said I expected us to sign Alonso, and that I was happy with Contreras. I mean, you do know that Casas missed the entire season, right? In the previous season, I was fine playing KC at 2nd because, you know, we had no 2B. That stuff (having someone play 2nd) is important. And if I was keen on KC, how could I possible also want Mayer to start? KC, Story, and Devers. Where was Mayer going to play?

    Maybe. LAs can be raised. Paredes has increased his four years n a row. Tatis has decreased 4 years in a row. Soto has increased his by a lot. When you can hit a ball as hard as Anthony does, you have to get the ball in the air more often.

    I don't think so. If Yordie was available, you'd have my attention. But we ranked 11th in DH OPS. I wouldn't hand out a lot of money just to move up to 8th or so.

    Yeah, not sure what the numbers mean. The Yankees used 13 guys at DH in 2026 alone. So is 33 too high or too low?

    I remember the HR director sending out an E-mail telling the employees to "Work Smarter, Not Harder". Every single person in the office left exactly at 5:00 that day. It was organized or anything, so it was really funny to see the entire company waiting for elevators at the same time. We never again saw any pithy recommendations from HR again.

    That's a choice. You can go to a mid-week Yankee game, bring in some food, and get out without even spending $200.

    It was made up because we acquired Contreras, who had a better year. Rather than admit that Contreras was the better choice, it was easier to move the goal posts.

    Last time they did that, the players went on strike and canceled the WS. Unless they are one small step from signing an agreement, there is a -0- chance of no lockout.

    Oddly enough, both Yoshida & Sato have almost identical OPS+ in the final two years in Japan (Yoshida was one year older).

    Folks also wanted to trade Tolle+ for Marte. Shiny Object Syndrome (SOS).

    I don't see Gray arguing a lot. I'm guessing he'll have a number, but might be just as interested in what the RS are going to do to get to the WS.

    I think you can have a good team without having a mega-payroll, but more money = more wins.

    I'll be comfortable with RA being #1 or #2. But the biggest bang for the buck might well be another player that can get on base in front of Contreras and Abreu.

    You'd be surprised at how many philosophies have changed over the years. FB no longer does the 3 yards and a cloud of dust any more. The 4-3 yielded to nickel backs, which yielded to dime backs, to slot CBs and edge CBs. When I started following, the SB/CS was ~60% until some nerd named Tito decided the correct target should be 75%. Before said nerd took over, the average number of sacs was 54. Now it's 23. But more importantly, nerds didn't invent this stuff. They learned how to quantify them. Ted Williams spoke of these things long before I created the computer, and I'd bet real money that guys like Babe Ruth knew all about LA even if he never spoke about it.

    If you had a DH available with a 111 OPS+, how much would you pay him? Or, how high do you want your DH OPS to be, and how much would you pay for that?

    King's K9 rate has declined 4 straight years. That's pretty rare. I'll pass.

    That said, the statistical input need not be a directive. Things like '3rd time thru' can be over-ridden in cases like Snell's game v the LAD. But has to be a strong guide. A computer printout is little more than experience being inputted into a PC.

    Nothing in the world is managed by feelings any more. IRT to experience, I remember Valentine saying he issued an intentional walk to Matsui because he 'remembered Matsui getting a lot of big hits'. Matsui was arguably the worst hitter in baseball with a .435 OPS, and the IBB that BV gave him was the only IBB of the season. Matsui never got a hit for the rest of his career, and retired a week later. But BV's experience led him to believe an IBB was in order. Which is why you need a nerd to tell you that 'you never IBB someone that cannot fracking hit'.

    One could say the same thing about Cleveland and Milwaukee. Weak division, but CL has finished 1st in 7 of the past 11 years.

    I'm not a fan of Mayo. Legit power, but poor splits. But I love the idea of trying to project the future rather than overpaying for the past. My choice is Brent Rooker. He'd have been a tough player to acquire last year. Given his knee injury, and a contract that's expensive for LV, but not for us, he might not cost much. And his bat is very-well suited for Fenway.

    It doesn't matter. You get the same pick the following year if he doesn't sign.
