    I did this exercise several times during the season, but the decline in hitting was: Duran -147 (in OPS) Story -120 and injured Anthony -124 and injured Narvaez -191 No one had that on their dance card. And replacing our other 5 hitters, with anyone, would not have overcome that.

    It was half, not three quarters. What might be a little more interesting is that we didn't really approach mediocrity in any of the 6 months. We had a sOPS+ of 85, 109, 86, 112, 122, and 81. We had no months between 86-108.

    IMO, a significant overpay. Abreu and Elly have very similar bWARs over the one, two-, and three-year periods. I'd go Abreu+ or Arias++, but not both.

    Mead or Sato? I assume Mead starts at 2B and Sato replaces Yoshida at DH.

    I want him back. I have him ahead of Skubal based on dollars and length of contract. That said, if LAD decides that the 7 SPs they have under contract is enough, then I want to be competitive with the NYY and NYM.

    The advances and declines probably even out. And given that we lost 9-10 important guys to the IL, some for a long time, and some very key, we should have more returns than outgoing.

    You're looking to fix things that aren't broken. If you want to get someone better than a 4.4 bWAR player with 5 years of control, you'll have to give up Arias, and maybe more.

    I'm from NY, so I get to listen to FAN. All the fans are going off on the team and the fit, much like RS fans are.

    Mead's one-game career has gotten us nowhere. One game out of an entire career might seem like a small sample size to some, but the fact is, Mead has not won a single WSC in his one-game career.

    Every sport has better and worst divisions, and weak teams in the playoffs.

    I'm sure there is a lesson here about HRs and offense. Just for fun, the remaining playoff teams were #8, #22, #27, and #29 in number of HRs hit.

    But, he still has more championships than anyone else, right?

    They picked up the #2 CY and paid him only $3.8M, if you are someone that doesn't think of how much something really costs. Heck, I only paid $37k for my house, if you want to ignore all the other payments.

    I'd like him back, but keep in mind that he wasn't as good as the W/L and ERA suggests.

    May had a better ERA with Boston than he did with Milwaukee. Hicks had 18.2 IPs with Boston. Harrison had a much better ERA with Boston than he had with Milwaukee. None of these pitchers are examples of Boston doing anything well or badly.

    Story is all. One could argue for an upgrade at DH, but that has nothing to do with D. And It doesn't feel like this is the right season for it.

    Which is why he will be our 2B. I mean, if we sign Sato to be our DH/backup 1B/2B/3B/LF, I won't hate it. But I am not sure it will be the upgrade people think it will be.

    He cost them $10M. It doesn't matter what date the check was cut.

    I doubt that we will have a #40 more valuable than Casas.

    I've always liked that approach. A high level of defense, at SS, is almost always worth it. You hope for some hitting, but fine defense at minimum wage is a good deal.
