  1. It's not 'some', it is most. Some RS would've traded Trout after his rookie year. Kyle Tucker had a wRC+ of 28 in his first season. Swanson had a 84 OPS+ in his first FOUR seasons. Cal Raleigh had a 46 wRC+ in his first season. Semien had a 79. This is standard in BB. It's a hard game to learn.
  2. Not my point at all. My point is that plenty of players start off poorly and plenty of players get hurt. That's just baseball. Last week people wanted to trade Duran for pieces. Now he is playing like an AS. People have been wanting to cut IKF since the day we signed him. Now they want to extend him. Just for fun, Mayer + Story + Durban have a 0.8 bWAR in 463 ABs, while IKF has a 0.8 bWAR in 60 ABs.
  3. One bat, yes. More of a divide on whether we needed a second bat, or a #2 SP.
  4. Duran also couldn't play in the bright lights of Fenway. Neither could Bogaerts. Neither could JBJ. Neither could Lester. Those four combined for a total 3.3 bWAR in their first 9 combined seasons. Or maybe it could be that baseball is exceedingly difficult? Nah....
  5. Except in this case, the RS are getting the player, not the Giants. And the Giants are getting budget and payroll efficiency, not the RS.
  6. Some guys show up and don't care of they are a SS, 1B, or catcher. I don't think Duran is one of those guys. Don't touch him. Don't even talk to him. Never even give him a day off.
  7. Adames is a better fit than Alonso, and probably a better player. Marte is better, but a lot older, and will cost prospects. Adames is a better player than Bregman right now.
  8. You can only get what other teams are offering. And no one is offering controllable stars, unless it is a monstrous overpay.
  9. Tatis has -0- HRs this year. Maybe we can pick him up cheap. Acuna has 2, Chourio has 1. Vlad has 3, Tucker 4. I can build a WS team with guys totaling 11 HRs YTD. Heck, I know he is a Yankee, but Judge has 1 HR in his last 15 games. Add him on the cheap.
  10. I see nothing wrong with that assessment. Like I like to say, no one gets elegant solutions. We aren't getting Schmitt; he is too valuable. SF is not getting rid of Devers, Chapman or Adames; they are too expensive. You need two teams trying to make the most of a tough situation.
  11. I see no evidence of that. Adames has had a consistent 3.5 bWAR over the past four years, and is in line for another 3.5. EV and FB% in line with career norms. A slow start, but has hit well over the past 2 weeks.
  12. The biggest impediment is having Posey admit it. No GM wants to eat money on contracts he just signed. But a good executive will recognize a bad situation and move to rectify it, even if it means a little embarrassment.
  13. The idea is more along the lines of figuring out what you would sign Adames for if he were a FA today. He has 3.5 decent seasons left, so ideally maybe you'd give him $135M/6. SF would have to absorb $30M or thereabouts. You won't like the contract in 3 years, but you have to weigh that against not liking our roster for the next 2-3 years.
  14. A couple of days ago, fans were clamoring for the heads of Duran and IKF. Boston is the place where SSS were invented.
  15. No one is suggesting trading real prospects for him. The most SF would get is some salary relief.
  16. It's a good stat if someone says "NOman Anthony hasn’t hit much of anything, and did not live up to all his hype, and expectations so far"
  17. I think the need for another BP arm was one of the few issues most of us agreed on.
  18. I don't think the owners have any real interest in a cap/floor. The union asked for 100% raise, so the owners float an idea of a cap/floor, and look like the reasonable party.
  19. My point being that, if a player can go from being bad to being great, this quickly, then we probably aren't using a big enough sample size.
  20. I agree. You can't go on a run without winning a few games by 4-5 runs. Every game 3 runs or under requires Slaten/Whitlock/Chapman.
