    No, but I can understand the confusion. What I said, or meant to say, is that winning a championship is more difficult that it once was. We're in a division where we are 3rd in payroll. Assuming we make the playoffs, we have a 1:12 of winning the WS, and probably less. Assuming we finish 1st, there is a 1:3 chance that we have to win 4 series. Even if we are one of the two teams with a bye, we have to win 3 series. So even in a very good year, we probably have a 1:8 chance of winning a WS.

    I've looked at this from a number of angles. Including the costs in terms of dollars/prospects, I see no way to have made this team any better. Sign Alonso and you don't have Contreras. Sign Bregman and you don't have Durbin. Trade Duran for Paredes and you don't have Durbin. Sign Schwarber (assuming it was possible) and you likely don't have Suarez. You could argue any single point, but there is no alternative universe where this team is any more than fractionally better.

    As I like to point out, the additions were fantastic. It was 2025 carry-over crew that sunk us. In no particular order and no particular reason: Narvaez -191 OPS points Story -121 & injured Duran -141 Anthony -124 and injured Crochet from 2.59 to 6.30 and injured I know every team has it ups and downs, but that seems like just too much to overcome.

    It's not even sneaking. One of my friends takes a few ounces of Coke out, adds some rum, then closes it so tight that security couldn't open even if they wanted to.

    Craziest thing I ever saw. They did eventually change it, and I raised the capitalization requirements so desktops were no longer part of capex. Every company I worked for had a capitalization requirement of $1,000. I told them every one of them that the $1,000 requirement you had 20 years is worth maybe $250 now. And they had 100s of these things on their ledgers, and most were in a garbage dump long before the 5-year depreciation was done. And then they would try to audit them, but not a single one of them was with the original user because we swapped out desktops every day. I went to $5,000 and no one disagreed. Then I went to $10,000 and no one disagreed. /end of rant/

    He was born in Baltimore and bought a team in Baltimore. You think maybe that was related? His Wiki page says he is a life-long Orioles fan. I'm pretty sure he'll make money, but I am almost positive that he bought the team because it was some sort of childhood dream.

    I'd bet that's the case with most owners. Owners that become overly involved with the team generally don't do well. Maybe an investment in Soto, or Skubal, might require a higher-level review. Off-topic, but one of my pet peeves. In one of the companies I worked for, you'd need like three signatures to buy a PC if it was > $1,000, plus approval from Japan. But a second year engineer could sign off on $250k projects that would cost serious remediation $$$ if the thru-put couldn't be achieved.

    I wish you had admitted that before I spent 5 minutes responding. And FWIW, I still prefer Contreras over Alonso or Okamoto. I think Okamoto's contract will age well, since he is one year younger and one year shorter than Alonso. But I expect Alonso to fall at least one year short of paying off, maybe two years.

    Okamoto, imo, was a better target. $60M/4 v $155M/5. One year younger. Multi-positional talent. The fact that there is a chance that Casas has positive regression is just more checkmark on Okamoto's ledger.

    It seems like there is a failure to communicate. I was talking about this past off-season, not five years ago. I think that adding Contreras, Gray, Durbin, Bennett, and Okamoto would've been a fantastic off-season. If you would like to discuss why any of those five weren't great adds, please do so.

    No doubt in my mind that this is correct. I'd wager that most, if not all, owners buy for the same reason people collect coins, baseball cards, wine, etc. You love the hobby AND you hope to make money.. But the bottom-15 revenue teams will not out-perform the top-15 revenue teams. I'd say that there are only 4-5 teams that don't even try. Others try but are either poorly run, or lack the resources to compete at a higher level.

    Nonsense. Weren't you wrong enough yesterday that you need to be wrong again today? Just because I believe in a 1-9 lineup over a single big bopper lineup doesn't make either of us right or wrong. Just because I believe that OBP trumps HRs doesn't make either of us right or wrong (I'm right, but I'm throwing you a bone). Just because I believe that we need an ace, and you believe that we need a clean-up hitter, doesn't make either of us right or wrong

    Sure. If we signed Okamoto to play 1st, and Casas returned to his former 30-HR potential, then having a position for Okamoto to move to is a positive. That sounds logical to me. And yes, adding Contreras, Gray, Durbin, Bennett, and Okamoto would be a fantastic off-season. That is not even discussion-worthy.

    That's why I don't understand the wild accusations. They were all completely wrong, but some of them completely denied logic.

    That's not really a thing for me. In the olde days, when the NYY/RS were easily the two largest spending teams, and the playoffs were a lot smaller, then the WS was definitely the goal. Now, not only are both teams no longer the spending behemoth, you have to win 2-3 rounds of playoffs just to get to the WS.

    I like to drink, so it can get expensive. But on the days that I am not going to drink until after the game, I bring a sandwich from home, buy a Coke from the Dollar Store across the street, and spend like $30 total for the game.

    Every team has at least one position where they go thru a lot of players. It's impossible for any system to produce prospects at every position.

    No, it did not. And you are not even remotely close. 1-I didn't expect Casas back at the start of the season 2-I didn't expect KC back at any point in the season. I said that if KC could play himself into any MLB role at all, by the end of August, I'd be very happy. 3-I penciled in Mayer as our OD 2B.

    For 2027? I haven't put together my 2027 lineup, so I'd be interested in finding out what it will be. No sense in me doing my own work twice. Or even once, since I apparently already did it.

    I'm not sure anyone was even expecting Casas before about July.

    That kind of goes with being the #2 prospect in baseball. I always thought that Arias would be 'okay'. Good glove, not great, and 15-HR power. But people much smarter than me are saying he is, again, to repeat myself, the #2 prospect in BB. Add to that the fact that we were horrible at SS last year. So of course fans are pinning a lot of hopes on him.
