  1. Bregman + Alonso = 1.6 bWAR Contreras + Durbin = 1.9 bWAR
  2. And again, as I point out everyday, the issue is Story, Anthony, Duran, Crochet & Bello. They are NOT the only issues, but if we had last year's stats from them, we'd have already clinched a playoff spot.
  3. That's my favorite part of the conversation. Marte, Bregman, Bichette, etc., to revert to form. As I do Story, Duran, (Anthony and Crochet as well, if healthy). But to hear fans say, or at least imply, "if only we paid $72M for Bregman's and Bichette's combined 0.2 bWAR, and traded Tolle and Mayer for Marte's 0.2, we'd be doing great", is amusing.
  4. A very fair observation. But Story & Duran have been every bit the problem as Anthony, Mayer and Durbin.
  5. 1-You can justify any player signing on that basis. We should've signed signed Bichette and traded Tolle & Early for Marte, because both guys might have a .900 OPS at Fenway. 2-My understanding was that the biggest issue for Bregman was the no-trade.
  6. Years 4-5-6 count also. And I'd bet serious money that those years are cheaper than they would've been. And the TOMORROW comments can go for every player. Since there is a chance that you won't want Bregman, Alonso or Bichette TOMORROW, then I assume you would want them (or any FA). And the chances of me not wanting a 4.0 bWAR player earning $3.75M is about -0-.
  7. Sure, but my hindsight guesses are incredibly accurate.
  8. "If". I had him last year on a couple of roto teams. He was laughably good, and I thought he had one of the best swings in BB. Then he went 233 ABs with 3 HRs and 107 Ks. I still like him, but I'd still take RA over him.
  9. It's only gone out of style for the RS. The top 10 teams in OBP are averaging 5.00 RPG. The RS? Not so very much. Just for fun, the league average is .320, and we have 3 starters at .250 or under. Out of 176 players that meet the FG minimum PAs, we have the #170, the #172, and the #173. That's almost impossible.
  10. It is also $17M/3 for years 4/5/6, which is very cheap. Kwan is getting $12M for years 4&5, and maybe $10M for year 6. Adolis Garcia got $24M for years 4/5/6. What payroll flexibility? He gets paid $2.25M instead of minimum wage. What were your plans for the extra $1.5M? And again, in what universe do I want to get rid of him?
  11. I wouldn't suggest any particular way for a RS fan to enjoy a game. But for me, I like to see the message the game is sending me. If I had a choice between Bello losing 2-1, or Bello losing 11-9, I want the 2-1 loss. If we have/get Crochet, Suarez, Bello, Tolle, and Early, all pitching well, we will win games even with our current offense, And just as important, adding a slugger in a trade is a lot easier than adding a #3 SP.
  12. It's not just 'because'. It's 'because' he was willing to lock in future years on the cheap, plus the option year. If you don't want to sign good young players because you 'might' not be happy in two years, then I assume you are adamant against signing extremely expensive players that you 'might' be unhappy with in two years. Just to put it another way, I would gladly wager that Ceddanne will have a higher bWAR than Bregman over the next 5 years.
  13. The guys you listed are closers. We only needed a good 7th inning guy.
  14. I was responding to someone saying Duran has had up and down years. He hasn't. He's been between good to very good. He is not as good as Ohtani or Judge, but that's not his problem, and it is not the RS problem. In fact, if you give me 9 Durans, I'm going to be very happy.
  15. I'm talking about Duran, and real prospects. They wouldn't have done so, but if Pitt had offered Chandler, while Houston had offered Paredes, I'd take Chandler every time.
  16. Nobody disagrees with that. But for the price of a good RP, we should've added another one. And I think almost everyone agree with that.
  17. In a world where Mullins just signed for $7M, $6M is microscopic. In what universe should I be thinking about getting rid of a 4.1 bWAR (and rising) player.
  18. In his last three seasons, his OPS+ has has been 121, 132, and 117.
  19. They are 2-8 excluding Bello. But more importantly, they are highly reliant on just 2-3 guys. Chapman's been great, Whitlock inconsistent, and Slaten has been injured. I don't spew when Kelly and Samaniego come in, but they aren't quite what I want in my 7th inning guys. Terrible? No. But we could've easily have done better. The top listed guys by MLBR: Name ERA/FIP Contract Suarez 0.53/1.77 $45M/3 Keller 4.32/3.78 $22M/2 Finnegan 1.40/4.77 $19M/2 Weaver 4.41/3.85 $22M/2 Rogers 1.93/2.74 $37M/3 Soto 1.69/2.41 $8M/1
  20. Agreed. The offense isn't working because Story, Duran and RA haven't shown up yet. The BP doesn't work because we don't have enough key arms. An the BP issue is worse because the fixes don't cost a gazillion $$$ like Bichette, Bregman, etc.
  21. There are a lot of variables in there. In no particular order: In the ALC, I think there is actually greater incentives for teams to improve. Finishing 1st is esier and gives you the HFA for the first round. If you have a guy like Skubal, you are likely the favorite. Settling for a WC could be good or bad. From 2022-24, we had so many fans worried about who we were going to add at the TDL. Why? With little pitching, and most importantly, with no ace, our chances of success were slim. I'd have traded out of our possible playoff slot every year. IRT teams 'settling', many teams have to. If you have a small revenue stream, I think you have to play a 3-year on/3-year off strategy. If you are a $150M payroll cap team, you should spend three years at $100M, and 3 years at $200M.
  22. I mentioned early and often, but don't remember anyone agreeing with me. If you can get a good trade for prospects, and a mediocre trade for current players, always go for the prospects.
  23. Another no-brainer. The idea that there is some conspiracy to create rating publications, in order to hype RS prospects, is a little bizarre. FG currently has us ranked as #13 and the NYY as #25.
  24. Then I must once again ask, if his extended salary is microscopic, and his non-extended salary is microscopic, and he is (at minimum) a really good player, what is the issue?
